I heard that I need grey knight squads to take heavy support land raiders, is this true?

Does the equipment look optimized enough to you?

I am 80% sure, but can anyone verify that this list is legal?

I was inspired to do this by the adeptus mechanicus, yay.

Thanks in advance.

It is legal.

Inquisitor Lords, Inquisitors (page 22, under retinues) take them as transports, the rest of them come from Heavy Support.

Problem is I would bet this army would get destroyed rather frequently. I mean c'mon 4/5 of your army into land raiders? I know this list would tear up anything mechanized, but it just won't have the shots to handle much else.

I might want to throw in a psychic hood, that everyone hates, it would make it lash list/space wolves/ protected. Alot of people play mech, so no harm in being good against mech, I could just sit on objectives, the four able-to capture land raiders sitting on objectives, denying anything from contesting it. I see most armies having trouble with it, except DE, I see them reasonably tabling it on turn 3.

yeah oh my would DE have fun with that...

the problem is there isn't much of a threat other than the landraiders.. anyone who brings a reasonable amount of melta weapons is going to cripple you quickly, your able to threaten the tanks. but after that lascannons fired on tactical marines?

basically your going to rape ...deamons.. and ..er.. orks...

anyone else smart enough to carry around some melta is gonna pop land raiders and ignore the useless inquisitors and storm troopers inside

DE would tear this list a new one... or anything with tons of meltas. Seeing as you'd MAYBE kill 1 disembarked squad a turn if they're out of cover... Would be hella fun to play tho, and a lot of people would just groan and facepalm at having to kill 7 LR's lol!

Well, DE is rarely played these days.
Therefore, I'd neglect to consider DE.
Orks will have a hard time vs. Landraiders.

How about my 16-20 Meltaguns at BS4 in my standard 1500-1750pt army? I haven't had a recent 2500pt list, so I have no idea how many I would have in such a list, but you can expect IG to just thrash this list.

Your army is perfectly legal! And is soooo cool. I have a pure dh army but mine is mostly gk. I only have one lr. You HAVE to take the gk hero to have the heavy support lr so you cannot change your list to remove him. The inquisitors are very weak i have found, but if you keep them inside their land raiders then this shouldnt be a problem.

Could be worth giving your inquisitors or some veteran guardsmen in their retinues flamers since this army will really struggle with hords. The stormtroops could have some flamer hw and be mounted in the land raiders. Then you could just do a 'drive by' with your inquisitors and stormtroopers and have the flamers stick out the top hatch and flame the hords to death. Most hordes cannot even hurt the lr so if you never disembarked theoretically they couldnt hurt you!

This tactic may make your friends and gaming buddies hate you so i wouldntsuggest using it every game.

My gk force would really struggle against this army as the only weapons i have that could damage the lr are my landraiders lascannons and some servitors with multi-meltas. If i say this army on the other side of the table i would just give up before i started

If this is THEME army, that’s one thing. Army looks cool. Should play pretty well.

I would drop the I Lord and his LR. As pointed out, He’s really not that good. Also, drop off the pscannon bolts and storm bolters. That leaves you with about 458. Buy the Elite Inquisitors a second mystic. – 18 points and now the LR can shoot a deep strikers… Far more fun for you.

440 = +2 Grey Knight Terminator HQ’s with double psycannon and maybe a hood. This will give your army some much needed Close combat ability. If you are concerned about the loosing the Anti-daemon edge, consider the rules for GK then make daemon assault you through DT then stab them dead with your super force weapons.

Plus you can get some special weapons for the storm troops. Consider using the storm Troopers to buffer back deep strickers (sub 6” melta shots). Use the Mystic land raiders to overlap area coverage in case double melta gun shots are better than the LR shooting at them.

Hrmm... I already have one, but anyway the other advice is ok. I just don't want to lose another landraider

Should I drop the Inquisitor Lord, as suggested, and his land raider, all the upgrades, boost the brother-captain to full on chapter master with a terminator retinue? I could even make it a crusader with more termies if I drop a storm troopers squad...

i would switch half (3 or 4) of your land raiders to crusaders with mm's

balances your anti infantry out.

why the full squads of storm troopers also?

make them smaller, and use the extra points to add something to them ...like a melta of some kind?

Like hell, if I knew ahead of time I'd run DE specifically for this reason lol!

The other main problem I see with this list is how slow it would kill things... yeah, it'd face stomp mech lists for the most part, but things like Termicide, Chainfist termis, Meltavets, etc. would also have a pretty easy time with this list. And it would be VERY hard to maneuver 7 land raiders without blocking each others LOS, or getting funneled by terrain like buildings, or many other things lol.

But yeah, if orks faced this list, they should probably reach over and shake your hand. This games good as over lol

Well, moving forward a LR wall looks scary.
It should have enough fire power to deal with the closest threats,
like Veterans with meltas in Chimeras or Termies with chain fists.

Problem is you'll probably only see a unit (maybe) with 3-4 lascannons, depending on position. This isn't assuming cover. And heavy bolters many things get saves from (excluding the IG guys haha). I'd honestly just kamikaze the wall and take down what I could quickly. But 2500 pts there will be a lot of stuff on the field, so even killing 1 unit a turn is too slow!

that list is just wrong man, funny but cruel, and orks can take that, a few squads of 30 boys with nobs/PK and warboss with PK gives you a 30 wound warboss/nob unit...S9/S10 attacks, you can do it, theres not enough firepower in the army to drop all the boyz fast enough

In objective based missions, Orks will have a hard time taking on all those moving fortresses.
Even with S9 or S10, they will hit on 4+ or 6+ if the tank moved.

I would lose one LR and try to get some anti infantry of some sort, at the very least enough troopers with flamers to fill all the LR's

otherwise, funny list

I think bugs would have a problem with it as well

The strength of the list comes from the number of LR's.
I'd keep them.

Cant you Allies with Normal marines too? If so replace a couple LR with Redemers and Crusaders... gives you more options .... ap3 flamers and meltas...

Heh, the 'nids with MC's would destroy this, they roll 2d6 for armor pen...
As for the troop choices, I just realized something I could do, switch in bare minimum tac/scout squads to get a few points, though it is more humiliating to lose to pure DH...

Ahah great I love it.

Id swap 3 of them for crusaders though to give you alot more needed horde killing power.
