Subject: Krootopalypse, Gryphonne and Ryza! [UPDATE: Deathstrike Missile Launcher]

Good day, and welcome to my thread. Fritos, Tab, and Mountain Dew are available on the sidebar to the right.
My name is Brian, and I'm going to unspool my armies as they come out of boxes and/or I do work upon them.
We'll start with the army that will have my slowest progression, a Kroot Mercenary group. This army requires heavy conversions and/or expensive Forge World product, so it is definitely an 'as available' project.
20 Kroot Carnivores, with a shaper. As you can see, someday I will find a Praetorian Opponent, and we will make glorious pictures together.
The first batch of conversions, a unit of 10 Kroot Hunters with sniper rifles.
I'm working on better pictures of these lads, the flash really wipes out my washes.
What's next? Who knows! Depends on what box I find first!
Thanks for looking,
--Brian

Right! Front and center!
I have tamed the wild basement lands, and have started to unpack the various armies I own. Having not played for a long while, what I have is the start of...well, a lot of different armies. I'd get bored of painting one army, and work on another.
So, here, you can see about 95% of what I own (the rest are all 'on sprue'). The makings of Space Marine, Kroot, Necron, and Imperial Guard armies. I also have a pile of Orks that I'm going to sell off/trade.
A smattering of leftover Space Wolf and Blood Angels stuff can be seen as well with a keen eye.

So, working on the Guard, slowly, as job searching is my primary focus, right now.
Here's a few wips of some Techpreists and servitors I bashed together out of the Techmarine with Harness box, and a leftover Plasma Cannon.
Side note: hella flash on the metal Techmarine bitz (mostly airhole 'pins'), had to do a LOT of cleanup. Is this the norm nowadays?
And some silly, a bashed up Sly, in case I want to use the lad:
More coming as I put them together, I picked up some more Cadians and some Catachans for an Imperial Navy Penal Squad.

Okay! Having located a game store reasonably nearby, that does things on a day other than Thursday, I'm picking up where I left off!
Nothing like a tournament to get one off of one's arse, and back into painting and modelling. So! A modified 'Patrol Clash' is coming up. 555 points, and you can violate a rule if you bring at least 2 troops, whose total exceed 227 points, combined. However, you cannot count their dedicated transports.
Hey, fine by me.
I expect to see a lot of Valkyries/Vendettas from Guard Players, maybe some Main Battle Tanks, an Eldar skimmer, etc. etc.
I, of course, being the type that enjoys playing in Tournaments with WTF armies, will be using the Rule Exception to bring a 12/12/10 vehicle.
Specifically, a Deathstrike Missile Launcher.
I feel that if I can launch even ONE missile, I will have achieved a Moral Victory over the heretics, and I shall savor a fine post-event snort of high-end scotch.
Here's the background fluff, and the army summary. Go ahead and laugh, but don't make any "That's not an effective army" comments.
I know.
Pictures, commentary, as I make progress. I have, roughly, 2 weeks.
---
Lieutenant Kensington was not a happy man. Generally dour of spirit, today was a veritable downpour of suck. It was raining. It was muddy. Several of his squads and two of his Chimeras had been detached from his Platoon, making him sorely understrength. And, for some reason, this planet's atmosphere made him want to sneeze. A lot. He tried to keep his attention focused on the Company Commander as the Techpriest annoited the various points on the massive Deathstrike Launcher. With any luck, when the balloon went up, the Machine Spirit would take to its task. His attention drifted as he thanked the High Lords of Terra that his Field Kitchen was not taken from his platoon as well.
Plans for a co-ordinated strike upon the enemy-held Citadel had been hastily thrown together. Deathstrike Launchers from multiple engineering garrisons had been moved individually, quietly. Augurs were consulted, and the Emperor's Tarot was read. Dummy raids to distract the enemy away from the true plan were conducted. Anything to get the launchers in place. Several had been lost, one simply due to gross navigational error. Each launcher was escorted by small detachments, in order to maximize their chances of not being discovered. The enemy seemed unaware, and it was nearing time to strike.
Sergeant Raines, one of the last men to leave Ryza, veteran of a dozen conflicts, squinted off into the distance. He waved up one of his men, a sniper named Fletch. The two men consulted, one with his panoculars, the other through his scoped rifle. With a nod, Fletch trotted back to the firebase, to inform the El-Tee that the enemy wasn't as unaware as Command had hoped.

Well! Getting close to the weekend, and a bit of misadventure. But, I finally got all the pieces parts, and now I can proceed.
So, here are some shots of the construction of my Deathstrike. I wanted to be a little more like the original Mk.1 crawler, but use Chimera parts. I think, if I did it again, I'd go ahead and use tank parts. But, I'm happy with these results.
I am combining, basically, a SCUD launcher with a Chimera. In this case, the original Soviet launcher vehicle. I was disappointed in that the model was a two-piece main hull, but I was able to razor saw my way into a happy result. Also, the hull is exactly the same width as the Chimera's hull. A fortunate coincidence that I exploited.
Launcher top, Chimera tracks:
Flipped over. Room for internal details, so I built a quicky engine and crew compartment from a Sentinel pilot and the Launcher's seats.
Heavy Bolter mount. I wonder how often it will actually fire. Maybe it'll make the crew feel better.
Crew compartment, with blocked out window and shuttered window. Pondering some crew access ladders here.
Rear view. Laugh at my horrific plasticard skillz!
Now with launch rails!
Left Side:
Right Side:
T-Minus Five Minutes, And Counting...
I may cut down the missile a bit, and add more fins. MORE. FINS. And, of course, much detailing to be added. And, probably, rivets.
Thanks for watching.

Nice work! The joins are really well done, and the mass of that thing is freaking HUGE. For Apoc games this would definitely rate the same as a titan Vortex Missile, if your opponents would consider alternative rules.
Don't think you'll be getting cover from much, though...

Nice! What scale is that Scud kit in? I may want to take a crack at something like this after I´m done with my current project...
Excellent job on meshing the Chimera and the Scud launcher too.
Oh, and I fully support the adding of more fins. The Emperor guides us by the fins!

The launcher model is in my go-to scale for Imperial Guard conversion bits, 1:48. This is also "O Scale" in model railroading.
Here's a shot of the launcher next to a Chimera:
And here's a round-the-hull gallery, now that the 'strike has been "Imperialized".
