Seems like no one has respect for the other races. I mean necrons and eldar are awesome. Same with every race. I mean there is like 5 SM players(which will be including me but it will be my fourth army) ing for every 1 ork player.

EDIT: MODQUISITION TITLE EDIT FOR THE GOOD OF HUMANITY

Yeah your right. How come there is'nt like a starter set for every race. I would greatly appreciate a chaos space marine starter game

Another factor is probably that Space Marines are always one of the first (if not the first) to get updated codices each edition, and they also get about a million variant codices and lists that get released (Dark Angels, Black Templars, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, etc.), before even the basic codices for many of the other races see the light of day. For example, the current Dark Eldar codex is around 10 years old now, at this point.

Because SM are the most marketable of the armies. Also, the title should read, "Why are there so many space marine players?"

What do you mean? Consistently good? Yeah, they are almost always a solid army, and can often compete in the upper tier. Although there are plenty of other armies that do well in tournaments too...

I would disagree with this strongly. Space Marines are currently the most marketed, but they are certainly not the most marketable. All of the other armies could be equally as marketable if GW would put some effort into it. However, they know that Space Marines already sell well, and they seem more interested in just pimping them, rather than trying to bring the other armies up to snuff. It seems to me that marketing all the armies well could be more profitable in the long run, but I'm not an expert in "business," and GW isn't asking.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

This question always gets asked.

There are a lot of reasons for it like:
  • They are in the starter set.

  • They are everyone’s first army.

  • They are cheap.

  • They have a lot of options.

  • They are humans so people can relate to them.

  • For the most part they come (or at least originate) from Earth.

  • They are a very forgiving army on the table top.

  • They are easy to paint.

You've been given the answer, so why argue? Also there's a key to the lower left of the 'A' key you might find useful when writing posts.

Yeah, we know. We like other armies too. The thing is though, if you want there to be other armies besides Space Marines, more people need to play other armies. The biggest thing you can do to help is to start a non-Space Marine army, and encourage your friends and neighbors to play armies other than Space Marines.

This is your mission. Good luck!

It definately helps when a kid walks in with their parent and there is a much larger selection of cheaper marines via starter sets while the other armies just look daunting to begin.

Space Marines are popular because they get supported which means they become popular which means the get support which means they get popular which means they get support which means they get popular which means they get support.....continue ad idioticum.

The only people that dont seem to recognize the self-fullfilling prophesy in that is apparently GW.
Oh, and people saying that Dark Eldar should be squatted because they dont sell to well. Well, duuuh!

    Forever alone

Because Space Marines (especially the Ultramarines) are the best and each of them has killed a million billion Carnifexes in close combat naked with a twig.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I would agree with the above reasons - plus that the fluff revolves around them.

There are billions of Imperial Guard, a whole empire of Tau, uncountable Tyranids and planets full of green skins - however they don't get written about very much in generic manuals, white dwarf or by the black library.

However the couple of mil Space Marines capture the imagination because they have a lot of fluff written about them AND because the basic premise of a tough guy in power armour with a big gun is pretty cool - especially for the target market of 12-15 YOs new to the hobby/game.

There are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Yes Luna, I'm pretty sure he means a twig, as in like, a very small stick.

    Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, aren't there plenty of other cool premises in 40k though? The Tau all wear armor and have big guns, a lot of Eldar warriors wear armor and have big guns. Chaos Marines wear armor and have big guns. There are orks that wear armor and have big guns.

In 40k, almost everything wears armor and has a big gun. I'm not sure what it is about the Space Marine-flavored armor and big guns that makes them so much more special.

Good God Luna! There's a limit of channing I'm sure most people can tollerate, but half-human/half-Carnifexes with huge wangs does not enter into that limit!!

Why are there so many Space Marine players?

    That is the correct question.

All I can give is the reason I play Space Marines - they're cool and I like the models, though I wish they were scaled more appropriately with the rest of GW's 40K line.
