No, it's not Monty Python (Though if that's what floats you're boat...)
Seriously though, what is your take to human beings, or even YOUR purpose in life. In existence?
Do we have one? Is there a purpose at all?
It's a deep question I know, pleez take some time to think about your answer.
I look forward to your posts.

Even though I am not overly deep I will attempt to answer it as best I can.
I do belive in all honesty that we are here for no great purpose. We are because we can be and do belive Monty Python's summation was about correct,we are here to eat a good meal, read a nice book and meet some special people before we pass on to a great unknown beyond.Very simply we are here to live before we pass from our mortal realm to the next.(please forgive me if this is not at all helpful,I attempted to give you my point of view).

I am both a very devout Christian and an academic at heart. That being said, Dakka has reminded me why I don't argue about religion on these types of mediums because they are ineffective, and with the subtle nuances of the English language that are lost in printed form, many well intentioned posts can quickly devolve into anger and misunderstanding. But I will make one suggestion, any person, religious or not, would do themselves a service by reading from the vast cornucopia of the world's philosophers. Here is a list to name just a few wonderful reads: Aristotle, Plato, Cicero, Seneca, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Blaise Pascal, David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche, Montesquieu, G.K. Chesterton, Soren Kirkegaard, Schiller, Goethe, Kant, Schopenhauer and even C.S. Lewis. I realize that there are quite a few Christian thinkers on here, but I assure you all that this is hardly the measure of my library, I just found these thinkers to be extremely helpful in developing my current world/life view, and will continue to use them as my mind continues to grow and change.

An old friend once TOLD me that the meaning of life was sex, and on a metaphorical level he is indisputably rational in his conclusion.
Hahahaha, that is so true, especially to those who are for some reason obsessed with the procreation and ensured survival of the human race. Truly entertaining...

I do not know what our purpose here is as a race. But I know that my purpose as an individual here and now is to experience it and make the best of it. Not helpful advice, as it kind of applies to me buuuuuut...
I like the squirrel one...

Why does there have to a meaning? Can't it just be a bunch of stuff that's happened?
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
As a non-believer I have say I don't see there as being any meaning to life. We are an animal species that has self awareness, that is the only difference between us and the other life forms on this planet.
That said, there is no reason why we shouldn't make the most of our time on this planet.
What I do find fascinating is that this planet has been recycling ever since it's creation. Everything breaks down to atoms and is reused. Could this be the reason we believe in reincarnation?
Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
I'm not sure what my purpose is, probably won't until I'm on my death bed, or holding my guts in as a result of an explosion. Even then I my not know what it was.
Just think of life as a mystery box, who knows what you're gonna get.

An imprint which is destined to be forgotten, that's bs. Every answer so far has been bs.
Granted im in somewhat of a morbid atitude right now but it's still all bs.

Thats all anything is though, its all bs. Always has been always will be, everything get forgotten in time. There doesn't seem to be a point to life, sooner people get used to that the better, or maybe it'll be worse who gives a gak.

Perhaps that can be good though. No matter the travesties and wrongs committed, time heals all. We are here to live for the MOMENT. That is all we can say for sure. And we should make the best of it while we can.

Damn dude, chill the hell out. If you feel that way, say it (as you have like 4 times now) and leave the thread. Don't harass people and act like you know more than they do, especially on something that is based on pure opinion and perspective.
