This is basically a poll to find out what my fellow dakkaites think is the most irritating 40K army. By irritating, I mean, in your opinion, worst background, Too much love from the designers (*cough* Orks and Sm *cough*), annoying players, too many powerbuilds etc. Please don't start a flame war, i'm just curious, thats all.

P.S-I picked Eldar, in case your interested.

I picked orks, only because when an ork player is taking his turn I'm always thinking "TAKE FOREVER!"

I have never seen a Tyranid army defeated. They drive me insane. It might also be some psychological transferrence based on the fact that all the Tyranid players I have met are five foot tall peckers with ears. (Quick note: I am sure that there are nice, respectable Tyranid players somewhere. But the only three I know need to be dealt with behind a woodshed) Also...I just dont see the point. Its a bug. It doesnt even think. Where's the fun?

5th Ed, I'd have to say Nids'. I used to win often enough against them before. Even tabled him once. I've only beaten my buddy's Nids' 3 times since 5th Ed started. And each time it was down to an epic last man/last squad with a horseshoe up his/their arse(s)

In 4th ed I would've said Necrons with their damn teleporting and ressurrection Orb.

Nids are pretty underpowered now. They rely on a few good units, and with all the mech lists they get hit pretty hard with their weak AT.

I voted IG, as they are the most boring army to play against. Run at them, wait an hour for their shooting, get to them, slaughter them easily with whats left, and thats it. Yawn.

Can't they still do that?

Looks like we've got (er, had) a five way tie (between SM, IG, Necron, Game Devs, and Nids), lots of developer hate

I chose Necrons just because they're so boring to fight. There's no differentiation in squads and they just take forever to die. I don't mind MEQ armies, since there's usually a lot of variety in them. Even if it's just tac marines, then marines with jump packs, then marines with heavy weapons, there's something. I don't mind armies with a lot of similar units like 'Nid hordes, since it's fun to kill hordes of cheap crap. Necrons took the worst of both worlds and put them together. An army of identical troops with identical guns who take forever to die. Just makes every game a long, drawn out war of attrition. Also, their entire army can be crippled by one terminator squad. That just makes things far too easy.

I can recall only one fight I had against Necrons that I thoroughly enjoyed all the way through. However, even in that game, one squad of Wolf Guard Terminators just marched around and killed everything. In a 2500 point game with everything in the army firing at my Termies, I only lost one man. I know this sounds a little contradicting with my point of them being hard to kill, but they just managed to suck the fun out of any situation by being too hardy or too weedy, with no middleground.

Dear god I'm ranting. I'll shut up now and let the poll do the talking.

Ach, I voted for Eldar as the most annoying army to play against before reading what you qualified "annoying" as.

Until a year ago (or is it now two?), Orks had no more love than Dark Eldar. How do they get too much developer love? They got an update after 10 years with the worst codex in the game; clearly, they are shown as much love as the MEQ armies! I hate the new Orks as much as the next person who keeps losing to them, but I certainly do not resent them for getting an update --- they deserved that!

Marines are the only army who gets too much love; everyone else gets long periods of being completely ignored. Eldar, Necron and Dark Eldar are all tied for `worst fluff' in my book. Eldar players are the most annoying (the next time an opponent complains about Bright Lances or Falcons being under-powered, I am throwing a Penitent Engine at him!). Power-builds are merely a matter of the times, and they come-and-go so quickly that it is not worth getting upset about them.

At the end of the day, I do not find any army that bad. I wish more armies got more love, I wish Eldar players would realise they are not doomed as the fluff tells them, and I just do not have to collect armies with boring fluff. I wish Ork players used lists I could beat once in a while, but that does not mean I hate Orks. I blame the designers. Every army could be awesome if they just put in the effort. If they did that, I would collect all armies. I would be poor, but they would turn a profit. Odd they have never realised this.

Worst background would have to be Dark Eldar. Besides it not really existing, they feel tacked on to every campaign run by GW and its always "There going raiding for slaves"

Necrons, hands down.

They're a fickin' rules nightmare that just pisses everybody off. They're a mono-build that's just no fun to play against. It's like GW distilled they very essence of "souless" into a Codex.

For me it was a toss up between Tau and IG. I hate the fluff for both and they are boring to play against.

More than the Tau? Because of the Tau every campaign has to be set in the Eastern Fringe so that their tiny insignificant empire can take part (Medusa), or, they're given their own meaningless campaign as a side-show to the main event (EoT).

At least the Dark Eldar can realistically be everywhere. The Tau are always going to be that tiny spec on the galactic map.

Sorry, I wasn't clear by what I meant what I meant when I said Orks get to much love. I din't mean they constantly get updates (Although the plastic battlewagon goes on my list of GW'S biggest -up's), I meant that it seems everyone in the studio seems to now have 'gone green'. Every white dwarf, there seems to be something about orks. The website is filled with Ork articles. Kids are encourage to start either SM's or Orks, purely because they were in the starter set (Which I hold a personal hatred for). It just drives me MAD!!!!

Sorry, rant over now

I think you may have undermined your poll by putting in the part about the designers. Most people have a gripe about something the designers have done with their army or 5th edition rules or the way they handle their pricing or whatever else. I think just saying "none of the above" or "I like all of them" and/or " I hate them all equally" would have been better to avoid people choosing the last because they dislike the designers in some way.

Personally, I get annoyed based on troop choice rather than army choice. People that mass lots of the same unit are the ones that gain my ire rather than one particular army.

Tau and Guard; I got so bored in one Tau players shooting phase I wandered off and let him deal with it; I know it's rude but I wasn't in the right mind at the time...

In a world gone mad, who is left to fight for truth, justice and all that gets you smashed for under a fiver....

Yes, the Tau would be stuck in there little portion of the universe. But in the background the Tau have gone from marked for extinction, to pushing back the Daemoncules Gulf crusade. They are an expanding force in a universe where everyone else is stuck or in decline. I was impressed the Dark Eldar have been mentioned in Planet Strike, stealing slaves. It shows gamesworkshop is still thinking about them a little.

That's a good point. It wouldn't surprise me if the Tau discovering warp travel is eventually going to be in the cards.
