How will you use the Space Hulk Genestealer models in 40K games?
As-is on their built-in bases
By mounting them on the standard 25mm base with their built-in base hanging over the edges
By whittling down their built-in base to fit onto a standard 25mm base
By mounting them on the larger-than-standard 40mm base
I'll save the models for use in Space Hulk only
I didn't buy Space Hulk or don't play Tyranids in 40K anyway

The Genestealer models from Space Hulk are really cool and dynamic, but their crazy built-in bases make them a little awkward to use in standard games of 40K (where they are supposed to be on 25mm bases).

If you are using these stealer models in 40K, how are you going to do so?

Just mounting them on a 25mm base.

Though the only model I would use would be the Broodlord.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I didn't buy SH or play Nids, but if I would, I would stick them on 25mm bases and trim the attached bases down to the right size. Unless I would have to cut away some of the detailed bits, then it would be 40mm for that model.

In terms of numbers of Stealers I own, I couldn't agree more. However, these Stealers are so dynamic compared to even the most recent multi-part kit that I feel like I really would like to include them in my 40K army, but I'm not entire sure what would be the best way to do so.

Space Hulk was totally worth the money!
The game is awesome!

The only reason to put the figures on regular bases is that the Genestealers are so dynamically posed, they don't sit on hills or uneven surfaces well

Definatley use them as is, just don't use the ones bursting from the hulk floor. Awkward and confusing in a 40k match. And on a different note about something completely different (sorry but I just have to). Milking the Money cow was used by the same person about a game they are now getting for X-Mas. I mean, make up your mind dude.

I got a second set of SH 'stealers for about 15 quid, so I'll leave one set for SH and mount the other set on 25mm.

I wouldn't mind getting the game and if I did I'd cut them down and mount them on better bases. Hell, I'd do them up completely like any other models in my collection.

I think the models look great, especially for any sort of diorama, but game wise they are just awkward so I traded them away and use other genestealers.

I'm only using them for Space Hulk (same as the Terminators).

They are great looking models, showpieces really. I'd like to paint them up nicely and display them when they are not in use.

I will be just mounting them right on 25mm bases, even regular stealers are impossible to actually fit in base to base contact because of their pose/arms so the hanging display wont make any difference.

I agree that they are amazing, which is exactly why I want to have them to use in my 40K tyranid army! The problem I see is: You kind of need to have the models on a 25mm base to have them play consistently in 40K, and if you just glue the built-in base on top of a 25mm base it looks pretty strange (give it a test-run just putting the model on top of a 25mm base and you'll see what I'm talking about).

So when I talk about 'whittling down the built-in base' I'm not talking about completely removing the model from the base (especially on all those ornate building bases) but just making the very bottom smaller to 'fit it' onto a 25mm base.

I clipped the built-in bases down a fair amount after gluing 25mm bases on them. I found that the built in bases tended to fall over in Space Hulk games, so I wanted to add some stability to them. A few of the walls have pipes and heavy walls that I didn't clip down, but I still trimmed them down to minimize over hang.

I'll see about getting some pictures posted.

I'm thinking a Retinue for the Brood Lord, but the most 'generic' ones. I just hate the idea of a Genestealer + Door Frame trundling down the battlefield, or a Genestealer that's forever bursting from the ground. It's just silly... or more silly than usual 40K antics.

Pictures! Sorry if they are dark, I need to get a portable light source for mini photography.

See how I clipped one base down, but allowed the other to over hang a little.

Just being a bit cynical here, but I'm waiting for the when FFG announces they'll be publishing it as part of their catalogue. I'll get it then, but I'll keep the mini's specifically for Space Hulk.

For the moment, they are sitting on both sets of sprues in one of the SH boxes. At some point they will most likely get put in the box that holds the Orks, Gretchen and Genestealers I have left over from the old starter sets, including Space Marine Assault.
