Few questions from a newer player...

1. Ive been runing my PMS in ten mans, generally 2-4 squads in 1500 to 1850 lists, I see people running more squads in grps of 7 and even 5, which is better really? and how does play change when you have more squads that are smaller?

2. Ive been running my PMS pretty much un-mechd, just trudging accross the field and shooting/ assaulting from cover

3. ive been playing my nurgle list waiting for the enemy to come to me, is this the general accepted method or should i be more aggressive,

4. i do well enough but against more experienced players i feel like they are very aggrssive and i do less well.. and drop pod armies screw with my head a bit lol any tips are welcome

Well the rule of thumb is a seven man squad of plagues survive just as well as ten man squads of CSMs and also since nurgles number is seven. I would also say being more aggressive with them would work better in terms of going for objectives and holding them. In order to do so they need to be in rhinos and what i have seen done is to tank shock your opponent off objectives then disembark.

One last thing running them in squads of ten is a very viable option to run these guys so dont worry about that.

ahhhh tank shocking , i hadnt thought of that...

so basically just jack objectives and then sit on them, counting on FNP and T5 to live it out...?

and in kill games just spread out and kill targets? run the whole force up the middle?

Well you either do that or sit in the tank on top of the objective and wait until someone blows it up. I prefer getting out claim objective with the squad and sending rhinos on suicide missions of tank shocking or ramming. It makes the game fun for you and your opponent to use different tactics like this. Last you could get out and use your rhinos as cover for your guys on your vulnerable side also.

Got a question for you how do you usually kit out your plagues?

i use reg CSM models and painted them plague marine style/ ive been running ten man squads with either 2 meltas or 2 flamers with a powerfist champ as well

i also like to run my HQs as sorcerors with MON and ROT so i get a initiative 5 forceweapon OR a chaos lord with Daemon weapon ( same idea)

the main thought being that my HQ is protected by being connected PM squad and the High initiative of the Lord ( or Sorc) helps make up for my PMs swinging at Initiative 3

it means that i siwng first, and last in combat so my PMs arent having to make quite so many saving throws and FNP

1. You wanna keep squads smaller because, if they get assaulted, do you really wanna stay locked in? Also its cheaper, so you get points to throw elseware. and when you don't NEED more than 5 to get 2 special weapons its generally a better idea.

2. All marines are best in rhinos. Being able to get up into your opponents face is always good, especially squishier armies like IG. Also, your super susceptible to things like Battlecannons otherwise

3. I'm aggressive with all my armies typically, putting your foe on his heels is always a good way. keeping pressure on makes people make mistakes. Also, many armies can beat you in the range game lol

4. Drop pod armies (other than Space Wolves) shouldn't be much of a problem. Just wait for em to drop and shoot up the squad like you normally would. Drop pods really aren't an issue. And if its space wolves... you NEED to mech up at that point lol. Having your PM's get assaulted by a full grey hunter squad w/ wolfkin and 2 power weapons is never a good thing!

Hope that helps out

I'd take units of 7 PM's with 2 special weapons of the same type and mount them into Rhinos.
Four such units should suffice.
Add 6 Obliterators and 2 DPs.

8 or 10 men in a squad...does not made big differences. But more squads bring you more fists and special weapons.

A squad of 5 is too small. At least, they must keep some ability to absorb some power weapon attacks.

I would say 7 or 10 both 'work'. There is a little wiggle room where 'taste' is involved.
Otherwise, what Wuestenfux has said.

Rhino's are awesome and pairs of weapons are four times better.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Shame on the unfluffy Rhino players

You should have 7 man squads and walk directly towards the enemy over open ground before destroying them utterly

I usually sit a 7 man PM squad in cover and/or on an objective. They are hard to shift and can mostly look after themselves without you having to worry too much about supporting them.

Hey, some people play Nurgle and others play Deathguard.
They are two different things.

In addition, fluff is what you make it.
Certainly there is a charm to 7 man squads, being fluffy and an economical number.

im new to the game entirely, so what is the main dif between a death guard army and nurgle again?

i understand that its an army in the story but is it just that or is there a dif codex?

Nurgle is the god of decay. Death Guard are the remains of the SM legion which fell to the worship of Nurgle during the great war.

@Sanctjud - a good point. I just always associate the two as PM's are almost always described to be Death Guard.

What sancjud and wustenfux both have suggested is something to go with as i respect both their opinions and silver brings the opposite side of the spectrum which could also work. It is all a matter of what your playstyle is and testing out which you like better. Everyone here is telling you what works for them and/or what works well for others.

Basically:

All Deathguard are plague marines.
All Plague marines are not Deathguard.

All Ultramarines are Space Marines.
All Space marines are not Ultramarines.

All Morale tests are leadership tests.
All Leadership tests are not morale tests.

See, like that.

See Nurglitch's correction two posts below.

Arrrggg, I wanted all those Alls in a column...WHY YOU KILL IT NURGLITCH!!!??!?!

I always used 7 man squads with 2 melta and a champ w/powerfist and a combi-melta., make sure that you put them in a rhino. Deathguard are great in CC, even though they go last, but you will survive long then any other chaos or space marines.

Correction:

All Death Guard are Plague Marines
Not all Plague Marines are Death Guard

All Ultramarines are Space Marines
Not all Space Marines are Ultramarines

All Morale checks are Leadership tests
Not all Leadership tests are Morale checks

Remember your quantifiers: All, not all, some, and not any.
