World War II with mechs? Sounds like an interesting premise. Good to see some realistic walkers for once as well instead of goofy power-armoured suits.

But where are the zombies?

I hope Hitler has a mech-suit in this, like in Castle Wolfenstein. Man, that was awesome.

Wh-what? Screw these guys, I could make my own mechs for a few dollars.

They're all resin models so you should compare their prices to Forgeworld instead of GW.

I'm pretty sure using resin isn't what makes Forgeworld so crazy expensive. Other companies make things out of resin (Battlefront's tanks and vehicles for example) and the prices aren't nearly as high as Forgeworld. And yes, this thread needs fixed pics.

They're also 1/35 scale, so you shouldn't compare them with gaming pieces at all.

They aren't all resin:

This one is though:

But as someone else pointed out, they are models, not gaming pieces.

I might be wrong about the scale, but these are about 12-15" tall right? The mechs that is.
If so, they might make cool bases for an Ad-Mech, Knight Titan sort of thing. 40-50$ isn't so bad for that.

DUST TACTICS has the taint of Vaporware about it at this point.

Their website isn't update too frequently, and recent comments there have said it is a "no go" for 2009.

Originally, it was based off of AT-43, I think.

Also, it might be one of the reasons FFG 'dropped' AT-43, as they were going to distribute DUST TACTICS, I think.

DUNCAN IDAHO might have more info on it...

Purportedly it goes like this...

DUST is what AT-43 was originally supposed to be. "Alternate Timeline '43." But Dust is an IP of Parente, and Rackham didn't want to pay licensing fees, so they took the basic architecture and turned it into "After Trauma 43." Invented the Therians to fill the gaps.

Allies = U.N.A., Red Blok = Sino-Soviets, and even the Karmans were based off of some ape intelligence experiments the DUST-Nazis did in the fluff. Word has it that the next AT-43 faction to ostensibly get produced, ONI, is basically working off of the DUST-Nazi aesthetics.

I've seen pics of DUST Tactics minis, just painted prototypes ostensibly, and they look like AT-43 prepaints. Some in the AT-43 crowd would be pleased if the game never sees the light of day as they're worried about competition with AT-43 for the prepaint audience's attention. FFG would be producing and distributing DUST Tactics, so native in-nation support might also give it a leg up.

However, as stated, it feels decidedly like Vaporware at this point so I don't think anyone has anything to worry about.

These are the same scale as regular WWII model kits, so that you can have realistic "Alternate Reality" kits to set next to your actual real stuff if you wanted to do an Alternate WWII diorama or display, or whatever else modellers do with their stuff.

Thanks for the history lesson/update.

I knew I had got some of the details wrong...

Personally, as a big fan of Weird War II games, I'd love to see this eventually make it to store shelves.

Actually, he might not be the best source of Rackham info. Just throwing that out there.

Additionally, there is nothing I can find on the interwebs besides his post to suggest that Rackham was initially funding DUST and then did not want to pay a licensing fee. They are both based off of a weird-WWII-style background, and Parente has done lots of artwork for Rackham, but beyond that, there's nothing.

Neat big-scale stuff though.

Irony: that information originally came from a Rackham superfan named Foxhound and a post on the AT-43 English forums, and confirmed by Rackham Sentinel Blokhead who is extraordinarily close to Rackham Entertainment and does work for them.

http://en-forum.at-43.com/viewtopic.php?t=6488

There's some good information on the relationship between the two games here, as well:

http://en-forum.at-43.com/viewtopic.php?t=4142&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

It was in that thread where I read someone saying the bit about the licensing fee issue, so that may be entirely inaccurate...but I'm not writing a history paper here. Alpharius asked for some information and I gave him what I had.

Scotty, please keep your issues with me in the appropriate venues for the love of propriety...I know you're a Rackham Sentinel and I am Satan to you, but you know what the word "purportedly" means, yes? It's a synonym for "supposedly," which acknowledges the potential for inaccuracy. There's no need for you to correct me when I already acknowledged that I might not be entirely accurate.

No offense to anyone, but they would have to be pretty thick to not see the glaring design similarities here...and who said anything about Rackham funding DUST? They were developing the DUST game, then changed it to the sci-fi game. Even if the licensing fees issue isn't accurate, the report that they decided not to go with another Wierd War II game considering the recent glut of them would also make sense.

FFG is also quoted in that second thread as confirming that DUST Tactics, the miniatures game based on the board game, or rather taking place in the same universe, is starting off with the AT-43 ruleset and being tweaked to get the gaming results they want. If that doesn't speak to the strong relationship between the two games I don't know what does.

elladan has an excellent write-up of the 1/48th scale version of one of these

http://www.elladan.de/031%20Luther/031.htm

They look amazing but I think the 1/35 would be too big for most gaming applications....but then again

I am just trying to get my post count up so that people won't think I am a GW sock puppet.
