Subject: Death Guard vs Thousand Sons 2000 points. Old school Report + Time Lapse
Aloha and welcome to the next installment of battles in the back of Kalihi Valley.
Dave has again been ever so gracious as to set up his camera on time lapse for this battle. He has also included some of the images from this report for context.
The Mission:
Seize Ground
The Deployment:
Dawn of War
My Thousand Sons
Sorcerer Lord on Disc of Tzeentch with Botl of Change and Mark of Tzeentch
Daemon Prince with Wings, Warp time, Wind of Chaos, and Mark of Tzeentch
9 Terminators with 2 Combi-Flamers, one Combi-Melta, one Reaper Canon, 3 Power Fists, one Chain fist and an Icon of Tzeentch
2x Squads of 5 Thousand Sons with Sorcerer with Wind of Chaos in a Rhino
Squad of 9 Thousand sons with Sorcerer with Bolt of Change
Squad of 8 (Joined by Sorcerer Lord) Raptors with two Melta guns, Champion with Powerfist and an Icon of Tzeentch
2x Predators with Twin-Las Canon turrets only and Possessed
John’s Death Guard
2 Daemon Princes with Wings, Warp time and Mark of Nurgle
3x Squads of 10 Plague Marines with 2 Flamers, 2 Meltas and 2 Plasmaguns respectively, and a Champion with a Powerfist in each. One Unit in Rhino
2x Land Raders with Havoc Launchers and Possesed. Each carry a Plauge Marine unit.
A predetor wth all Las Canons and Havoc Launchers and Possesed
First Turn
John wins the roll and I fail to Sieze Initiatve. John deploys in the central building while his predator immobilizes my Rhino.
I leap forward with my Daemon Prince and Use Warptime and Wind of Chaos to nearly wipe out His Plague Marines in the central building whil my two Predators only graze his Predator and one of his Land Raiders. In combat I roll pitifully despite Warptime and The Death Guard unit inflicts 3 wounds, two from basic attacks.
Second Turn
John advances forward and uses his Havoc Launchers to good effect. Against Thousand Sons they do more damage then the Las Canons.
Having finished off the Plague Marines my Daemon Prince charges the two Land raiders which moved at cruising speed and due to Warp time I got three hits, but only managed to immobilize one and destroy a Las Canon on the other. As it would be for the rest of the game, John’s many Possessed upgrades pay off.
Third Turn
John jumps my thrice wounded Daemon Prince with his two healthy (or Unhealthy) Daemon Princes and finish him off. Meanwhile his one mobile land raider advances while every available weapon opens up on my 9 strong Thousand Son unit.
My Terminators arrive and scatter back a few inches while my Raptors come around the corner and attempt to take out a Land Raider with the Melta Guns and the Sorcerer Lord’s Bolt of Change, all to no avail.
Fourth Turn
John unloads all his remaining Plague Marines and they open fire on my Raptors and Terminators then the two Daemon Princes charge the Terminators. The Terminators fail to wound due to terrible rolls and pass their leadership.
Two units of Thousand Son retaliate, with one taking down 4 Plague Marines with a Wind of Chaos attack first, as my Raptors join the frey. The two Daemon Princes slowly chew away at the Terminators who are many times more lucky with their 4+ invulnerable saves then their rolls to hit. Meanwhile My last Unit On the other side of the central building moves to take two objectives.
Fifth Turn
In John’s turn the mass melee in the middle continues while the games arguably two toughest units slowly take each other apart. The two Daemon Princes Grow increasingly frustrated by the unbreakable Terminators. Even with the Daemon Princes dual warp time, the Terminators 4+ saves are incredible. John’s predator, like my own 2, are not doing more then grazing each other.
And with the Daemon Princes still held in combat by one (ha ha) Terminator, the rest of the plague marines are now out numbered 2 to one. If the game continues one more turn his barely-scratched Daemon Princes are going to turn this game around.
And the roll…..
The Game Ends with me holding two objectives while John has only contested one. John Pushed ahead onto one area of the table but had he spread out more he could have grabed or contested more. My Terminators did very little in the way of offense and but made up for it on the defense. That was a killer game and John and I had an absolute blast!
And now for the Time Lapse (Or Warp Time)…

Hey glad you liked it! We have not worked out all the bugs yet. This time I had a crappy camera and I did not take overhead shots at the top of every turn. Please, if folks have any suggestions, let 'em fly

You just couldn't handle the truth. God knows why anyone would want that cookie anyway. I can only imagine what foul demons possess such a thing as to make it stand on its side like that. I prefer my cookies horizontal and without eternal damnation. - Ridcully
Either that or take a 4+ cover save from all of GW's red tape blocking LoS to the way to play it. - Kitzz

I left a couple things out and made some mistakes in the video, probably since I was painting half the time you guys were playing
Like...leaving out who won, and calling raptors havocs, well its all chaos anyway.
It was an epic battle though, John's list got third overall at a recent tournament and is super tough as per the fluff. So Sol did an awesome job of getting the win.
I was thinking of actually using a video camera next time, which would mean ambient sound, smiling faces, and the rolling dice...
BURN YOU HERETICS!!

Great report but I have one question: Why were you rolling your 4+ invulnerable saves on the terminators against those 2 DP's? You could have rolled your 2+ armor save I believe.

Wow...I've halved myself for so long. I should probably re-read my rule book, but not at 11:30 every night this time. Thanks a bunch Lord-Loss.
I also would like to know how you made that Long haired DP with the jetpack It's such a sweet model.

Hey Panic! Yep all those floor pieces are from that kit. Please copy all you want
John did an amazing job on that prince. I believe it is a kit-bash but the hair he made out of green-stuff. He said he did a sketch of the model before he staarted it, which I might add, is very helpful. Once you start converting it is easy to get carried away

thanks guys! for those who asked the DP's head is from the fantasy sorc. of nurgle with lots of rolls of greenstuff, the gut too is gs. a few gut-shaped clumps with a thin bit of gs stretched over and worked a bit. the thinner the better with the gs, you want the guts to show! legs from old nid warrior, csm torso, jumppack from old stormboy, bunch of other misc. bitz.
s1gns these guys are mostly rotting flesh/bleached bone/komando khaki and chestnut ink. chestnut is oop now but i hear sephia is a close match and any dark brown wash would do. I experimented a lot with the mixing since the colors are all in the same range its not a big deal if there's a bit of variation, they are plague marines after all
