Hi all.
When 6th ed 40k arrives in a few years time.
Would you like the devs to re-write the rules to suit the current game play.(Reduce the amount of writen rules.)
This includes things like introducing Movement rates, interactive game turn, making LD more important, using modifers etc.
Eg anything that would change the current direction of 40k development, I would class as a re-write.

Any changes that JUST change 'in game values', or re-word existing rules to close up loop holes/reduce abiguity, I would class as a re-shuffle.

Just wonder what you folks would like to see.

I would rather see them close the loop holes in the current edition.

I would like to see them tweak the rules so that no phase is regarded as the most important for example the biggest difference I have found with 5th is that Assault is everything. In my view the 40K universe is not the fantasy Universe - guns are very good and kill lots of people you don't prefer a big stick to a semi automatic rifle. I would like to see a better balance between assault and shooting. Oh and deamons made more playable rather than just boringly good.

Well 4th was good... it had a few minor problems and just needed to be tweaked a bit.

so instead of doing that GW Bashed it with a hammer until it begged for mercy, then ran over it with that real life rhino a few dozen times and got that drunken backseat gropefest know as the 5th ed rule-set.

So what’s to say they won’t do it again with 6th Ed rules?

Re-write. I want it to make every Codex invalid, if only to watch the fireworks.

I think parts need both.
So in general a shuffle, but like always they tear parts up and start again.

Why do you care? It's not like you play by GW's rules.

I just realized, that actually makes you the paragon of GW. You play the game by your own rules.

I support a rewrite but expect very little change. Just enough to make people buy more models or paint their existing ones a different color.

Hi again.
I would like to hear what YOU would like to happen.(I know what GW would probably do. )

I am just trying to get a feel for general opinion.

My wishes have been stated numerous times:

1. move dice to D10 and increase stat differences
2. more USRs and USRs in codexes for differentiation rather than unique codex abilities
3. speed up codex development and drop the codex release + mini release model

In short, I want a game with more frequent, smaller releases spread throughout the year, a D10 based game (I'd also accept a S1-6 chart) to increase army/unit differences and all the required rules in the rulebook.

None of these things have been embraced by the majority of Dakka and I don't see GW doing it either.

Edit: except -> accept

In some parts, Im rather happy with 5th. I agree, they need to fix loop holes and in general tighten the screws on it. So shuffle?

It'll be a shuffle, and several universal special rules will be split between the main rules and the universal special rules like Fleet and Counter-Attack. Some other universal special rules will be adjusted to depend on the user's profile, like Hit and Run, Counter-Attack, Preferred Enemy, and Fearless were.

Given the innovations in the War of the Ring it wouldn't be unreasonable to see more variable movement introduced into the game, to go with running and moving through difficult terrain.

I'd also expect pinning to act like the Thunderfire Cannon's Subterranean Blast.

Maybe they'll do something about the Initiative double-whammy (order of attacks and sweeping advance), but may not because improved Initiative is useless outside of combat.

A re-write wouldn't fly. GW would be stuck with the majority of codecies unplayable for 5 years, intead of the majority of codecies being half unplayable. It would take someone at GW coming up with something really unique and worthwhile to re-write and start from scratch. I doubt they're that clever.

Deliciously ironic, no?
