Nice Kalyshi, they're fun on pitch though you really want that Captain/Guard in there.

She's in the queue, but I'm taking a break after all those mold lines and working on this month's Comp entry.

The first Strider is finished:
It's kind of rough, what with my not being very experienced with vehicles. I'm happy with the heat burn on the flamer, though.
I have another one mostly cleaned up, along with the limited edition resin Rebs sniper I got in the first DZ kickstarter. More pics when I have something worth taking pics of.

Big fan of the Strider. The treatment on the weapons is fantastic ( I do love heat stress) and the subdued color scheme works great.

Thanks! I did the heat stress using standard mini paints, rather than inks over metallics, and it turned out pretty well, IMO. The color scheme is one of my go-to's, based on my (dwindling) selection of craft paints, which I use for larger models.

Thanks! It didn't do so well in the Dakka Challenge voting, but it was up against some very, very nice models. I'm glad to have finished it though.
I don't think I have ever seen an issue of Citadel Journal, much less the one you reference. I can only assume the rules were weird and unbalanced, as everything outside of the core books were...

Lots of fun models so far. Keep up the good work, everyone!
I think this second strider is finished:
I have a lot more walkers in the pipe, but I'm out of 60mm bases. If I get around to having some shipped (there are no local games stores where I live), I can probably get one more done before the end of the month.
In the meantime, I made some progress on the Rebs sniper-- seen kneeling beside the Strider. I'm basing her colors on Zoe Washburn from Firefly. She's resin, so of course the barrel of her gun snapped off almost as soon as I start working on her. I need to replace the drill bit I broke working on the Harlie Dread last month before I replace it with something more durable-- every bit I have is either too big or too small.

I suppose I was lucky, as I'd been using that particular bit for years. Hopefully the local hobby shop still carries micro-drill bits...
inmygravenimage wrote:Very excited to see Zoe. I'm fairly sure I have an extra reb sniper rifle if you need one.
Thanks, but I'm going to just drill it out and put in a bit of wire. That will work just fine at tabletop distances, I think.

Possibly the only positive effect of snapping off that drill bit: the next size up allows a bit of play when pinning models, so the legs were easier to get together than they might otherwise have been.
I did pick up a smaller drill bit, allowing me to add a bit of wire and finally finish this limited edition Rebs sniper for Deadzone:
I need to start photographing models during the day to take advantage of ambient light...
I also managed to crank out this Marionette Phantom, also for DZ:
It's a lot more blue in real life. I picked this model up along with the Tigrax Outrider, as I am an unrepentant completist regarding Deadzone.
I'm not buying many minis these days, as my backlog is truly frightening. I am, however, continuing to buy rulesets that may or may not ever get played. The most recent arrival is Forbidden Psalm, a post- apoc setting with heavy RPG overtones. The first scenario in the book requires corpse markers, which inspired me get these done:
These are from the Sedition Wars terrain set. I have never played SW (I suspect that I'm not alone in that), but I like all the stuff that came in the box. The terrain set is particularly nice for SF scatter. I'll be a little sad, I think, when I finally get it all done.
Here is everything from this weekend all together:

Are you talking about the 1st edition stuff, like the Plague Enforcer or the casualties? I think I have everything of that vintage. I may be missing a few of the mercs from 2e on, and I never got into Star Saga, though.

Nice to see SW make an appearance. Most of the models were pretty cool. The game? Who knows. The Marionette is sweet, too. And I feel your pain on the backlog front. So many models, so little time.

For this month's Dakka challenge-- the theme is Glow Up-- I (re)painted my Avatar of Khaine:
Here he is, pre-repaint, with his mini-me:
And here he is, all finished:
The lave-like glow took a long, long time to get it as good as it is. The NMM bronze works well enough IRL, but kind of breaks down in these large-size photos. The base was a bear-- I built it up with putty to give the peg in his foot something to grab onto. I then applied some cracking medium, planning to do a lava base. The medium didn't stick to the putty though, and curled up so much that it looked like eggshells. I ended up scraping most of it off. I'm quite proud of my green-and-red alien plant, though.

Lovely glow up, your NMM work is really great, I think it holds up pretty damn well in the photos, so must be a real treat in person.
I have the new plastic Avatar to be added to my latest Eldar army and I love how much they have stuck to the Avatar's aesthetic through all of the incarnations.

The alien cactus is a recurring theme amongst hobbyists of a certain age. The base was so boring and brown, and it provides a lovely splash of color.

The model works best in slightly lower light, and at a certain distance. It's pretty rough up close and brightly-lit.
The newer incarnations are huge-- I'd need to build an additional bedroom just to have a place to keep one.
