Subject: Anyone have the New Space Hulk??

Knight of the Inner Circle

I see pictures on different forums where it looks like people are getting their hands on the new Space Hulk early. My question is
What rules changes stick out from the original game. I also wonder if they fixed the flamer rules only hitting one section or in
the 2nd edition rules they used 12 separate tokens that really wasn't better.
The figs I hope are the same scale, So I can just glue them to bases and be done with it.
Other questions include what missions are there? In Deathwing you could build your own forces and basically make your
own missions. Does the new set have this or should we expect another expatiation.

Except for the scale (which seems to be compatible with 40K), I don't think anybody knows much more about the game yet. At least I haven't heard/seen anything that looks like someone got an advance copy and told everybody about it.
Perhaps, if you were able to post the forum entries you're referring to, the Dakkaites could judge the contents...

Got to play 2 games last night at my LGS (they got in a preview copy). I had a blast, and yes the models are 40k scale and very good looking. The tiles are very heavy duty and they seem to have a plastic like coating on their surfaces. (ie shiney). They game seems pretty balanced ( I played one game with each side). I believe the mission book has atleast 12 missions. One of them is multi level. Many of the maps are fairly large so be sure to play on a wide table. The card tables at the shop were to narrow to play many missions.
The game seems to play much like i remember. And since it was asked the flamethrower hits a section and attacks all modles in that section. we did not see a rule limiting you to shooting the HF once a turn. But the flame templates stay on the table(til end of turn) and do block los.

Thanks for the Info... always hated when you had a genestealer one square out of a 5 square tile and can do nothing
with your flamer until one of your other terminators cleans up the stragglers. Cant wait to get mine

I played a quick game at my local GW yesterday. It's basically 1st Ed with a few minor changes.
I'd forgotten how easy it is for a mission to go tits up for the marines. All going swimmingly one minute then suddenly you pull only 1 cmd point and a Storm Bolter Jams at the most crucial time! Within a turn you've been wiped out to a man! Awesome stuff!
We only played the 1st mission though so no idea yet as to the extra weapons or broodlord.
Still I was suitable chuffed at having decided to pre-order. The most fun GW game I've played in ages!

It was always a fairly lucky game in that respect, however it plays so fast you can easily set up and play again.
I'm not sure the super characters (Broodlord and Libby) will add anything good. They seem kind of like tanks compared to the other figures, and may make them redundant or just meatshields.

That's really my questions,
How does the Librarian and Brood-lord fit into the game?
What are the rules that change previous editions of the game?
Are there rules to make your own mission - Like in Deathwing?
Thought about trying a game of 1st edition with some buddies that never played next week and don't want to confuse them when the new rules set comes out.

Apparently the Broodlord and Libby are only in a few special missions. Automatically Appended Next Post: There's a good roundup on the new rules here...

The Broodlord and Librarian are pretty intense. The Librarian has an ability to create walls to block the Nids. He can also pour Psy points into an ability to blast guys. The Broodlord destroys everything. He's really hard to kill. The game is all about Overwatch. Holy crap. If the Genestealers get into H2H with the Marines they're done. Even the Thunderhammer/Stormshield Seargent goes down quick. Great game though. Very fast, very intense, very fun.

We've been playing it non stop. Probably 10 games yesterday and 6 or so today. A lot like first edition, but with enough little changes that it's overall a better game. And certainly better minis.

Are HTH Marines useless? I'd hate to think that they made such pretty Lightning Claw and TH/SS models and they just suck slightly less than regular Termies.
Also, is the gauntlet-mounted Grenade Launcher in the game?

I ran Space Hulk for three straight days at BoLS Con (which was awesome, BTW!)
The TH/ SS Termi is AMAZING in close combat! we had him walk down a long hallway, killed about 40 Stealers alone... (you can see him in this pic, on the left hand side http://twitpic.com/eyvqw)
The Stealers roll 3 dice in CC, marines 1. The SS means I roll one LESS die, so 2 as a stealer. The Hammer on is 2d6+1 and if its a seargenat model its an additional +1. Put him on the new "Guard" stance and he is a BEAST (he gets to reroll one die in CC each time)
They took the rule away from the Assault Cannon that said you can burn a clip to spray a whole line down a walkway (much to BigRed's Dismay!) I think it works better now though...
The Librarian is super cool and really good in the missions you have him. He has 20 Psi points and 3 powers (costing 1,2, or 3 each) One power , Prescience, lets him move the command counter track BACK one step (very handy), the other lets him put up a Force Wall that nothing can cross or shoot across until the status step (Clean up phase as we started to call it) and the last is Psychic Storm. Its like a Flamer that kills on a 4+ and doesn't require LOS. I forgot to mention that, none of his powers require LOS and they are all 12 square range. You can use the Storm to target a specific blip or stealer in range and kill it on a 2+, or the whole TILE and kill things on a 4+. They also have a Force Axe which is 1d6+1+X in close combat where X is the number of Psi points you want to spend to boost your attack. You can choose after you roll.
The BROODLORD is a BEAST! He is Hard to Kill, which means you need to roll doubles on any shooting attack AND it has to be high enough to kill him (that means a Storm Bolter needs to roll Boxcars on the first shot, or Double 5s on the 2nd shot, assault cannon is what you want to use! it rolls 3d6, and you are looking for a 5 or 6, if you miss and fire again, its a 4,5,6 so much higher chance of getting it. Note this WILL JAM your storm Bolter AND since the flamer rolls one die the broodlord is immune to the effects of the flamer. In HTH, he rolls 3d6 and adds the highest and lowest together for his score. This means that a Librarian will be the only one who can reliably take him out in HTH.
In the three days, We only had 2 Marine Wins. on the last day, three teams got REALLY REALLY REALLY close to winning, then as someone put it, things went Tits up in a hurry. I managed to sell 10 pre-orders to people just demoing the game. It is WELL WORTH IT, AND I SAY YOU WOULD BE A FOOL TO PASS IT UP.
Any other questions, hit me up. Im planning on hammering out a review this week and I'll see if the BoLS guys would post it for me.
Also.... There will be a Space Hulk Surprise coming soon from ME and a company that we all know and love (that ISNT GW)... ITs going to be SWEET!
To Reply to the "I dont know if the new characters will add anything good to the game" After running this game non-stop with all the rules, they add GREAT flavour to the play! Ive seen librarians wreck shop, Ive seen them get eaten quick (its all in the choices you make, you ONLY have 20 Psi points and they can go MIGHTY fast.) Ive seen a broodlord ruin someone's day, and Ive seen them bounce off of people due to bad rolling or poor organization of models. I once had every Stealer model on the board with 10 blips running around. It gets crazy fast. Id say play it before throwing out off handed comments like that. You might be surprised

Is the Grenade Launcher from 1st Ed still in the game? One of the Termies looks like he has one on his Gauntlet?

Ah well. I thought one of the Termies had it on the top of his glove. Maybe it was just some sort of random power cable.

I just want to add a +1 to everything musta said. I was one of the two people to actually win against him and his stealers this weekend at BoLSCon ^_-. Then later I had the chance to wreck plans and dreams as them myself. Both sides are a blast to play.

I put the termies together for my local store, at first we thought this thing was a floor tile peeler/lifter but when we checked the painted pictures we realised it's a distance "blip" scanner like in the film Alien. It's meant to slide down from his wrist into his palm The attention to detail on these models is beyond anything I've seen and I hope it's a sign of things to come; from what I've heard, DE should be on a par.
I'm still on the fence about buying it, but I haven't played it yet.

Just that they are taking so long because every model is being treated like a special character From the mouth of a store manager but I'm still not certain it's true.
