Im thinking about making a Pirate ship for Captain Badruck only this pirate ship can fly. I will post a few sketches later on as Ive decide to "plan" this one instead of making it up as I go along.

What Im stuck with is how would it fly? I want it to look like a typical pirate ship with sails and flags with the skull and crossbones, the whole piratey deal. Only it will be made out of metal instead of wood and have armour plates all over it. Now obviously the sails are there merely to look good and I doubt they alone would be able to make it fly so Im wondering what would.

Im pretty sure a large rocket booster on the back of the ship would be the way to go but im also wanting it to be able to hover (or at least appear like it can). So do I put smaller rockets all over the bottom aswell as the Giant one at the back or is there something else that I could do?

I don't think rockets are the way to go, not with sails especially.

I'd go with about 4 helicopter style (maybe the ones from the black reach koptas) engines- 2 on each side, supported by beams coming out- bonus if they look like they could rotate so they could be used for up/down or pivot to be like airplane propellors too.

This is the ship from the game Rogue Galaxy.

Is this the sort of thing you're going for?

I reckon that turbines would be the way to go.
Thes ones rotate 90 degrees to allow the car to hover.

You could use KFF style antigrav generators, like a plasticard tube with a ball on the end and some rings along it, stuck on the bottom of the ship?

or Kopta's stuck on the bottom and a MASSIVE rocket on the back for speed
and lots of orky army plates and glyphs
oh and remember... RED WUNZ GO FASTA!

Cool, thanks for the suggestions guys

Im deffinitly going to stick with the massive rocket on the back and Im liking the idea of the Kopta like engines which would need to be able to turn to most angles to control the direction of the ship.

Im also thinking that some small wings would be a good idea to give it that aero dynamic look. Time to start drawing methinks.

Small wings would be great details to add !!

Maybe make them a bit blocky and supported off of the ship with cables like early airplanes?

Good luck !!

Bigger is better, also orks scavenge so, heres what you do....get a drop pod, bolt it onto the back, and put glyphs on it...also if you have wings, make sure they don't look like they'll work, otherwise its not orky.

EDIT: and NOT small wings, small wings are rubbish, having small wings isn't showing off, having huuuuuuge wings, with spikes and blades is flashier more intimidating, shows other bosses how big yoo iz, gives more places to but bommz and kannonz, and makes the ork believe it'll fly, cos it looks like it should, in reality it shound be the right shape but have th aerodynamic quality's of...well a metal pirate ship with a huge rocket sticking out of it.

On the topic of other suggestions, It'll need a launch pad for storm boys and deff coptas, looots of very large guns a brig full af frightened 'umies, riging full of swarthy grots and ropes to swing on, and guns, and swarthy pirate-orks, with guns....shiny guns.

Also the jolly ork flying high, did I mention a grabber arm, that could come in handy, for moving loot

First two things that popped into my head were the flying ships in World of Warcraft.

I like the Alliance one better (more steam powered/high tech) but you'd have to ork it up something fierce.

Dude, I would go with the skybreaker idea. But replace the wood with armor plating, and maybe replace the eagle figurehead with a 3D orky symbol.
