Reading over on warseer there was a "wish list" thread for the next CSM codex and a horrible thought came to me. Now i know some people like special char. However like myself there are others who strong dont like them.

Now hopefully when ever it is in the grim dark future that a new CSM codex shows up. I really hope that they dont "fix" the lack of legions by adding in special chars that in order to us a certain legion you HAVE to take....

I dont know about everyone else but I think that if this did take place I would be more disapointed then when the current codex showe up.

Seeing as how GW is on a specil char rampage as it is. Does anyone actually see this happening?

Or

Do you think they will put them in there and there special units/rules in another way...

(this is of course assuming that they are going to show back up at all)

If they do put more special characters (they will) it will make me happy to see one character if they decide to bring him back and that is DOOMRIDER!!! JK i meant Cypher.

That was not a funny joke,
not funny at all!!!

Cypher would be cool (still trying to get that model, well for a reasonable price).
If he is in there they might make a new model.

I dont know if they could make a cooler model of him. I really like the current model. Back to the OP i personally dont mind new characters as long as they dont make it mandatory to take them with certain builds.

I agree with the OP 100%,as I have ranted about several times before, I definatly want Legions back, but the last thing I want to see is some ridiculous "Typhus unlocks Death Guard..Kharn unlocks World Eaters " nonsense,It's limiting and unneeded.

@ Shadowbrand
Granted, the ability to take specific Daemons as HQs will/would be great, however NO choice should be mandatory.
One should be able to take A great unclean one, Typhus,a "Plague" lord or any HQ of their choice.
(Death Guard choices used for representational purposes)

Not necessarily. Read the Daemons Codex, there's a few stories in there about Daemons assaulting worlds that just happen to have a weakening of the barrier with no Chaos Cult present.

The important thing to note about this is that GW are on a Special Character rampage at the moment. This could change tomorrow, or it could change 6 years from now - GW changes horses so often (and often so randomly) that we can never tell what they design ethos actually is.

At the moment it's pimping special characters. Next they could decide that they're all about options and flavour, and suddenly the Tyranid Codex is the most customisable thing on the face of the earth, all for them to have a Dark Angel moment a week later, resulting in the Dark Eldar Codex being a steaming pile of bland.

Personally I think this trend will last a little longer than some of the others as the bean counters can see instant results from it. Special Characters that massively alter rules and give advantage + cheaper to produce metal moulds = PROFIT!!!! And if ever Codex gets their equivalent of Vulkan, who can blame them?

Because of that, Lucis the Eternally Useless will soon be leading every Emperor's Children army, Kharn will be leading every World Eater Band (despite the fractured nature of the Legion), Typhus will be the only one brave enough to lead the Death Guard (into every battle they fight) and Ahriman will be the only Thousand Son Commander in the universe.

As someone who both hates GW's special character frenzy and likes to tell his own stories with his army (rather than my own story as long as I've got Belial or Kharn as my main character), it sounds like abject torture. But, low level electric shocks are certainly less painful than high level electric shocks - and that's what the current CSM Codex is. 'Lesser evil', would be another way of putting it. I'd take Kharn or Typhus to each battle if it meant I could fething play my World Eaters or Death Guard.

The Cockatrice Malediction

I think it would be really awesome if they included Alpharius as a special character. Yes, Alpharius. He would have a rule that he always starts the game in reserve, but instead of rolling normally for reserves he only becomes available on an unmodifiable D6 roll of (get this) 7! That's right - he never becomes available and never enters play! He doesn't even have a statline. But don't worry - he costs 0 pts. And yes, he fills an HQ slot and you can take him as your mandatory HQ choice.

You see, the idea is that Alpharius is not so much a real person as a way of fighting. He's your whole army - they are all Alpharius. In fact, the picture in his unit entry would just be 3 Alpha Legion marines in identical armor glaring menacingly through their vision slits. Alpharius would let you field an army with no HQ choice (just like how Alpha Legion should be). Maybe he could even have a rule that if you take him you can give your CSM squads Infiltrate and ATSKNF for +X pts if they don't take an Icon.

Of course GW would never do this because they only make rules to sell models.

Are you kidding?

If you want to play World Eaters, Kharn will be mandatory.

If you want to play Death Guard, Typhus will be mandatory.

I mean, how *else* would GW possibly make the next CSM Codex work?

There's no other way, I tell you, no other way.

Also, don't be surprised to find out that Kharn, et. al. to see a price increase to $30 USD...

Ohh... good suggestion on how to allow Marked Lesser Daemons in the next Codex!

You see, GW, the CSM Codex practically writes itself!

All joking aside, that's actually not a terrible idea for an Alpha Legion army - no HQ required.
