Now, when I first got the game, before looking at the achievements, I played the game through and completed it on Heroic (without playing normal or easy) and so did not get the Heroic completion achievement, but the normal one instead.

I have since completed the game on Heroic again trying to get the Heroic completion acheivement but the game decided that I was not worthy, so I did not get it.

I am somewhat reluctant to play though on legendary if I will not get the legendary award.

My question really is this: Is there any way of getting the heroic award without playing through on legendary, and if not (and I have to play through on legendary), is there any way then to get the legendary award afterwards (or do you get awarded it as well?)?

You are supposed to get the Heroic achievement for beating the game of Heroic. You either accidentally switched difficulties at some point or your game, or box, is slowed. If on any level during the campaign, you switch to Normal, the best achievement you can achieve is the Normal completion. I suggest playing Legendary with a friend (because it is a little tough) and make sure not to switch difficulty at all. You should get both the Heroic and Legendary achievements.

Make sure you watch the intro cutscene as well, as I believe that may be factored into it.

If you complete the game on heroic before you complete it on normal, I am sure you only get the normal award, because I am certain that I did not change the difficulty, and I watched all the cut scenes as it was my first time through the game.

Ah well, I will play though it once again on Heroic and see what happens.

Although, unless you have made a lot of really great forge maps which have been accepted by bungie, or done something that is otherwise great, you can't have the recon armour yet...

OK, just a few points here:

Have you completed all missions on solo or co-op? you cannot mix and match, you have have finished every mission on the same difficulty either in solo or co-op (this generally is what people forget)
Edit: also, did you finish a mission at a time? if you have loaded up a mission from a rally point instead of the start you wont count as compleating it.


As for the person saying they have every achievement and flaming recon - you full of gak.
For a start, you cannot get every one yet (Need ODST released for the 3 new maps)
And its also only bungie members who get flaming recon.

I've completed every mission in one go from the start with no loads etc the first day(s) I got it on Heroic and only unlocked the normal award.

All the levels have been done subsequently in either coop or single play in random orders at heroic difficulty.

I think that I will just play though the game again next time my GF is out for the day/weekend.

Do skulls/meta scoring affect anything (in terms of counting as level complete, rather than the more immediate effects the skulls have on the gameplay), or can I keep them on?

I don't think I am ready for tournament play as yet... think I am going to start playing pretty regularly with someone I met on LIVE a couple of weeks ago though... played with him quite a few times since and we have a pretty good record.

What ive seen to be a big problem for people is that sometimes they will play through on a difficulty and switch between co-op and solo, in which case the levels need to be all done in either of those, rather than mixing.

Skulls and scoring have no bearing on completion, They are simply optional extras in the game which help with armour (and of course points)

I need to buy a new mic at the moment since mine died on me a few days ago (playing SWAT and MLG is impossible without one)

Ok, 1st thing is 1st.
You could get recon on bungie Vs the world, or any other day (Depending on if you do something impressive)
But you cannot get flaming recon.

2nd thing: Whats your brothers name? bungie has a staff search engine, the names are never kept private for the reason of people posing as them.
Not only that, but i know quite a few of the staff.

And no, you dont have it, it would be your brother that has it if he is actually a bungie member.

Fun fact: there is actually no such thing as "flaming recon". The flaming head effect is actually granted by a chestpiece, which has the same appearance as the EOD chestpiece.

But you cannot get flaming recon.

Allthough, shishka has hinted about a new flaming body type, weather its actually a recon chest piece or katana no one knows yet, depeneds what shish and arc agree on i guess.
The reason they couldnt add new armour before was simply because it wasnt in the game to start with, however, with the release of ODST (22nd) they have hinted about adding it.

How the heck are you supposed to complete the game on legendary solo? Can anyone illuminate me? I can do heroic no problems, but legendary is just too much... Brutes need 3 *direct* hits from bruteshot to kill them !!!111 I finished the first 2 levels, and part of the way through the 3rd, upto that bit on the way upto the barracks where there are like 15 brutes...

Haha, but seriously, legendary is definately doable. It just takes practise. Also, don't use the bruteshot if it doesn't work
Go for headshots wherever you can. Sticky grenades are usually fatal if you stick 'em. And stay in cover! I would say the key to higher difficulties is to not get shot.

I second that. Also NEVER go into close combat with a brute unless you have a sword or a
gravity hammer. Otherwise, pick them off from afar with snipers and battle rifles
and then finish them off with grenades and weapons that work best at close range.
Also, for the OP your game is f***** up. I see no other possibility.

So, are you suggesting that the only way to get the Heroic award is to complete the game on Legendary?

If I did that (without having the Heroic award), would I get the Legendary award when I had completed the game as well as the Heroic one?

I've got all the level medal icons showing Heroic completion for single player when you select a level. Still waiting for a day when my GF is not about so I can complete the game through in a single sitting on Heroic again to make sure they all count.

As I say, I don't particularly want to do legendary if I will not get the award for it the first time round

As has been said, you should get the award for the difficulty you complete. In theory, if you completed Legendary first, you should get all the campaign complete achievements. I think.

So yes, complete legendary and see what happens. It'll make you a man!

I have them all. I just need the skulls for the ODST maps when they are released.

There will be 3 new maps to go along with it which will tie in with Halo 3. I am given to understand that you will also be able to buy them seperately via DLC, but it might be after they have already been out a while vs ODST.

Oh, and to the OP, did you make sure to watch the final cutscenes all the way through (including after the credits)? Don't know if you need to to unlock the achievement or not, but it's something to try at least.

Right now I'm playing through Heroic and am trying to pick up the skulls/terminals too. I tried legendary a bit but I doubt I'd finish it in time for ODST considering it takes me like a bajillion tries per checkpoint/section.
