i saw the most stereotypical nerd playin 40k today. He looked about 20, sorta chubby, white, glasses, braces (he was way too old for braces), mushroom cut and he had really poorly kept/painted tau with worse strategy...

Why shouldn't it be called Warhammer? It builds on Rick Priestly's earlier game Reaper and since it is a wargame and set in a fantasy location then the war part makes sense and the hammer part makes me think of medieval warfare which more-or-less sets the scene.

It's the same with 40K. Initally the game was simply going to be Rogue Trader but since it was linked to the Warhammer universe at the time they threw in the Warhammer 40,000 tag at the last minute to tie both games together.

I heard that they were promising a sci-fi prouduct called "rogue trader" for ages, they decided that Warhammer 40k fit better and the name stuck, however, they just had to please the fans and carry out their promise, so they added the rogue trader line underneath.

Maybe 40k should be called, "War stared by a skeletal dead guy on a golden toilet against all xenos guys set in the year 40,000 or somewhere close to that time period."?

it sometimes bugs me that the staple army has to be marines. I think they should all of the sudden come out with a new race like with the tau and their sudden appearance

Sigmar saved a Dwarf King from being torn apart by Orks, so Dwarf-man makes Sigmar an uber spiffy hammer. Like, that can kill an army with one swing. Then they are bestest buddies for ever.

I think it's called Warhammer for the same reason an XBox is called an Xbox (just an example). Why not call it Warhammer?

one day, in a state of depression, a gamemaker/tester went to the inn and got torn a new one by the innkeepers hammer.

from that day on, it was called smasherhammer 40,000.

later improoved to warhammer 40,000.
