So, my gaming group is trying to start a WHFB campaign after a long and fun 40k one. One of us managed to find the rules for Warbands, and we set about reading the campaign rules at the end (the one where your troops gain experience and grow larger). To me, they seem like they have a huge potential for fun. With simple rules, quick games and persistence. (I also LOVED playing Kill Teams in 40k.) While 2 others in our group agree with me. The other three seem to think the rules are "unfair" and that they'd rather play with all the points we can muster (which is sadly only about 1500).
So, we turn to you folks. Has anyone had any experience playing in a Warbands campaign? Any thoughts on why we should or shouldn't? I'll throw a pol in and we'll probably run with whichever gets more votes, though I'd still just love to hear input!

Thanks guys.

Oh, I'm not sure this is relevant, but our gaming group is.

Play Warbands as a bit of fun while you build up your main forces. You can then if your sad like me have little back stories for your leaders, minor characters and units in your army to give it that extra sense of history and personalisation. .

When my LGC formed, the first thing that we organized was a warbands escalation league. It was a huge success and a lot of fun. We started off at 250 points which allowed people to either start a new army or get into the hobby with a minimal financial obligation to new models.

What is a youth? Impetuous fire.
What is a maid? Ice and desire.

I can't say I've played anyone with a Steam Tank, but I can imagine at that point level it wouldn't be too fun for the other player. I could see that player being black listed pretty darn fast.

Our gaming group here did a Path to Glory campaign, and it was A LOT of fun! I haven't played Warbands, but based on the fun I had in that Path to Glory as well as Mordheim, I suggest you go for it with the Warbands!

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Start with Warbands at 500 pts, and grow by 250 pts each week / month, until you're at 1500+ pts and switch to "regular" Fantasy.

Well, we were thinking of doing the campaign at the end of the PDF. The one cleverly entitled "Warbands Campaign". Have you had bad experiences with this? As we don't really mind playing smaller point games and that one seems like alot of fun to us.

I played the original Border Princes campaign getting into WFB, and then another variant when we started WFB in SoCal. Haven't tried it, and don't think it'd be any problem.

Mostly, you're trying to get the group into the basic mechanics and so forth.
