Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.

Dark Heresy and probably the upcoming Rogue Trader RPG. Fantasy Flight has taken that franchise beyond my expectations.

I'm including Rogue trader in Dark Heresy. Same rules.

While I love DoW/DoW II and all scenarios in the the rulebook game as well as it's expansions, I prefer custom missions above all, just because they require more creativity, terrain or boards can be specifically tailored to them, stories can come out of or go into them, You have a chance to play an army's story out, you can try out some house rules that your gaming group came up with, and so on...

Again I think it's the level of creativity that makes custom scenarios appealing to me. That and it gives me a chance to use my 'Taco Hut' building. Hey, Taco wars are more common than you might think!

And what about Battlefleet Gothic?
I really like both Necromunda and Battlefleet Gothic but no one plays them anymore.

Otherwise Dawn of War series are great, playing Dawn of War II time to time.

I voted custom missions because about half the games I play are just that, custom, and I enjoy them much much more

Anyone who votes Firewarrior has to both post that they did and explain why.

I vote Necromunda... or would if I could.

I liked Fire Warrior because it was a 40K FPS. It wasn't a great game, but I found that it delivered what I was after, which was a fun niche game for a rainy day or an evening alone.

However, DoW II is my favourite game, because it actually focuses on the best of the best; Space Marines are actually as tough and strong as they should be.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I'll 2nd Fire Warrior.

It was a FPS (I loathe RTS) with a 40k skinjob.
It wasn't brilliant, but it was pretty (and it showed an upstart race getting some back on the tin-plated little fanatics with delusions of adequacy).

My favourite miniatures game set in the 40k universe is necromunda.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

How come everybody seems to love GW's niche games (Necromunda, Blood Bowl) but the company fails to support them?

I too liked Fire Warrior. I remember the first time I had to take on a single space marine...it was more than challenging, it was straight-up tough...just as it should be.

Necromunda.

And GW doesn't support them because it's profit is driven by minature sales and the 'specialist games' dont' need all that many.

Yep, the niche games don't sell lots of models. Heck, five large Necromunda gangs equals what, one IG platoon? And no tanks, dreads, etc etc. Plus there aren't any poster boys (Marines).

Battlefleet Gothic even though it isnt up there, prehaps the most complete rules set GW has ever produced.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

What about Squad Command? I really enjoy that, even though you're stuck as Ultramarines. I voted DoW in its absence, as I like the Army painter as a scheme planning thing, and I enjoy RTS.
