Yeah, just remember to thin your paints - and I mean REALLY thin them!

Multiple thin layers, FTW!

I read that as "remember to thin your pants", which at the moment seemed perfectly reasonable as well. I retrospect I don't know why, other than the relation between KD models and what is happening in my pants. Still a little bummed I didn't sell a kidney and get all in on this.

More comments from Adam, posted here because I am ridiculously excited about this game and crave more news, updates and previews!

@John D, that sounds house-ruleable! Or at least something we can work on as a group post-fullfillment. Back in the day we used to do similar things with dungeon hacks, and sorta race to the boss room. @Daniel, yes I got the plastic figure! It's assembled, the update has been written. Now I gotta take photos. I think it'll all be up friday.

Friday?!?

That's....TODAY!

Jan 23, 2014 on Kingdom Death : Monster.
@John D, yeah! You could sorta "run it" and just organize whom is going out on hunts depending on what players are available. The game does not need the same persistent player base, since players can just sorta pick out and follow their favorite survivors. When we play, we have a pretty large rotating group too.

Jan 23, 2014 on Kingdom Death : Monster.
We've tried having an extra player that controls the monster by drawing multiple cards and being its brain. Its absolutely brutal!

Jan 23, 2014 on Kingdom Death : Monster.
There are rules to scale it to 6 and I plan on supporting house rules online for more players.

Jan 23, 2014 on Kingdom Death : Monster.
Every monster is pretty unique. We have put a tremendous effort into translating the flavor of each monster into a deck of cards that toys with new mechanics, but doesn't step so far out of boundaries that you feel like your playing a different game. For example, the Man Hunter is a master swordsmen and he has a small pile of "Sword" AI cards that live outside of his deck, until a certain condition is met that makes him draw his sword. While the Flower Knight defines a "fairy ring" that he rarely leaves and gains more strength the more survivors are inside it with him. Which leads to a few interesting fight strategies as you can bait him out of it, or take turns going 1 on 1 with him. Again, I would love to just spoil everything… But not only would that take waaayy too much time it would also… spoil it all! lol

That's one seriously sweet Dragon king and it's not even finished yet the ribs as hands is a great touch and the person trapped within. I might have buy a second one as at the KS $30 it's a bargain will it even remain at RRP $65? No problem with the Watcher getting increased in size a bit.

I'll put all the images in spoiler tags if people feel the post is too long.

Update #81

Jan 25, 2014
DOUBLE BOSS UPDATE
Comment

Boss Update

Hello backers! I hope everyone had a good holiday!! Our holidays are a fond distant memory and despite the cold here in Brooklyn, NY the team has been burning up working like crazy!

Estimated Fulfillment Start - Q2 2014

We are still looking at Q2 to begin packing and shipping rewards. To be honest, a great deal of the timing depends on production and shipping tables. I'll keep everyone informed as we zero in on everything!

International Fulfillment

We have done our research, spoken to many fulfillment companies and people who have used them. We discovered that no one on earth is going to care as much about our project as we are. As a result I decided that WE MUST be the ones that pack your rewards. I can't even imagine what an outside group would do to resins??? Until we know exact box dimensions and weights, which are all estimates, I cannot isolate our final strategy for it but we will continue to look for some sort of European handler where we might send already packed boxes that could ship from one point in Europe.

Additional Pledging

The next 2 months are our most crucial months of this entire project. Because of this, we absolutely cannot be distracted and will not be accepting any additional pledges, reopening pledges, etc during this time. Once we are past this, as promised we will re-open pledges for kickstarter backers to increase their pledge and select more plastic rewards. (Sorry, resin cannot be swapped out or added, resin production is locked. ) Late backers from the recent black friday special (nov 29th 2013), will not be able to increase or adjust their pledges in any way. It is, sadly a restriction in order to keep everything manageable.

Super Late Backers

At this time, we are not taking on any more backers. It touches me on such a profound level that people still reach out and ask to be part of the project and while I really do want to include everyone… right now we simply cannot handle anymore backers in good conscience. The next chance to jump in will be when we start taking pre-orders. The pre-order prices will need to reflect the actual retail cost of the project. I am very sorry, but this is all part of small business growing pains and making sure we don't overextend.

Messengers & The Watcher

Here they are in all their plastic glory! I've been advised that these are test shots, and the faces should be a little more crisp on the final production run.

I was super worried about how this aerial monster would translate into plastic and how frail it might be. I decided to bump up his size from the original resin a little bit and I gotta say… I am very pleased! The sense of motion was well preserved and it’s quite sturdy! (I know because I dropped it, of course ).

