Ok, so its starting to becoming time for the anime club to bring up new anime.....
So, I need a messed up disturbing anime to go out on a bang with.

Bottle Fairies. It's a Children's anime meant to be semi-educational (like Blues Clues, sorta), that follows a bunch of tiny chibi pixies that're learning about the human world. If your club doesn't already know about it, they'll watch this super-saccarine anime, just waiting for something terrible/horrible to happen, and then the end credits roll without anything going wrong at all.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Naaah mate.
You need Boku no Pico

Then there's violence jack, which is super rare and has been banned most places.

In fact, you can throw in most early 90s OVAs in there as well, since the 90s was apparently the time of hyper violence.

Now that's the hard stuff.

If you want to try something more...accessible, try Another, Elfen Lied or Corpse party. Those have a bit more of a following.
But yeah, Mirai Nikki is good.

I just found the best description of Grimgar that someone posted in the comments of a streaming site:

randomguy01 • 2 days ago

Documentary about a group of filthy casuals stuck in an RPG with a "hardcore" mode they didn't ask for. Lots of crying, care-bearing, and the usual pains and strife's of a casual gamer.

The elite gamers are only shown in passing. If a future society where we can send people into an RPG game world, and we watched only the casuals progression, this would be that show.

Well if you want edgy, those are a good start. Might as well throw elfin lied and higorashi onto the pile. Please be over 18.

You could go deeper though. Go watch all of evangelion the original season and continue on with the end of evangelion movie while its still fresh. Take a deep look at the human condition.

I'm going to still suggest Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team. It takes place on earth for 90% of the show (it starts in space). Since the suits are stuck in Earth's atmosphere, they tend to not be able to do all the flying space lazer fights and it takes place in a jungle, so more firefights.

The problem with mech shows is that they're almost always just backdrops for the story that the creator actually wishes to tell. However I'm going to suggest a few shows that you might be interested in that aren't Gundam shows.
Patlabor (cop drama with mechs)
Big-O (it's a big mech, slow fights, but again not really about the mechs)
Armored Trooper Votoms (this one I haven't seen, but it comes as a suggestion from Cyporiean).

Gunbuster, before it goes into SuperRobot territory, is very much a 'real robots' style genre (well, to an extent. The Mech calisthenics, though silly looking, actually serve an interesting function that most Mecha shows just gloss over- that of the pilots getting used to their equipment's capabilities and controls)

It's all space fights, but they actually take into consideration things like Time Dilation for moving at near-light speed, and stuff like that.

Its funny, alot of the people are "youngtaku" who dont know about the old stuff. I suggested BIG 0 and there like "What is that" and I cried. Im not old damnit. im not old. But they know aboit higurashi and evangalion and elfen lied.

A lot of the youngtaku that you're interacting with is due to what is easy to get your hands on. Big-O was on Toonami when college aged kids were 10 or so. Elfen Lied is on Netflix, Eva is so saturated in the anime discussion that you almost can't scroll past a series without seeing someone making an Eva comparison. Higurashi was most likely a thing when they were being teenagers so they most likely experienced it with their peer groups. Though I've never heard of it until you mentioned it. I'm assuming you mean Higurashi when they cry?

Most other series are tough to get your hands on if it's not streaming somewhere or there hasn't been a recent DVD/Bluray release of it. I would suggest you bring in an episode of Big-O for them to watch and see if they like it.

I tried watching Claymore.
I just..I just can't. The animation and art is crap. Everyone has fish faces, I can't bear it.

If it didn't look so cheap and poorly made it would have been fine I guess. Has a trace of The Witcher about it.
But...dem Tau faces.

Read? Nah, I just listened to them. Its a tad foreboding. Even the title is ominous.
The first OP was better though in terms of composition. The new one sounds jarring to me...which I guess was the point considering the subject matter.

Actually its the third OP.

The First was This Will be the Day
The Second was Time to Say Goodbye
The third and newest one is When it Falls

I got the first and the second confused; got them swapped around.

Op 3 wasn't very good (though definitely the most foreboding). I'm actually surprised there's fan backlash about the step up in dark edginess. It was pretty apparent all the way back in season one that some of these things were going to happen.

Yeah, there's been significant forshadowing from the very beginning that the series started in a time of peace, and that peace wasn't going to last.

Seven Deadly Sin: So, King Arthur and his army showed up literally out of nowhere.....that was weird

Monoke: Second part of the story, I was getting food during it
Kinos Journey: I fell asleep
