I think that's the big difference. They are slotting in specific time for the final round where most tournaments don't really do that. They are calling finish your current turn @2:15 which should be more than fine. It's not a hard dice down rule. I think it should be fine but I generally play relatively fast.

It's more like we call finish current turn at 2:00 or 2:05 or so, but still the point Hulk makes is my general point. As soon as every win or loss is plugged into our system this year, we'll have the next round pairings ... no lagtime in between final w/l entry and next round pairings.

Mike - how much time do you plan to allow between the calling of pairings and the start of the 2hour and 15 minute timer? I've been frustrated a number of times by opponents who don't show up at the table until 10 or more minutes after the clock has started because there was too little time between games and they needed a smoke, restroom break or snack. On the otherhand, if you give too much time you'll a scenerio where some pairings played longer because both players got to their tables quickly while others play for the allotted 2 hours and 15 minutes because one (perhaps intentionally) or both players came to the table late. I've never played in a tournamant of this size before and am not sure what to expect

Basically, when the round starts there are 2:15 formally in the round, and a :30 or 1:00 break in between (1:00 for lunch). Our turn-around time on next-round pairings is VERY fast this year with changes to our scoring system and processing approach. As a result, instead of needing those 0:30 to process all the scores in and generate a next-round pairing sheet, the primary function is to give people an opportunity for a snack / bio break, lunch break, and to finish games that in some capacity were either started late, went a little too long, someone tried to slow play, etc.

The one thing that's critical here is that even with a 15+ person judging staff managing the field of players, there are a LOT of people and games to watch; that's about 8.5 games/judge. It's incumbent upon you as a player to make sure you alert staff if someone is materially late showing up to the start of a game, or you believe they are slow-playing, etc.

Best advice I can give you on preparing is via our newsletter #2 and also summarized as such: PRACTICE. The more familiar you are with your list and the missions, the more effectively and efficiently you will play, the more fun you'll have, and the more you'll enjoy the event. Familiarity breeds confidence and speed.

We continue to draw sponsors for this year, ranging from awesome game events like The Battle for Salvation to product sponsors such as Battle Foam.

Our Sponsors & Donors page has the full listing:

http://www.novaopen.com/sponsors-donors/

We're up to TWENTY different sponsors and still growing, and appreciation goes out to all of them.

We've also strived to have more and more of this year's prizes and sponsorship frontloaded to random raffles and your swag bags, so the proverbial "love" is being shared with a higher % of the average player. Winners will still receive trophies and prizes and attention, but the NOVA is about every one of our attendees.

Very few 40k GT spots remain before we'll be hitting wait list ... snag it while you can.

In addition to "appended" new info above, we've also now got even more bar sponsorships for the bar crawl, and are now including HOTEL WEEKENDS at various US destinations in our raffles.

Must the models submitted for best painted and/or best converted come from the army you are playing?

Or, forbid non-mechanized armies, along with any armies with 20+ KP to encourage people to bring armies that *can* finish a 2k game in 2 hours.

(picks self up from floor)

It takes two to play a game and two people to make it go slow. I'll be finishing games with my foot guard army in plenty of time...

Alex I love you.

What he said, is super relevant. Slow players play slow. If you know your list and want to finish a game, you can 99.9% of the time.

Oh, and for this year you'll have to submit miniatures from the army you are playing. Starting next year, we'll be working in more of an open format full on painting competition, a la "Golden NOVA" or thereabouts.

Just bought my weekend badge. Looks to be amazing tournament/weekend of 40k and fun.
Sorry to pester you with question Mike, but I was curious if you have a set date by when the invitational list will be decided. If not, I understand as you have to contact a lot of people!

Will you be looking for lists in advance or checking them all during the gaming?

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

E-Mail me re: things for your wife to do during the weekend - can suggest a TON.

Place for list pre-submission will be novaopen@gmail.com ... will release protocol and details on list submission, presubmission, legality, and penalties in final newsletter, due next week.

We are less than 3 weeks away. Ugh.

Over 350 paid attendees, btw.

Mike, unless I'm totally reading the Missions packet wrong for the 40k gt, you need to update the 2nd page of each mission. The pri/sec/ter goals don't match up with what the mission is (or is that intended?)

Would love too, but the whole army is converted, and I would prefer to have no chance of getting into modeling issues.

Edit: actually, I've sent an email to Mike about it. The daemons may be a possibility!

Quick question:

For the team tourney, is the 2000 point list that is to be used in the 1V1 game, an extension (i.e. escalation style) of the 1000pt. list that will be used in pairs games??....or can they be entirely different?....thanks everyone...

Made in us
Longtime Dakkanaut

Each player must pick the 2 armies he uses from the same codex, but the entire team may use up to 3 different codices between them, and the 2000 point lists are not escalated from the 1000 point lists.

This more is about the players' ability to effectively craft a list not only for the TT, but for individual play, both within the same dex.

There is a TON more in every swag bag ... scenic bases and magnets and snacks and tons of bitz and all manner of goodness. Don't want to give EVERYTHING away.

Up for a spontaneous trip? A small handful of 40k GT spots left due to last minute drops, plus there's the trios team tournament, malifaux, warmachine (Each with just a couple spots left), and just a ton of open gaming and fun stuff to do!
