Hey, i recently got my leman russ, and another box of 10 cadians so i thought i'd mix some bits up and make a veteran looking squad, here are some pics.

Here's the Russ

Also, my new commissar, and using parts from the cadian sprue, and Leman russ tank commander, i made myself a master of ordnance.

And lastly, a group shot

Does anyone know any good boxes that have some varied heads for a good veteran look?

The Chaos Horsemen from Fantasy are used a lot, from what I have seen. Check the bits websites to get just the head you were looking for, tho.

I really like but they could be so much better if you cleaned of the trim and mould lines. Really nice work though. Now get them painted.

Inboud...

Looking good! You've done an excellent job of kitbashing so far.

A couple of tips for you; try combining kneeling legs with missile launching troops, gives them an air of believability.
If you have one spare, give the MoO a radio backpack- it'll tie in nicely with the auspex and headset.
Give them extra ammo and equipment- mounting a shotgun on the side of a backpack can look particularly effective. Remember- if the lasgun has a bayonet fixed, you don't want another in the sheath!
Hope these help, take them as friendly tips, not criticism!

Finally, if you're willing to shell out FW does respirator heads and upgrade packs that work well in distinguishing Veterans.

Good call on the Vox-caster backpack on the master of ordnance, i have a few spare and it does make it look better.

I have a question, if i were to add a commissar to a command squad, would i take one person out or would it be a 6 man squad?

edit: Same question for master of ordnance, im trying to work out where to distribute my upper ranked guys, between a veteran squad and a command squad

edit again: How does it work if i have a guy holding a missile launcher, does it count as one guy or a heavy weapon squad?

Yes and yes. They count as additional squad members. But I don't think they can go in regular veteran squads--the only upgrades to those squads I know of are Gunnery Sgt. Harker and Sgt. Bastonne

Nice kitbashes btw

when i said distributing, i meant whether i should put, lets say a flamer in my command squad, or would the commissar take his place meaning i could put him in a veteran squad instead.

edit: In other words, does the command squad exceed 5 members if i put commissars/regimental advisors in it?

Oh, and here are some new pictures.

Cadian with scoped lasgun.

Veteran Sergeants new backpack. (it's a trimmed down vox-caster back with a gun glued to the side and a purity seal hanging off)

Master of Ordnance - redone.

Also, i redid my veteran with double bolt pistols, i've given him a catachan head from a heavy weapons teams, a backpack and hanging off are a sword, binoculars and grenades, i may play him as Sly Marbo, though he's wearing some cadian gear...

I still have some cleaning up to do on them before i prime and paint them, but i don't have any primer at the mo, so there's no rush.
