Hello all, I've been lurking around here awhile and finally have some projects to post. I've been slowly working on my chaos marine army with whatever free time I can manage. All the things I see and read here on Dakka has inspired me to hunker down and start painting, helps to keep form burning out on conversions

Thanks to LBursley's vast knowledge and charity, painting's Soo much easier for me
Flow Aid is a godsend! Covering models takes almost no time anymore.

These is my first Berzerker squad, tho I might add a few more conversions. I was pretty much just seeing what kinds of conversions and limb-repositioning would look good on chaos. The following chaos squad that I built has the feel that I want my force to have (need to get some pics up)

Still painting up a prototype model to figure how I want to do the red armour

Nice brass work! The round bits are really cool and add the 30K look well, and the pin-like bits of rod give that "Hellraiser" feel. It would be nice to see more of those on one or two models.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Very nice! I'll be following this one.

BTW, consider the reverse grip on chainsword idea stolen.

O H I am in the Webway...

That's a really cool berzerker squad, the additions like the brass and the different positions really make the squad look good.

Thanks All!
@ Iron_Chaos_Brute
Pretty much all you need is a jewelers saw or a razor saw Also once i saw the arm off to reposition, I replace what the kerf of the blade took away with a circle of 0.5mm plasticard, it's prolly not that important but it seems to help with the strength of the joint.

The angle I took the shot at isn't great, he's actually slashing upwards from right-to-left. *note* It's a very hard attack to deflect

Alright took some more pics.

This is my first constructed chaos squad with conversions, magnetized weapons, based and a black undercoat. I pretty much just cannibalized the chaos sprue for most of the conversions, adding brass studs and pins and chains. Just got a bits order off ebay of Warhammer Fantasy Chaos so looking forward to using those!

Paintin Time!!!

Firstly, I should probably go into detail on what I do to my paints. Through lurking around here and watching the masters I've picked up some very handy things that makes painting way less tedious. I can pretty much sum everything up in one word-Liquitex! That brand's fantastic!

To every paint I add a few drops of Liquitex Slo-Dri, and a Flow-Aid solution consisting of 1:10-Flo-Aid-to-distilled water. The Flow-Aid breaks the surface tension of the paint, I've been adding about 8-15 drops per jar to get a consistency I like. On the paints I use alot of, like my base colours, I've been adding Liquitex Matte Medium to help with coverage and to dull the paint down.

So here's my ratios

Base color: Hormagaunt Purple, I transfered 23mL to a 50mL squeeze bottle to ease the mixing
Add 2-5 Drops Liquitex Slo-Dri
Add a 1:4 ratio of Liquitex Matte Medium, so 6mL in this case
Add 10-20 drops of the Flo-Aid solution (sometimes more in small palette batches)

After Horm Purple, I'm doing a thin-ish coat of Liche Purple following the same mixing as above...got alot of stuff to cover and it doesnt matter if it's thin, just going to cover it with an Ink wash anyways.

I haven't taken pics of the Ink stage yet but I used Lbursley's wash recipe.
In a 0.25oz jar I added 3.7mL each of Matte Medium and the Flo-Aid Solution. Then dropped in 25 drops of Liquitex Deep Violet Artists Ink

I plan on doing a base of Horm Purp. followed by the Liche Purp. then the wash, then highlight all areas with Liche purp....then...some light blending with Flo-Aid and Horm Purp perhaps, just have to see where it goes.

Sorry about so much text but just figured I should tell you all what I'm working with, on to some pics!!!!!

Here's a couple works in progress I've got going and will hopefully have done pretty soon. I usually magnetize my HQ's so I can do weapon swaps, but for my lords I'll prolly just make swaps for lightning claws and daemon weapons

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Just got my mitts on some WHFB bretonnian polearms, chaos command weapons and warrior weapons, and chaos knight weapons!

Starting into conversions on the next squad is going to be fun, tho now I'm trying to think of what I can do with GS to add a kind of northern-chaotic-crusader knight feel. I'm going to look on ebay for black templar heads so I don't have to make a bunch.

Also, does anyone have a good tutorial or instructions on how to build a chaos knight out of the defiler kit? I'd really prefer to do something like that and bling it out with spikes and chains and loyalist corpses

Very interesting, unique conversions. And I like the purple Khorne thus far Alot of people do argue that purple isn't very good and doesn't cover well. How did you avoid this? Can't wait to see the finished army!

Thanks! I mix Matte Medium and Flow-Aid and a couple drops of Slo-Dri in my purples, really Really helps thin it down so it's not streaky. Using Hormagaunt Purp as a base coat seemed to really help the Liche Purple be noticeable on the model, and the purple ink instantly adds shading and deepens the Liche Purp even more

Sway back and under, moving your body sideways to their right so the sword passes over and beyond you, and try to strike under their guard. Easier than deflecting. Fails dismally if they can pivot the blade and keep the momentum to slash back down on a similar path, because you tend to leave your side open, although that works best if they're fast enough to do so before you can get your body around. Or they could just knee you hard if they have the balance. And it tends to fail if they angle their blade out and it is long enough.

The above is lots of reasons I never want to fight a Khorne marine, because they could do all of the above. >.>

I love the use of the chain in your conversions, and some of the unusual positioning of weapons. Including your 'I'm going to show off while disemboweling you' one from above.

Indeed! Unfortunately(and fortunately) for me, me and my brother practice with either Type XII longswords or Type X-XII single handers so we always use both edges Which reminds me I need to make some armor for sparring....physical contact in the form of knees and elbows hurts as much as a waster on the knuckles
