I noticed that I don't see many ork lists on dakka with wartrakks or warbuggies.
Personally I never field them becuase I don't much like the models, but I do like the rules. The only reason I include deffkoptas in my lists sometimes is because I like the AoBR deff kopta models. Just looking at the rules I actually like the rokkit buggies better. If GW ever released a decent model I'd field them in a heart beat.
Is everyone else like me in this respect?

I plan on making 3. Not sure what types or anything of that nature. Im going to convert some landspeeders into buggies for them. I agree, I think they could be useful in a game if used properly. Just dont ask for advice from tournament players, because they are all about cheese builds and never use them
I have a decent sized bike squad I made, and I think on lists where I go for speed, Ill probably have those buggies running along side them to keep them from getting tagged too early

I run buggy's off and on depending on the build of orks I am playing. They are super cheap for what you get out of them. You can take three with big shoota's for next to nothing. You get solid support fire. Two squads of three can stay at range and lay down 18 twin linked shots. Running them with rockets is a cheaper choice than deffkopta's. If you are only running kopta's to use the rockets its something you should consider. They are also very good to block movement lines for vehicles or as throw away units. You rush them forward to make the enemy deal with them first before the real core of your army. Great for buying you time or slow down those pesky land raiders.
The only things to keep in mind is they are about as tough as tissue paper if they aren't getting cover saves. With cover they area little better. Also people tend to ignore them so they might really surprise how long they live. The only one's I haven't had any real impressive or useful luck out of is giving them heavy flamers. Just my experience.

yeah,
I agree, I've got a small 500pts grot army with three rocket buggies, they played in four games at a tourney and I was surprised that they were always alive at the end of each game contesting objectives and such!
I run them with KillaKans and DeffDread, Their strength is that they increase the ammount of targets the enemy faces... he can't shoot at every thing!
The squadron rules also help them greatly keeping the squad moving.

I'm envisioning an army with three squads of rocket buggies surrounding a trukk/battlewagon that has a Mek with a KFF inside and the whole assembly careening wildly around the board with 4+ saves.

They call that a Kulf of Speed
The ground pounders have their Killa Kanz, and the speed freeks have their warbuggies. I've run one off warbuggies in smaller games (I'd have 30 points left and the first thing I think of to fill them is a warbuggie.) they always disappoint when you take them alone, so I'm thinking they can work well, but only if you take a squad of three or more. They can make great fast moving fire support, and three of them should be able to get at least one hit.

Panic wrote: I was surprised that they were always alive at the end of each game contesting objectives and such! QFT It seems like my buggies win me every game, with a last turn dash to contest an objective. They seem surprisngly survivable (probably cos they are low on most opponents threat lists.) It's probably sub optimal use but my personal favourite use for rokkit buggies is shooting MEQs in the face (or in the back). 1 twin linked rokkit has a 46% chance of killing a marine who's in the open. Great for instant killing captain's on there own too. You don't get back up after a rokkit in the face! Panic wrote: The squadron rules also help them greatly keeping the squad moving. Yeah, but they also mean immoblized counts as destroyed. That's a real shame IMO as grot riggers used to be great, and now they're pointless. Also don't bother with RPJ as they're fast enough already, and you generally want to keep them away from the front lines popping rokkits from range.

Theyre not brilliant (they could be destroyed by a bolt pistol as i have found out!!) but the rokkit buggies are useful for manouvering around the side of tanks and letting rip with thier rokkit launchas (not that they hit often) the good thing is that once theyve done that theyve easily recouped thier points cost, theyre so cheap!!

That's what I mean. For 10 points less you get basically a rokkit kopta. You lose the scout move, buzzsaw and outflank options, but you don't have the koptas leadership problem. If you only want a TL str 8 shooting platform then the warbuggy seems like the way to go. They are a nice sleeper unit. Since I rarely see them fielded I think people might underestimate their effectiveness. Too bad I've never liked a buggy or wartakk model. I guess I needs to get converting.

yeah,
I think one of it's problems is it's size... it's not so bad scale wise with grots.
I used some of the wheel arches to make crows nest type rocket platforms...
I have 6 more on the way using the FW grot sponsons as the firing platform.
Some will be made from buggies and trucks but I'm also going to try using ork bikes converted to ATV buggies using this guys tutorial kitbash ATV's out of bikes...
I just have to remember that it's BS2... firing rockets from a buggy can't be easy!
It'll be a month or so before I can report back if having 9 Rocketbuggies on the table is a good idea... but It can't be bad for 315pts!?

The BS2 isn't actually that bad. It's twin-linked, remember, which means a 55% hit rate. A squad of three rokkit buggies puts out a fairly reliable two hits per turn. For 105 points, I'll take that.
I don't field 'em much because I tend to build my armies from HQ down, and so what with MANZ in battlewagons and SAG Meks and Lootas and such, I sometimes run out of points before I get to Fast Attack!

Never Ran Buggies. I really dont care for them much. I ussualy base my armies on the stuff that I like to play rather then what might be good. If it looks ugly or I just do not like the model then I will never run it.
Im Vain like that!

i'd use them if they could assault like warbikes. makes sense to me, orks like fight/smash/go fast, thats their primary reason to be in something fast, so they can go smack something upside the face.
unless they really were crewed by grots like shown above (awesome models by the way)

I love my Skorcha Wartrakk warbuggies - dashing up to some sneaky gits hiding in cover and laying down three heavy flamer templates is darned handy. They're a bit more expensive than the other warbuggy options, but they're template weapons in a BS2 list! I advance 'em behind my Warbikes to give them some cover from enemy shooting.
