What would you do if you got hired by GW?
this is not a discussion about how GW is broken and we need to stop the codex spam bla bla bla...
but what you would do to make GW better.
personally I would set up a bits service (we all need this back i think), and try to provide more outreach for the fanbase.

I'd probably start up a QA/QC group to do things like playtesting and proofreading, with an emphasis on consistency in design & layout.

Revert the website to something less gakky where I can actually find what I want. Reinstate Black Gobbo.

Pretty much this
But with an optimistic outlook:
Do far, far, far more specialized scenarios. Bring back the army book specific scenarios like "Halt the Ritual" or the ever-classic Piscina one from the early Dark Angels Codex(featuring Sergeant Naaman!), things of that nature.
Kill-Team comes back, in a big way.
Tournaments lose their focus on 1v1 and move towards more of a campaign/combined forces aspect. Hidden objectives come back. Composition *matters*, outside of deciding if you win or not.
And that's just off the top of my head.

I'd work on a series of codices and army books that would make all of you empty your wallets buy models for.
Rule 1: Sell more Lead!
It's still a good rule.)
It would probably make a whole mess of the 'metagame', but nothing sells more lead like new armies. Incorporate FW models into the rules where ever possible. Wouldn't be hard to find books to republish:
- Lost and damned with emphasis on the cults, renegades, etc.
- Chaos Legions of specific powers
- An ork book with some variant army lists dealing with the clans, KoS, and freebooters.
- Kroot Mercs and Human Auxilaries
Make sure there are some new plastic conversion kits that make you buy lots of models to convert for your new projects.
Put emphasis back on Apocalypse with a big FAQ, and a new book with missions and scenarios to play out.
Make sure that some codices get redone quickly: Inquisition, DE, Necrons.
If all that got done, i'd retool squats completely and bring them back. Skip any Viking or norse feel. Go with a combination of master mechanics, bad boy bikers, and a definitely feel of the american southwest. Flat hats and long coats. Cigars. Total mercenaries.

I'd happily be employed in their new casual gamers playtesting scheme that I just made up.

Given GW's payscale compared to similar jobs at other companies I'm guessing I'd do very little to make a difference there. I'd do the minimum needed to impress my superiors so I could keep my job until I didn't want it anymore. GW doesn't pay enough for me to invest myself. I save that for my self-employed endeavors, managing my rental units, contract work and whatnot. I'm no one's wage slave and I have a feeling that GW is looking for good little servitors.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

According to the internet the average GW wage is $21,000 or £12,903 or 14,810euros. I'm sure that Jervis skews the average a bit though!

I would bring back rapid fire dice, separate invulnerable saves, mid-level characters and all the other little details that made second edition so awesome. Then I would switch the whole game system to D10, make space marines twice as good but also twice as many points, give all Orks FNP, make all Eldar skills and stats except for S and T 5's at the minimum, and most of all, bring back movement as a stat, damnit!!! And I would include a can of mountain dew in all box sets. And a candy bar in each battleforce. I don't care if I'm qualified or not, after all, is their really a degree in playing with toy soldiers?

Lots of part-time store workers that may only work 8-16 hours a week balances out the few big studio "rock stars" that they may have. Also, some compensation may be hidden by giving out bonuses instead of straight pay. Also, it's possible some of the staff are technically 'contractors', which is another way things could be paid from a different pocket.
But, yeah, don't go into starting or working at a game company for the money, from what I hear.

About a decade back, a GW Canada guy saw some of my terrain at a tournament. He told me they needed some sort of hobby guy to make terrain, paint demo forces for stores, and so on. When he told me what it paid, I almost burst out laughing.
I would have had to relocate to Mississauga, Ontario. At the time Ontario had a lower minimum wage than where I was living. The end result was they wanted someone to relocate across the country for less per hour than what I could get locally at minimum wage.
There might be some money to be had in middle management, but that's also where they'll cut people first when the axe falls. GW strikes me as a company where upper management are lifers and that there's probably little opportunity to ever get real responsibility.
Never work for money, but if you're not getting anything else out of a job, make sure it pays until you can find a better one.
But I was wrong. There is a job I would take on a contract basis:
The only job I would want from GW would be "Worldwide Volunteer Coordinator."
Harnessing the best rules minds to proofread and ask questions before things go to print. Finding talented writers to come up with stories and articles. Running a blog made up of fan contributions (I'd probably call the blog "Citadel Journal"). Basically finding valuable things for GW for free among their most dedicated fans.

I actually have an application form (since November I think) here, but I have yet to fill out any sections. I'll probably wait until after all my time isn't drained away by education
Not sure but I think what will happen is at around the 5 year mark a mental breakdown after I see the billionth Space Marine box sold for that day. By then though, I'd expect there would be little else..
I guess if I could manage to work up high enough maybe try getting Lost and the Damned back (never seen them but 40k zombie army sounds cool) and maybe creating interest in supporting Adeptus Mechanicus. Of course clearer rules would be nice and if the Space Marines were condensed into a single book.
But, I really don't know? Work for money like every other paying job?