Dragon King

As I mentioned before, I was not fully satisfied with the current digital Dragon King sculpt. I think I could have swallowed that feeling and moved on… but… but… Kingdom Death has never really been about hitting the "good enough" point and moving on. And if it wasn't blowing my mind well, I think as the project director I was doing it wrong! I guess this could be seen as one of the true boons of the projects overfunding / delay. We had the funds and just barely the time, to start him from scratch... so we can all thank Thomas David for creating the all new version of the Dragon King, sculpted with his very own masterful hands. Here he is at about 90% and oh how it BLOWS MY FRAGILE MIND!

What this Poots? Still sneaking more artwork into the core book? Here is the full page that will go alongside the nemesis encounter rules. hehehehe!

And then a page from the Sunstalker Campaign. It gets its very own intimacy table, instead of using the one from the core book. It's possible that some of their young may develop some interesting color shifting abilities!

Added Note: Image is NSFW
Spoiler:

Did I ever show off the Lantern Sword that is craft able at the core game blacksmith? Its an early Iron weapon so it has some flaws. I am totally in love with its style!

Oh yeah! I keep forgetting to mention this, but we have a full time Game Master! His full time responsibility has been to constantly play the game and to organize play testing groups. The number of hours and people whom have given us feedback and helped polish the experience is getting pretty staggering. I am so so so excited to keep moving this project along and get everything into your hands!

Thanks again for your continuing support!!

I usually prefer spoiler tags on large images, mostly because on my phone it takes forever to load. Seriously glad I got the Dragon King, and now I'm thinking I might just add all the expansions I didn't get(Sunstalker mainly) when it comes open in whenever. That Dragon is awesome, but I wonder how it will translate to plastic?

Thanks for the great update. Lots of fantastic looking models.

I do agree with Gregory though, something looks off about the Messenger of Humanity. His pose looks weird, mainly how he is holding his Dragonslayer sword. Things would look much more natural if he had a smaller lantern at his side and used his other hand to support his sword. Further, his hands look a tad too small and his arms are not as toned and muscular as I would imagine. And while I like the idea of the chained sword at his waist, I think it looks like it was simply tacked on. I feel its size and how it is attached to his side would hinder his ability to move in combat.

Sorry to be overly critical, but he was the model I was most looking forward to seeing and acquiring.

Perhaps sometime in the future we can revisit the character and create an alternate. From a project standpoint we have moved from the concept, to the renders of the digital sculpt which was shared publicly and now unto his plastic incarnation. I will add some minor tweaks to our production wish list and if there is time, I might be able to twist some arms and make adjustments. I still quite like him and feel the model is great. But compared to the masterpiece that is the Dragon King he is a bit overshadowed!

Because I cannot get enough of this project, some interesting comments:

Jan 27, 2014
Heya Juan, since we keep adding more art... it hasn't made sense to finalize and publish the art book. I think I will take the time and decide what goes into it once the units have been loaded onto the boat and we are waiting for it to arrive out our warehouse.

Jan 29, 2014
Just happened to be passing by, caught the tail end of the BIG sword discussion. Personally, I like swords of all shapes and sizes. I do not like it when over-sized weapons are swung around without showcasing their weight, as is the case in a lot of our pop culture. When it seems like they weigh a few ounces, I sorta chalk that up to lazy animators. In lieu of all this, the class of big weapons in KD are called "Grand Weapons". And they all have the "slow" rule, which basically means that despite bonuses, being inherent, skill related or otherwise, they attack at speed 1. If a chance at one big hit a turn, is your thing. Then they have their uses. A grand weapon specialist has a higher chance of knocking a monster down, which is a great way to open a survivor turn, but unless you set that up... its not very likely.

Eric S McClanahan about 2 hours ago wrote:

@Adam,
This discussion on equipping survivors has me wondering. Any chance of seeing the various survivor sprues before the pledge manager closes the final time? I know we have seen the initial art and a few of the assembled figures, but being able to see exactly what items are associated with each kit, and what they look like would be great. For those interested in the survivor swap it may help with planning, including whether to pick up an extra armor set or 5.

Jan 29, 2014
@Eric, It all depends on how close we cut it. If the pledge manager goes up once things are on the boat, I imagine it would be fine. However if I have to spend that time making all the final arrangements for warehousing and laying down the ground work for the fulfillment plan well... Basically I'd like to, but at this point where time is super precious, I simply can't make any promises.

Well, books require a pretty high volume (read: at least 1,000) before print runs become affordable, so it depends on how much interest there is...

Does anyone know what expansions the King's Hand and the Forsaken Warrior are a part of? Or if we can add them individually?

Also, have there been any close-ups of the kingsmen?

Oh, and I'd love to have an art book.

Forsaker (I assume what you're talking about) looks like it'll be an upgrade based on defeating a Butcher, given notes about masks in some earlier comment (model isn't available through the KS AFAIK)

I don't believe the King's Hand has been discussed as part of Monster, pretty sure he's not part of the game yet.

Maybe indeed further down the line, he doesn't want any more distractions, so I guess we'll have to make do with a digital one for now.
