In light of the 40K vs. ST lets define a more narrowed scenario.

Borg fleet, messing with diminensions pucnhes through into the 40K imperium and runs smack into a Necron battle fleet on its way to attack something.

1. Would the necrons try to take the Borg?
2. Would the Borg try to assimilate the necrons?
3. If either occurs, who wins or if the Borg start losing, would they be able to retreat in time?

@ IronChaos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg_(Star_Trek)

I think the borg might attempt to leg hump the necrons.

The necrons would probably almost wipe them out until the borg adapted to their weapons/tactics.

I think in the short term a borg fleet will probably get wiped out in the 40K universe unless they are pretty lucky.

Though if they establish a foothold, I think they will do very well, as they are all about changing and bettering the collective, while most other factions are barely holding their own most of the time when it comes to technology and fighting towards a single goal etc.

I could see the doing very well in the 40K realm. If they survived the necron counterattack then they would grow quite strong indeed. Necron tech and Borg repair abilities would be an impressive threat.

Necrodermis can't be assimilated the Necrons aren't electronics or that they are 100% necrodermis.
You can always adapt to something but enough power from the same weapon will kill you for example you see that a bullet can't pass through armor you wear it in the then battle 10 guns fire at you and your armor can't hold all of them and you will get killed.
Necron corpses teleport after they are destroyed but each time they ere destroyed the process made loss their mind piece by piece. That's why Necrons are mindless even some Necron lords have gone insane because of that.

I'd proffer everything besides the Ctan could indeed be assimilated. Its all just technology.
having said that the borg wouldn't be concerened if the necrons themselves could be assimiliated. They would be after the tech.

As I said, so long as they manage to escape the initial conflict and escape any persuit (I think the Necrons will probably see them as a significant threat - although I don't know a lot about the necron fluff, so could not say how much they would chase them), I think they will do rather well.

They have several unique racial traits that other factions do not have... such as the regeneration (as you just mentioned; shared only by the Necrons and Tyranids), the advanced technology (shared really only by the Necrons and a small faction of blue coloured fish faced aliens on the East side of town).

Only really the Tau come anything close to them in their interest and ability to create and adapt technology.

Once they have bolstered their numbers, I think they would be more or less unstoppable, assuming they do not take on too much at once.

If the borg get ahold of Ctan necrodermis or better yet a CTan ship then its all over.

They would have a similar weakness to Ctan though-although they'd more likely try to capture it.

They would shake hands, deliver a kiss to each cheek, and realise that they are long lost "brothers", and GW stole the Borg idea from Star Trek in the first place.

They would then go on to ravage both the worlds of Star Trek, and the Imperium, before punching in a new dimensional hole to take on Coruscant and the Jedi Alliance

The Necrontyr would phase out before any of them could be grabbed for examination. And if the Borg entered a tomb world, they'd just have endless waves of enemies thrown at them, as the Necrons phase out, repair, and re-enter the fray again.

The Borg would take some losses until they adapted to the Necron weapons, then they would quickly annihilate the entire Necron fleet except for one scout ship, which they would allow to flee to its home, in order to follow it and wipe out the Tomb World, except for one survivor, whom they would allow to flee, etc.

I agree with KK. Ive seen them adjust to being shot a few times in movies and shows and the like. They would eventually be able to take over the Necrons. And that wouldnt be all bad lol

There's really no way to tell if the Borg could adapt to Gauss weaponry; neither have any basis in actual science, and neither have ever interacted with each other. Plus, Necrons could probably tear Borg apart physically, since they're all The Terminator.

One thing is for sure, it would be the most boring matchup in the world.

If i remember right borg phase out too after being destroyed. The only problem i see is that the borg need organic matter to survive... and since Necrons are not, they would see them as not a threat. They would try to assimilate a few of each l class of necron and probably have luck with the fray ones sinvce they have organic flesh on them.

Once they gather the Information they would report back too Unimatrax zero one to the Queen. the Queen will say non threat, unless attatck, defend self, assmilate other life forms.

So basicly the Borg discover the Nercons, Assimilate there tech, leaves the necrons alone since they cant really use them..... end of story

Uh... they pretty much just have a bunch of other people's skin draped over their heads to look spooky. That's sort of like assimilating someone's jacket.

I'm not so sure a Gauss weapon could even be adapted to. If you look at the science of how they work in the codex, they work by stripping layers of atoms at a molecular level. Regardless of what material your armour or flesh is made from, when you're reducing it atom by atom, it's kind of irrelevant.

However, the Borg shields could adapt to them and block them out.

Even then, Borg shields are shields composed of energy atoms. the principle of Gauss Weaponary would still work.

It's very difficult to compare the two. The Borg are meant to be the all-encompassing enemy in the ST universe, but because it is the ST universe they are bound by its laws (ie: they cant go about hacking people up on screen, that is most un-ST)

The Necrons however, are in the uber grimdark of the 40K universe, were something is deeply wrong if you're not hacking people up. The grimdark of the 40K universe allows your bad guys to be reeeeeeally bad, whereas because of the code taken on by ST writers, the Borg whilst bad in the context of ST will never be as bad or evil as the Necrons.

For this reason, the two cant really be compared in a lowdown dirty fight. Necron Gauss weaponary is designed to flay you apart, they drape the skins of fallen foes on their bodies and are led by a monster who invented the fear of death and eats suns for a hobby. The Borg use energy weapons designbed to be destructive but not really gruesomely so, and whilst their modus operandi (technical genocide through assimilation) is horrific, in practice or physicality it is rarely so. They are two foes that can't really be compared because their spectrums are too far apart!

As you say, their shields would be stripped by the weapons, however, they can modulate them in such a way that the damage is minimised, much as they do with any other weaponry which impacts upon it.

And I don't think there is such a thing as "energy atoms" I think sheilds are just energy fields which work by either absorbing or deflecting energy that is aimed towards it.

And whilst I agree that the two forces are poles apart, they can still be compared in this context, in the same way that cowboys and indians are poles apart, they still duked it out for quite some time, adapting to one anther, assimilating technology and tactics, until one side won out.

This is somewhat simmilar, the bringing together of 2 different and distinct cultures to fight it out.

My belief was that the Borg could only assimilate organic matter, and then augmented them with cybernetic implants after wards. In which case the Borg would not be able to assimilate the Necron and thus not understand them.

With this drawback, I simply can't see the Borg winning, even if they gained a foothold.
