I've been playing 40k for 5+ years now, but things in my life have moved to the point where 40k is no longer an option. I'm selling both my fantasy army (the one I've never publicly said I've never had) and my favorite Salamanders :(. Once I'm in a better position I'd love to move to an IG army, but thats still a year+ off. Being the old head in my group, do you think that selling my stuff to someone else but still organizing stuff makes me a traitor to the hobby?

Hi.
You may be a 'traitor' to GW PLC for not continuing to buy thier stuff forever, AND stopping someone else from buying thier stuff by selling your armies second hand.
Seriously though. If you still enjoy promoteing and supporting others in the hobby how can you think of yourself as being a trator?
If you dont have the time -resuorces to run battles games like WHFB and 40k, why not try out some skirmish games to keep you going? There are plenty of free to down load games on the internet.

If Salamanders are your favorite one why not keep them? You said you might move on to IG if it gets better, but wouldn't it be easier to just have an army waiting around for you then?
I don't consider it as being a traitor at all, you'll just be following a different aspect of the hobby for a while.

I think everyone has starts and stops in their hobbying, you're not a "traitor" to anyone, you don't owe anyone anything do you? My hobbying virtually ground to a halt when at University. Unless you're particularly desperate for the money, perhaps you should pack the stuff away for the time being. You don't want to regret selling it all later.

Well actually I'm selling them because I just moved into a MUCH smaller space, and because May will be my 1 year with my gf, and I wanna take her to Vegas, and hopefully Ill be coming back engaged. Selling my army just paid for half the trip. Thanks for the support guys, and I'll still be around here

If you're going to Vegas you can skip the whole 'engaged' part and get hitched there, saving yourself the money on a wedding, and keeping your precious Salamanders where they should be.

Well,
here are three jokes for you:
(1) Maybe your girlfriend/fiance likes painting minis......heh heh heh.... so you can recruit another loyalist!
(2) Sell that army and have a real life!
(3) If you have a decent job at one stage, and a good sized hobby table its easy to return to the hobby once the amorous side of life takes its inevitable middle age decline.....
That you post to ask us if its ok that you sell your army, cos you need the money for.....
Man, this is too wierd! Its only a game isn't it, you dont need permission from us to do something slightly actually SERIOUS with your life.
Enjoy Vegas. Since you are speaking of marraige, we trust you actually have already sorted a career!
OTG.

Why are you selling your armies off? I'd at least keep some of your models for nostalgia's sake. Everyone who comes back into the hobby regrets selling off their old armies. I can understand why you're taking a break - after so long it can sometimes get tiresome, and your personal life can take precedence. Just put your stuff in a box and keep it in your attic for a few years - when you want to come back, it'll be nice to still have an army, for old time's sake. Better than dropping $300+ on the same models in a few years.

I think he said he already sold it off.
Anyways, anyone willing to be an organizer (especially if they don't have an army themselves) can be a huge asset to the hobby, though if you don't play your rules judging will go downhill sharply.

you've got to be kidding. Life and interest comes first than a stupid game with stupid models. If you still play and have fun with them even just organizing events and battles that makes NO TRAITOR.
You play for your friends not for the damn game.

How can you be a traitor to something that has no laws?
And no, leaving the hobby means nothing of the sort. In general it means you have matured and found a better game, or a better life.
You aren't a traitor, you are a person of free will. The idea that you would be a traitor to a HOBBY is about as ridiculous as I can imagine. Anyone who would suggest it should be beaten to death with a cold squid.

That's a really sad point in your life when 40k is no longer an option.
I can only think about a few reasons for this (prison, illness, marriage?).
