I just got my first metal Mini (CSM Sorcerer), and I realized that the glue I have won't work on it, what with it being plastic glue and all. what do you guys use for metal minis?

Also, what's the best way to glue him to his base? the tab is too loose in the slot for me to just glue it. Should I fill it with GS or something?

1) Normal store Super Glue

2) Bend the metal tab and wiggle it into the base with glue.
The bent surface will provide a very tight fit along with the glue.

I had my first GW Academy lesson last Sunday with my metal Sisters of Battle Squad and was told to put the super glue on the bottom of the feet. It worked quite well.

i'll second the "normal store super glue" ...as long as it's "Krazy glue". i find it to be be the best of the general super glue you can get at regular stores.

Most of us use a technique called pinning.

If you Google "pinning miniatures" or similar, you'll find some excellent resources.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KHkRKgqYdc

I use any old cheap Super Glue. The last lot I bought was that really tardy 10-for-£1 packs. Not great glue, but with a pin it holds great.

As far as the metal tab is concerned, what I tend to do it put the model where I want it, then fill the gaps with Super Glue. Under the feet, in the bottom of the base; fill that sucker right up.

It'll take ages to dry, but when it's done it'll hold forever.

Loctite Superglue, either liquid or Gel depending of the size being glued or whether there are any gapes between the parts.
And always pin them together.

Yeah, pinning is what I was going to say, although you can also use greenstuff.

I use a little bit of GS and some super glue to hold mine together. If you're near an auto dealership, buy some of the industrial-grade automotive super glue. I use the AC Delco stuff. While it's still not perfect, it's about as good as you'll get. Plus, the foil tube usually comes in it's own larger plastic tube, which you can use for terrain

As for your bases, yea. Just cram GS in the base slot once the mini is solidly glued on the base, and trim away the excess.

Metallifan has it right imo. GS and some superglue (GorillaGlue is my prefered brand of choice.). Glue first, then a little gs in the gaps once it's all dried.

Drill Pin Score eah side and use regular super glue with Zip kicker accelerant. I have models i pinned 15 years ago that are still together after 7 moves and rough handeling

There is a glue called E6000 that you can get at Walmart. It sets farly fast and is great for working with metal to metal. Will also work on plastics to metal.

Best thing is you won't glue your fingers together, and it costs less than a tube of superglue.

I just use a hot glue gun on metals it's cheap & can the extra exposing bit can be clipped off but you don't really need much.

I am so glad somebody else knows about that stuff! I use nothing else. I haven't tried to put together any really big metal models with it, but I did use it to glue together Kaptin Badrukk, and I abused it every way I could just to test the hold, and it is still solid. I just wish it was a little bit less messy and stringy, but that's controllable if you get rid of the strings before it sets.

Zap-a-Gap is the best glue I've ever used. The Loctite gel never seems to do too well for me, unfortunately.

I've run into problems where "store" superglue just didn't hold while Zap-a-Gap worked great. My advice is to head down to your local hobby/game store and get that.

For metal to metal joints, I pin and use a two part epoxy. That thing is never coming off!

It is a two part epoxy cement available in many countries under the brand name Araldite.

http://www.huntsman.com/advanced_materials/index.cfm?PageID=5850

It seems not to be available in the USA however I am sure there is something equivalent. Whatever Todosi is using -- PM him for the name.

I prefer Araldite for metal models. The disadvantage over Superglue is that you have to hold the bits in place with Blutac while it sets. The bond is stronger than Superglue though.

I use the Rapid Araldite. It sets fairly hard in 5-10 minutes though it takes overnight to fully cure.

This is the stuff I use. It's basically the same as Araldite. You can get it at Wal Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's etc...

I ended up getting some stuff from my FLGS, it's their own brand of superglue (at least, it has their name on it)

Another question about metal minis: How do you guys get rid of all the mold lines and such, because my files don't seem to work.

I use super glue and a little GS. Never had a metal model so big it needed pinning, probably never will.
