I bought the wood elf codex yesterday for full retail price. Impulse buy... dam you!

Haha.
I'm still holding steady - I said I would spend *less* this year, and I'm still at ZERO.
Of course, that's going to change when C: BA and WFB8 come out, along with me finalizing my SM/ CSM army lists...

The easy way to avoid paying anything from GW, obviously don't go in their store or on their site.
As one of my local independent stockist shut this week, the options are reducing. They were great all GW models 10% cheeper, propably why they closed.

I've stopped caring. GW won't feel it either way, they won't really care if you buy or not because there are a lot more people who will, and even if their profits took a hit they're going to do what they want to do regardless. It won't make them stop sending C&Ds or gaking on their fanbase, if anything it'll just make them raise prices even higher.
That said I still haven't bought much of anything for the past six months, but I'll have to eventually since I need a couple of direct-only models and I can't keep playing at the store for free...

Seriously. You and the rest of you ladies should throw down and buy a couple of shares of GW's stock. Forget the boycott talk, get in line with the rest of the little piggys....
If you all wanted to, why don't we all get some and start a power block of the company. We get a few shares here and there, pool together and see where it takes us?
We don't have to buy them all at once, we could get a little by little and make our presence known.
If anything, we could push an idea or two and get paid in the process while we B and M about the prices.
This is going to be a very good year for them.
You heard it here first.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Near as I can tell, Codex prices are just about written in stone. It doesn't seem to make much of a difference price-wise where you buy - best you'll get discounted ia maybe a couple of bucks.
Models, on the other hand, now that's where you might want to feel a twinge of guilt paying retail.

Shares are worthless. Even if you owned a significant amount of them you wouldn't have any real influence. At least that's how I understand it.

I meant this as a bit of a joke... I was very happy to get the codex
However, I had intended any "new" miniature purchases this year to go toward trying other/small company's miniatures, to get some variety and try new things. I'll still be trying to do this, but also be a little more modest in my expectations (I will, of course, be buying the new fantasy rulebook when it comes out, too!).
Cheers,

When I build an army in earnest, then I'll purchase the book for it, second hand from the interwebs.
People can spend their money as they wish, I have made the decision to withhold mine from GW until it mends it's ways to my satisfaction as a consumer. If you don't share the view that the company has behaved in a bad way, then carry on buying, if you do feel the company has acted abysmally and yet are still buying from them because you can't be bothered to source things or wait for things... Well that's just between you and your conscience.
The current Wood Elf army book is on Ebay with a buy it now price of £8.49 vs GW's price of £15... Frankly decide for yourself...

My conscience isn't affected. Nothing GW has done has affected me, as a gamer or as a consumer. If I need something that GW has then I will buy from them or buy their product from another reseller.
There is no need to feel guilty about buying from GW just as there is no need to justify your buying habits.

I like this idea, I really, really do. A lot of people would need to join in, and then we'd all need to get organised and agree on what changes to push for collectively, but done right it could work.
Btw, i haven't 'officially joined the boycott, but I haven't bought anything this year and the way things are going I probably won't. I'm just not interested in the things they're releasing.

I am still at zero, with the exception of one WD for a painting article. My money has gone into Tamiya, Academy models and some from Raging Hereos.
It is quite liberating getting off the new army must have latest model band wagon. Have to admit, 2+ months so far and now actually considering giving up the GW thing. Enjoying myself far more outside of it.
|
2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games. |

Ha ha.
To paraphrase Oscar Wilde.
"You can resist everything - but temptation."
That's the problem with people these days. No stick-to-it-iveness or tenaciousness (these have gotta be real words, I've heard too many Americans using them to think otherwise). You make a pact, you stick to it, it's the principle of the thing.
I'm switching games for a few years. GW will see zero money from me for the next two years. Then again, I spend less than $100 per year so I doubt they'll miss it. Little Timmy's dad will drop $1k to assuage some misguided guilt thing over the divorce and the beancounters will laugh all the way to the bank.

This is true... I'm guessing because it's really what you wanted to do after all. If I was Really done with GW, I wouldn't buy... but despite their business practices, I love their product, and the availability of it and people who play it.
But I'm still going to be looking for other means to support different companies... such as where I get the bag to carry my army, limiting the purchase of "new" GW figs, etc.
