I got this email today:
Hello,
We are currently packing the order you placed with Games Workshop. Unfortunately, the Mines, Bombs and Booby Traps are a limited release item and have sold out before your order processed and are no longer available. We will ship the remainder of your order right away. You will only be charged for the items that are shipped to you. We apologize for the inconvenience, feel free to contact us if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
I placed this pre-order at my local GW store in early June. I wanted to get a set of the little resin bits, and in the past, when I have not pre-ordered items, expecting to pick them up at the local shop on the day of the release, I've gone to the store, only to see them sold out as GW's inventory management system decided to only ship them two copies of a brand new item. So I pre-ordered them. But, since I also pre-ordered some of the blastscape craters, my whole order was delayed until they shipped, and as a result, the item that I pre-ordered and pre-paid for is sold out before I get it.

they're resin right? I'm sure we'll see this set again, forge world will probably start selling it one day for 3x more and take 5x longer to deliver it.

I got screwed in the exact same way. I called and they said that the sold out so fast that even some people who ordered only the resin markers didn't get them but I don't know that I believe that.

Ditto. To make matters worse, I was worried about the delay and contacted GW several days ago. Rather than telling me that they sold out then, the agent assured me all was well and the items would be shipped together when the Blastscape was released. I was foolish in not grabbing the booby-traps at my FLGS when I saw them because I thought "No worries, I'm getting mine."

The new Imperial Guard Codex.
Sucks that GW shafted you on the pre-order. Necros is right though...probably see them again soon. If nothing else someone will put them on eBay.

If you want them, check eBay, as GW is quite adamant in their limited resin releases. The Cities of Death resin markers were extremely rare and once gone, gone. The only resin items in constant production are the urban and ork barricades.

I sent an email, they sent the manual in pdf format...
And later I heard it's standard procedures for the exorcist.
I really don't get it. It's like the most expensive tank, why would it be the only one that's packed like crap?

My history with GW pre-orders is that they mail it out on the day of release. Pre-order is designed to "guarentee" that you get the item, not that you have a chance to get it early. In fact, you usually get the item after everyone else around you has had theirs.

Really? Everytime I've pre-ordered from them( 40K 5th, WHFB 7th, Apocalypse, Several of the Army boxes), I've gotten the product at least a full week before they were in stores.

Lol, I saw loads of these sets in my GW the other day. If I'd known how much in demand they were going to be, I'd have bought a load, waited a few months and cleaned up on ebay.
IMHO I don't think there's anything in there that can't be modelled from the bitz box.

I have the same experience as breotan.
I preordered the alot of 40K stuff once and my LFGS had everything so I bought it there. I called GW to cancel my order. They said stuff was already sent.
I send stuff back. it gets lost. It finally gets sent back to me. I send it back again. It gets sent back to me. I call them and demand that they have UPS pick it up and track their own damned package. I am given " GW Bucks" (Magical dollars only useful in some fabled land where GW dwells) and use those imaginary dollars to try and order something more useful. What did they send? They sent me someone else's order.
How long did this whole debacle take? Its still being resolved, but it has been almost 19 months since the start of all of this. I am tempted to contact the BBB among other consumer advocacy groups. But I know that would be dumb because we all know that GW does what GW wants to. *shrug* Nothing would come of it.

That's not really the point though. Yes, I'm sure that with a little time, we could make counters. I'm sure that with any sort of effort at all, I could track down these things on eBay, or trade for them, or locate a store that has some in stock...
None of that is the issue here.
I, and several others here, pre-ordered and pre-paid for a limited-edition item. We were told that this would ensure that we'd get it. We gave them money over a month before the release date. And, when it came time for them to make good on their end of the deal, they failed. They said they already distributed the items that we had already paid for to other people, and when it was time to fulfill our orders, there was nothing left for us.

Someone at GW Customer Service was telling me about this problem earlier this week. Their inventory system does not set aside an item when it's pre-ordered, so a lot of people were calling customer service the other day to complain about this exact problem. They had pre-ordered Mines, Bombs & Booby Traps with items that were not released till 2 weeks later and so did not get the Mines set in spite of pre-ordering and paying for it.
As a side note, I was able to get a few extras of the Mines, Bombs & Booby Traps set. I not only pre-ordered the set, luckily without anything else in my order to delay it, but the set did not sell out right away at the local GW stores and I picked up a few extras. I will be selling one set of Mines, Bombs and Booby Traps on eBay starting at 6:30 PM EDT (USA) on Sunday night, July 19. If it does well I will sell another starting the following Sunday.

Had a problem with my pre-order when COD came out. They ran out of the mat before my order got filled. GW bent over backwards for me. I did end up getting one they were using to game on in the warehouse, but to make up for it they sent me a new building kit and to boot credited my account back for the cost of the mat. I got it all at no charge.

Do it Bookwrack.. For Dakka.
Sorry to hear about all of this. The only thing I ever ordered from GW was the new(at the time) 4th edition Hive Tyrant, and I had no such trouble. Sounds like they won't set aside for preorders, but will set aside to send out to their stores? Sounds like a priority issue. You'd think that after such huge demand they'd at least do another run.

The rest is stuff, and I can't imagine anything mattering more than a group e-mail simply demanding your stuff OR a HUGE anti- GW war vs DakkaDakka...
The latter will not be the case so I can't imagine what you are hoping to accomplish. Deal fail = no stuff = you get money back = why complain = just ask for free shipping next order = or a free blister mini (12US$ or less... ahem GW).
Done, WHEEEEeeeeeeeee!!!
Railguns wrote:Yeah I know, it just seems so out of place for a company with such a good track record, as far as customer service goes, to suddenly have these sorts of problems.
As far as I am concerned this has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with CS, it is an issue with their inventory system and a serious one at that.
