If I were to make an Army from the Sons of Malice Chapter do you think it would be better to use the Chaos Space Marine Codex as they are after all at traitor Chapter and (possible) followers of Malal. But reading the fluff they don’t seem too enamored with Chaos as a whole, so it strikes me that they wouldn’t necessarily have daemons per say, though they are in to human sacrifice and cannibalism.

Or do you think the Standard Space marine Codex is more suitable as they didn’t turn traitor until a long time after the heresy so would have access to more up to date hardware. Obviously leaving out any equipment that was brought in after the 13th Black Crusade and creating 'counts as units' to give it that Renegade feel?

I can see the merits of both ways thought i'm currently leaning toward the Loyalist way, what do you think?

They would have bound Daemons, Daemon slaves.

Hell you could use vanguard and pretend(use daemon models) they are daemons. I vote loyalist.

That’s the sort of lines I was thinking on. Changes of special rule names but still have the same Effect

E.g. And They Shall Know No Fear.

Changed to

Blinded by Hate.

Different name same effect.

Why don't you come up with a lists from both codexes. This way you do not have to be tied down to just one army type. One day loyalist vehichles and tactics are perfect and the next day a chaos tactics will be better. You do not have to have two physically different armies since a marine is a marine and they just turned renagade. For oblits you could use termies with the multi arms from a tech marine as the weapons. Vandguard for Khorne, Stern guard for the other powers. If you just want to use just normal marines (plastics) you could always bitz them out with a bolter in one hand and CCW in the other just carve off the imperial symbols. Then you can still play loyalist forces just have the army color on it.

Loyalist Codex. All the best Traitor forces come from the loyalist Codex these days.
