Omadon's Realm

I was looking at Mousekiller's great dwarf army in the blog section (do take a look btw http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/268826.page ) and thinking how great it looked and it made me realise, I never liked dwarves before.

Years ago, as a kid, I loved skaven most (and if lizard men had existed they would have been my favourites), then as a teen, firstly it was Undead and Chaos, then dark elves with their wickedness and spikey hawt murder loving metal bikini-chicks. On returning to the games now, much older, I am very taken with Empire, Dwarfs and Wood Elves (with some chaos as well).

In 40k, I started with marines, they went through two identities, firstly as (the original black) Dark Angels and then, with the arrival of Realm of Chaos, Slaves to Darkness, they became Black Legion (with the addition of cocktail sticks...lots of them), then I loved the Eldar and was involved in the game as the Eldar we know today were taking shape, I remember going into overdrive of excitement about the original Jes G sketches appearing in WD of the Eldar and their ships and then the Aspect Warriors. Again, on returning, the marines and tau and eldar and imperial guard were all spoken for but that didn't matter because I have been astounded by the amazing range that Orks have now, when I were a lad they had a rather poor selection and very jumbled aesthetic.

Have your favourites changed or are you an 'always chaos/highelf/marine' type?

When I did 40k it was Space Wolves, then SoB's. I sold those a long time ago when I moved away from GW games. Currently I'm in the middle of selling off my models to pay for other stuff. However out of the few things that I'm keeping I have to say my C3 Wolfen are my favourite, followed by my Kelts. I love painting the Rackham metals and the background fluff is amazing, so whatever happens they will stay with me.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Never used to like Nids back in the early 90's but then years later, I have found myself building a Nid horde. I think this is mostly due in part to the quality sculpts that have appeared (compare an early Nid warrior to the current release for example).

From England. Living in Shanghai

As a kid I played a lot of armies. I couldn't really keep my mind on any one army at a time. I went through (in no specific order) chaos, marines (of the ultra and wolf variety), nids and eldar.

Now I've grown up a bit I'm a bit more focussed. I played a bit of Tau when first getting back into 40k until my real passion showed through...Nids. I now have amassed about 6000 points of the critters with no sign of slowing (especially with the beautiful new releases just around the corner).

I started with WHFB and had a mixture of undead and orcs/goblins. I also played spacemarine (epic) though not as seriously.

My tastes changed and I soon got ensnared by the look of The Space Wolves in 40K (when Ulric first appeared I wet my pants!). I still painted some fantasy stuff but 40k had its filthy claws in me by then. By the time third ed came out I was onto chaos marines, fielding a khornate army.

Someway into 3rd ed I and many of my mates got bored and we moved onto different games vowng to leave GW behind for ever! We still painted minis as and when they took our eyes.

With the advent of 5th ed 40K the IG started tugging at my brain and that is the army I currently have. I am also starting a chaos themed army for fantasy. GW based product no longer fills my time though I have dabbled in Void/Metropolis, Malifaux,We have some fun with a skirmish game in development and am looking at weird war and alternative ww2.

I guess that as I have got older my tastes have become more varied and I am looking for that next hit of gaming nirvana.

Dark Elves.

I was first into Fantasy, and I never really noticed Dark Elves. By the time I was interested in them, I was unaware that the entire army was getting a new book.

Vamps look a LOT better now, as well.

Mousekiller's stuff is fantastic, isn't it?

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I always enjoyed Orks in one way or another - they were one of my favorite opponents to fight in tabletop and Dawn of War, and in the last year have become one of my favorite armies to play. That was more an evolution than anything else.

Dark Angels used to be my favorite Space Marines chapter during my angstier times in highschool. By the time I was out I was into Space Wolves and codex Marines and had no interest in Dark Angels. I still think their models look really cool though.

I'm still a big fan of the Imperial Guard and her lovely tanks, ever since I've first seen that Studio Russ tank with the sand and light green camo.

But other than that, I find that I grow to like other models and ranges over time. Orks are a big example of that. Never liked them but when my brother got Ghazghull I got interested as well and now I've got a large (unpainted) 5000 points army somehow. Same with the Orcs & Goblins, Tau Empire and Elysians. Especially the latter. When they were released I gave them a wide berth, but after reading Imperial Armour 4 I fell in love with them big time.

