My buys this year will be some dark elves for my wife, which will be at 30% off, so no lost sleep there.

Unfortunately, I can only get the 2 razordons and 6 terradons I need directly from GW and at a cost of some $140+. I won't be happy about that.

Are you unhappy at Giving GW the money or spending $140? Do they have to be GW products?

I'm not trying to call you out on it, just interested to know.

I'm unhappy at the pricing to begin with. I'm somewhat of a GW loyalist when it comes to models, but only since I like armies that are all by the same maker as it keeps scales fairly similar(not saying GW doesn't have scaling issues, but usually they are the same scale per army more or less, zombie hands not included).

If the models were decent enough and a much better price then I would likely go with alternatives.

2 reasons for always buying from a 3rd party:
I prefer to give the profit above cost to someone who runs a game store. Even if they only make a few dollars after the discount, I'd rather put a roof over someones head than raise a corporations stock by .001 points(not a realist number I know). The few times I do pay full pop it's at a local game store and NEVER at GW. Alot of this has to do with their trying to bully out other retailers from the internet altogether, as seen with their ban of online shopping cart sales by third parties and their laughable attempt to stifle ebay sales of new boxes.
They also make certain models ONLY available thru them, forcing me to give the roughly 35% profit to them instead of a local game store.

Secondly, GW NEVER offers discounts online. free shipping on orders over $100? oh wow, thanks for the $5. thewarstore has flat rate shipping of $6. For a company so hell bent on beating down their own retailers they really don't offer any incentive to buy direct. The only reason to buy from GW is for the models that they don't let anyone else distribute, which is total gak.

Prices will go up yes, I get that. I find it sad that what I pay for a boxed set now with a 30% discount is the same I payed full price 10 years ago. Hell, the space marine force I built last year cost me $337 w/ shipping by using ebay and third party discounts. That same force would have cost me $650 if I bought it from GW. Someone made a profit and they were happy with it, otherwise they wouldn't have offered such a discount. GW is just too greedy at times for me to justify giving them my money.

In closing, if you have decent alternatives for terradons and razordons I'd love to see them, although I'd still use GW skinks to maintain uniformity in my army.

Not a bean yet.
That said I just moved into a new place (deposits, setup fees etc), MOT'd, insured and taxed my car and paid for repairs.

I am a poor bunny. Although it's quite good as it gives me time to assemble/paint the huge pile of stuff I'm yet to get to.
I'm also doing a fair bit of scenery, which is nice.

I didn't make an oath, but the new bugs are starting to grow on me. And the fact that I could dip an entire Nid army in a weekend is eating away at me.

Must resist...must resist...finish my orks and raven guard first....

if you resist anything, resist the urge to dip anything ever.

Personally, I've only bought one new GW miniature since I finished my previous edition Alpha Legion army back in 2006.

Well dipping can look good on Nids, IMO.

You guys are funny, what will you all do when 2010 is GW's most profitable year ever? 2 very popular Xeno codex releases, Blood angels, Fantasy 8th edition, 8th edition Fantasy starter box, and the Battle Missions in march which will have a ton of splash releases. That's just what we have confirmed from rumors, so their is potential for a lot more.

Hey look a fanboy.

What will we do during their fanboy heralded best year ever? Decidedly not be a part of it. Not everyone is interested in the few things being released this year.

I don't think you need to call Linkdead a "fanboy".

He is completely correct that, Dakka and the other gripe sites could claim to conduct a boycott which may not be successful due to a solid product release schedule, further marginalizing the message that GW's strategy is wrong.

They'll probably feel better for all the money they saved to buy more worthwhile things.

I think belittling anyone who chose to boycott GW products is idiotic and offensive.

I'm sorry I consider this on par or actually worse then those stupid "no one buy gas on this day!" emails that circulate emails every summer.

Your supposed to be spending your money on stuff that makes you happy, this is a freaking hobby. Don't boycott your own hobby that's really the stupidest thing you could do. Your in essence boycotting your own enjoyment. If you really loathe GW then stop playing their games and purchasing their products based on your displeasure with them as a company.

Face the simple fact that no matter what you do you can't change GW. Enjoy what you can or GTFO.

Unless of course the actions and attitude of the company responsible for said hobby is making you not so happy, like a lot of Blood Bowl players.

But hey, continue saying what you want to say without looking at all the sides. It's cool.

Mcvities stopped making United biscuits (years ago admittedly)should I stop eating their digestives or rich tea? Anyone know what a united is? anyone? ah come on.

Poor biscuit references aside, isn't there a danger that this particular matter will strain relationships on Dakka. Pro or anti boycott is in neccesary to keep posting about purchases and non purchases? wouldn't twitter be of better service?

It seems that the veterans, who would probably look for new gaming and model fixes , are taking the stand and Newbies, who haven't been around much are very much pro GW 'why the hate'? etc

I think people are free to buy or not buy GW product as they see fit. I am happy buying my Nid army at the moment. So long as no one belittles my choice, I see no need to tell them what to do. Live and let live.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!
