2 Purposes in life..
- Protect the brain.
- Produce children
Everything in he human is designed to produce those 2 end points.
I've done both, and plan on attempting the second many times more...

If you don't mind at to much good Sir, might I substitute my brandy for a Scotch? Brandy leaves me feeling ill.

I might be wrong though. I still haven't figured out the secret of steel.
I thought that is what is best in life. I do not know the riddle of steel either... Some people think that it is weak and that flesh is the true power.

I had the answer to this at one time, on page 7421 of the Haynes Manual for Mk5 Humans £14.99 at Halfords. It said something about being needed for the service of a higher race or something, it also mentioned something about apes. Sigh, where the hell did I put that thing, pages 4 to 7420 were an eye opener, explained everything you needed to know on understanding the female mind.

In truth, my beliefs are quite depressing, nothing beyond death, no god, no meaning to anything we do, blah blah blah, I won't bore you with it. Mainly because I don't want to get peoples backs up

To eleborate more, on my post, I feel that to have a meaning in life, requires you to believe in a God or the idea that the human race was created and therefore had a purpose. The meaning of life for a computer is to help humans do things more quickly and better. The meaning of life for a toaster is to heat bread. I know they aren't living things, but they were all created and have a reason.
Myself, from everything I have seen in the world I do not believe in a God or higher power, and therefore do not believe that we were created and therefore we do not have a purpose, or meaning to exist. Others believe in a higher power and believe in something more, thats fine by me, I respect your ideals even though I don't agree. Neither of us has the proof to validate ourselves

The meaning of life is whatever you define it as.
I define it as living as a good Christian for the rest of my life and doing what I can to make the world a better place for humanity. The latter part should be everyone's goal, IMO.
|
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Well, my comment would be that the fluke happened in this instance. You can throw the odds out the window...they don't matter anymore.
So knowing you just beat the long odds, what are you going to do with your fluke opportunity?

As we face a much larger threat than even the dreaded 'climate change' I find it funny (and sad) that quite a few people pick sex/producing children as a meaning of life.
For me, we are NOT animals and to act on all of our primary instincts (eat and procreate) as the end-all-be-all of human existence is to sell ourselves, as humans, very short. We, above all other lifeforms on this planet, have the ability to CHOOSE our destiny as a race (the Human Race). Within that choice becomes the meaning of our lives. The meaning is a byproduct of our choices.
I also feel as the real problem of our race looms (i.e. overpopulation) in the next 50-100 years. We are at a crossroads, an end of human adolescence, regarding how we deal and solve those problems. This will define the meaning.
Sadly, I'm not particularly optimistic right now. Look at the US as a microcosm (and this probably extends to other major countries as well) we are STILL mired in cross party politics and 'what's in it for me' attitudes. Is that their meaning?
I won't go on with any more detail as my very defined opinions will start to surface.
Sure you can call it BS if you want, or even lofty minded clap-trap. Maybe I read too much Sci-fi as a kid, but this is what I feel.

I believe that we as a species should;
A) Strive to outdo our previous accomplishments, i.e. better ourselves, our community. etc.
B) Also strive to improve ourselves, our community, etc.
C) Do something with said improvements, and accomplishments.
That's my 2 cents though. I've probably watched/read way too much Sci-Fi over the years.

I certainly agree with cheese and sqir666. Humans should always try to better themselves and soceity in general. (Otherwise you're just a waste of space, leeching off soceity and people..)

Dagnabbit! I thought it was "riddle" and not "secret" when I was writing that. By the way, I'm looking for a standard with two snakes facing each other that are the same. Anyone seen it?

Which part? The fact that it is generally wrong or the fact that life is a fluke of nature even though nature produces life on a regular basis and living breathing things are a huge part of nature?