I started with Marines and then got into Squats and Imperial Guard in 40K. In Fantasy I was into Dwarves when I started out. When I got back into painting now, I went Chaos with WFB and I have a small Ork army or 50 guys or so now.

When I was younger, I think I was really picky about the armies and what fluff was cool or not. Now, I"ll paint anything as my perception of the game has changed entirely. That being said, I like to make things that are weird and strange and get more into the theme or even basing of the minis.

Cant say I have changed a whole lot, I for some reason have jsut always hated Space Marines, Imperial Gaurd, and anything related... Maybe its cause everyone plays them? Maybe its cause GW promotes them so much? Not sure why, however I have always played Orc(k)s and Chaos. Both Fantasy and 40k... I even tryd to get into Renegade space marines and could never do it. So honestly my favorite really hasnt changed, Orks are my prefered in 40k and chaos in fantasy however I love them both in 40k and Fantasy over everything else.

Not really.

I liked SM and eldar from the beginning (why they are the two largest armies I have).
My DH/WH and guard have been works in progress since 2nd ed (put on hold until I could get suitable models for what I wanted).

The armies I don't play are just the ones I had zero interest in (so, DE, tau, CSM, bugs, necrons,) from the start (or from their start).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I always used to have a big thing for 40K orks and Fantasy Lizardmen. I still do like them, but have moved onto other things. I don't really like the way they moved away from the goofy orks and their clans and made them a huge rabble. I liked Gorkamorka but felt that their more feral nature in that was more the exception not the rule as it's become.

The only models I sell are ones that people pay me upfront to build and paint. I still have my first minis sitting in a box in my room, including the Hero Quest models.

now Im up to about 12,000 points of space wolves, 4,000 points of Vampire Counts, and about 1,500 points of Genestealers

Orks and lizardmen only. Back into the hobby again after several years off, have a mountain of orks and am considering making a lizardman-themed daemon or tyranid army. I like the Dark Elves and Dark Eldar, but not a fan of their model ranges in general, but were that to change, that would be my only temptation.

From the start I purchased several codices when I got into the game during third edition but ended up starting IG. Got into Valhallans (big mistake for a teen as if IG wasn't already unkind to one's budget), Catachans, Armored Company, Praetorians, and now converted Cadian/Valhallans.

I recently started up a Tau army a couple months ago; IG and Tau are two of the coolest looking armies imo but IG is still my favorite since I'm still a military buff at heart.

I've never been that interested in WHFB,however I've always liked Skaven and Undead (big supprise).

The only armies I think i have not owned for 40k are Eldar and Dark Eldar. Neither is my cup of tea.

1st 40K army: White scar Space marines (2nd edition)

Most 40k armies owned at one time: I was up to seven armies all over 3000pts. at one point but have currently sold off everything but my SOB(Long time favorite since 2nd edition) and orks.

Army owned multiple times: Tyranids and orks. I had a big 2nd edition tyranid force and sold it off. Then did another about six or seven years back, but also sold it. I had 3rd edition orks and sold off. Started them again with new codex.

Armies I spent the most money/time building: LATD and Genestealer cult(2nd edition)

Army I regret spending time/money building: Grey Knights (it sure looked pretty, but I rarely played it)

Army I am tempted to build currently: Blood Angels )always wanted to play them)

Army I would start in a heartbeat if GW did an official codex: Adeptus Mechanicus

I feel in love with high elves and pretty much stayed with thme till beasts of chaos came around now I sold my beasts army and am taking an indefinite break from fantasty.

I got into 40k with 2nd edition eldar and loved them, I've seen donated thme to a communal group of armies my friends and I have. I moved from them to 3rd ed DE still have those and then added SOB to the list. I'd always wanted to play IG but I was to poor to field an army. When I grew up that all changed and now I have all the armies I want. So yes I am a changer but somethnig about regualr gruants just apeals to me.

probably just my opinion on armies and/or my changing play styles, buts thats mostly what happened...
