never really thought about it until now.

Why warhammer?

In Fantasy, the Warhammer was the weapon of choice or something for that Empire Leader Sigmar, Gharl Marz IIRC, so it became the symbol for the game. Now with 40k, take the fantasy, throw in sci-fi, there you go, same company, easy game association.

That's my bet.

Korea (South, of course!)

When I first heard about "Warhammer 40,000", I had assumed that it was the same fantasy world used in "Warhammer", but far in the future.

I thought it was really cool idea.

But then it turned out that my assumption was totally wrong... :(

but why does it have to based around a weapon of war. It could have been like...

The emperor or something...

The emperor strikes back?

Attack of the nids?

Gharl Marz? Is the Empire really a thinly disguised Socialist state?
Wow.

Maybe 40k should be renamed Dictatorship of the Proletariat 40'000.

Well, it's basically Feudalism 40'000 as it stands. We can but hope that one day we'll all reach True Communism 40'000.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Warhammer (fantasy) was written first. Probably named Warhammer after the whole Sigmar thing.

Warhammer 40,000 was originally VERY similar rules to Warhammer Fantasy. It's the 'Warhammer' GAME in space, not the 'Warhammer' setting.

The picture on the rulebook is of a Thunderhammer. Thunderhammer is basicly the sci-fi version of the Warhammer, so it makes sense and is easy to identify brand wise.

EDIT: IF ANYONE MAKES A GAME CALLED "COMBAT WRENCH" I WILL PLAY IT!

Nope, 40k came first. StarCraft stole a lot from 40k. Then again nothing in Sci-Fi is really original anymore.
