from what I hear you won't get rich but if this is your sort of "thang" then why not go for it.

You really don't get rich in any form of game production. Maybe the upper management see some green, but the people doing all the actual creative work usually do it just because the love doing it.

Really not a lot more than minimum wage I think..bit I can't be 100% on that. You get some perks I guess..like the chance to have your character and parentage assassinated on the interwebs by random people across the globe.

Worth applying though if you're ( and from what I recall you could well be !) good enough : you never know what the future might bring....it is uncertain and the end is always near....err..... and it's a foot i the door or an introduction at least. And all the FW guys are sound as a pound to chat to.

This is an apples and oranges comparison, but FFG had a posting for the product line editor for Dark heresy and they were looking for a fair amount of experience and starting the person off at 35K a year. From what I hear with the amount of experience they wanted you could have probably gotten closer to 45-50 easy in most other publishing companies that do mainstream books.

Once again... you do it because you love what you are doing.

Argh! So would be like something closer to 1000Pounds a month? That would be impossible for me to live.
As much as model design could be a good experience and a complement to my art direction atributes I have a familly to provide and today even in Portugal I make way more than that.

Its not only about what I love to do but more about how much I make.

You should see if you can work out a freelance deal for them!

Hmm.. again, I THINK so, but apply anyway. I'd love to be proven wrong, and that does go up AFAIK as you go "up the ranks", so to speak.

Got nothing to lose by applying and you might get some contract or part time work anyway --=Mr. Cockersell left to go to Peter Jackson's WETA company but he still did ( will do ?) work for them.

Hiring more model designers? Isn't it about time they hired a customer service person or two? Maybe someone who will actually respond to customer emails?

Seconded. I'd actually start a Tyranid army if we saw some Navarro designed Lictors/Raveners available for general sale, even if it is FW.

Ha, I hear that. Seriously-- and I know this is awkward for all you dern ferriners, phone them and they'll sort it sharpish, it is an utter waste of time trying to resolve any issues with them by email.

.. I might regret this but : if this continues to prove awkward then PM me some details, and I'll phone them from over here and get back to you, might be a bit slower than you guys going direct but at least it'll happen.

I'll state now this is a trial offer, if I wind up inundated with 356 things to chase up then I'll have to withdraw it, but feel free to hit me up about it otherwise.

Red--noone wants to call Forge World. Their British accents confuse us Americans

But yeah. The position has actually been open for awhile, I think. I remember seeing it first open up back in June or July, when they announced they were going to be doing Chaos Dwarves.

...only because it instinctively makes you want to kneel...

.they did advertise back then/before... don't think the position was filled. THis is at least partially, AFAIK, to accomadte the increase in fantasy models they will be doing which isn't restricted to Chaos dwarfs either... I would say that Empire and Chaos players might be chuffed with various odds and sods rumoured to be in the pipeline too.

Hah!
But yeah, I think we'll see some cool stuff from FantasyWorld(See? The letters still fit! Hurrah!). I'm really hoping to see some High Elf infantry and some better Shadow Warriors out of 'em, at some point.

I swear to God, the day I see Shadow Warriors that look like the cover of the upcoming Alith Anar novel--I will be making the biggest, most amazing Shadowlands themed High Elf army you will EVER see.

Hmm... whilst not a total impossibility I would suggest that you consider more alternate add ons and versions for races rather than complete alternatives, I very much doubt ( ) FW will be allowed to directly "compete" with the main studio releases, but it would perhaps, top o' my head example, be able to release .. variant Empire Knight torsos, shields, heads etc, new war machines and so forth. I would not expect them to "fill" any gaps from the army books either, so don't hold your breath for FW Hellpit Abominations/similar as you'll pass out, hit your head, cause a panic, upset your mum, she'll call your gran, she forgets to take the pie she was baking out of the oven, so the bakesale doesn't raise enough funds and the orphans don't get the Xmas pressies they wanted !

And you wouldn't want that on your conscience now would you .. eh ?

I spoke to Mark Bedford at games day and he said they would not be creating completely new things for armies outside of the basic concepts of the lists. The example he gave was they wouldn't for instance invent a new type of orc hero simply because they could.

This does make it interesting though reading what reds8tn said, because it may be that they group release together in Imperial Armour style books.

For instance they could release variant knight orders, and knights on foot etc for empire (same rules as greatswords), god specific upgrade sprues for chaos and you'd have a decent empire V chaos supplement. Throw in a few siege engines and you'd have the basis of a cool book.

Chaos dwarfs is easy for them to do, but anyone hear of any plastics being mentionned? I have heard nothing other than resin so far.

I think our main sculptor looked into the job at one time. I believe he said it barely paid enough to live on (like a poor college student) and he would have had to move to the job location.

Maybe that is why he is sculpting for us, he owns a piece of the work and company, sculpting is a harsh mistress if you are giving your work away after your done, its like a piece of your soul
