Greetings all. I picked up some Flames of War Units at a sale a few months ago and they have been sitting on a shelf.

I saw Legoburners blog at
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/228445.page

which is excellent work and was inspired to actually try painting and assembling. I am not sure if I wish to play Cavalry Recon or Tank Lists so I am working on both

I am new to painting and I am only aiming towards table top quality.
Today I worked on the cores for both the Tank Company and the Cavalry Recon Troop.
9 Sherman m4s,
6 M8 Armored Cars
and the Tank Destroyer Section (2x M10 3in GMC and 1 M20 Utility )

They are only partially assembled and base coated but I thought I would start this (my first blog) as an incentive to myself to actually spend the time to finish this army.

Any comments are welcome and I want to thank Legoburner again for the inspiration to start this.

They say imitation is the highest form of compliment.

Overview

Hopefully within the next week I can highlight, work on the treads and finish the turrets on the recon/destroyers.

After that I need to work on the infantry components.

Thanks for reading this far.

I really like the models fro FOW, just can“t bring myself to jump on yet another system at this time... Blogs like this make that more difficult though, these look lovely so far, nice even paint, and not too tick.

Not much more to say for now, keep up the effort.

Excellent. Are you gonna start customising each vehicle like the crews did?

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

Thanks for the feedback so far.

As to customizing the units I will look at pictures and trying to figure out the best way to do this.

I have a limited amount of to scale stowage that came with one of the box sets.

I will spend some time this week looking at pictures from WWII era and try to come up with some variety.

I also have to determine if I am going to use the standard style paint scheme or the late war black camo patterns added.

It limits if I will be able to get away with using them in Midwar or not.

Life has been busy and I havent had the time I would like to work on this.
I decided to assemble all the vehicles I have for this army before I continued painting primarily.

I am still trying to decide if I want to do the black camo late war on the tanks or not.
These pictures are not the best but it should give you an idea of the units I own.

Got to love the big guns

Hopefully in the next week or two I can accomplish a bit more to show.

I think you should definitely try to get the black camo on the vehicles as well - it is the most distinctive thing about the US forces at that time and looks fantastic. Camo is intimidating at first, but looks great when you start to do it and the US camo is hard lined so you can use a brush and not have to worry about airbrushing tiny lines which helps a lot too.

Thank you for introducing your friend to me .

I 've had a box of shermans waiting for painting to Cobra scheme, but I've been worried about the camo. This should be the final push needed t get them rolling.

My wife thought my little tanks were cute and decided to help me work on camo and personalization. These tanks still need a wash...50cal MGs and white countershading but I wanted to get feedback before I continue.

Please let me know what you think. Forgive the poor picture quality.

They look good. The camo is bit harsh looking, but a wash to tie it down to the green will probably fix it.

The tanks look really good with camo, although Metsuri is correct that it looks a little bit harsh. There are a few easy things you can do to fix it:
1. Take extremely thinned black (maybe 1 part black to 10 or 15 parts water) and go around the edge of the camo with a tiny brush (1-2mm or so) to soften the contrast
2. As Metsuri recommends, give the black areas a thin wash of the base green colour (this will be the most effective option)
3. Varnish the model - a lot of the contrast comes from the different light effects from the black and green so varnishing should even it out a lot.

Really good to see more stuff and I look forward to watching your army grow. I'm about halfway done on my M10Cs so should have an update sometime next week on my plog too

I went with the green wash to 'dull' it down a bit.

I have to figure out decal's next and then attach the 50cals and call this batch done.

Goal will be to do all the Sherman's I own then start on the infantry for the armored rifles

I ended up working 7 days this week so no time to do much . I decided to work on them tonight with my wife helping out . This is turning into alot of fun working on them together.
And I dont get grief about buying my silly tanks anymore.

I am going to do camo patterns on the tank destroyers as well.

I decided to take two quick pictures while they were drying. I really need to setup a well lit area to take pictures sometimes..but here is the progress so far.

I am not sure if I should do camo patterns on the Greyhound (recce) units or the Half-Tracks or not.

Still need to look into it a bit more to see if non tank units were regularly camo painted or not.

Then its on to infantry..which so far has not worked out well for me.

Feed back as always welcome..I am happy with how things are coming out for my first time painting Flames of War and only the second army I have ever tried painting. (I might go back and finish my 40k army after this)

The tanks look impressive, nice to see the lot in green. Clad you had reinforcements in painting.

Daquack wrote:Still need to look into it a bit more to see if non tank units were regularly camo painted or not.

I was under the impresssion that only tanks had the black camo and it was applied for a limited time only. So around the operation cobra the shermans had camo, but the support vehicles were left without.
