Vallejo, better price/amount ratio + comes in a dropper bottle.

My order for the vallejo extra opaque heavy paint set should arrive next week, I can't wait to try them out!

The only GW paints I use these days are the foundation ones, everything else are the Valejo. Huge selection and keep a lot better than GW...

Vallejo is generally better but GW has some outstanding colors and of course the washes.

There's such a large disparity between GW's regular paints and their Foundation/Washes that the GW option should really be two entries.

I like GW a lot more. Every Valejo I have ever used has been gritty and also liable to break up when over-painted. I just use them for basing now.

If we're including GW Foundation and Washes, I vote GW.

Depends on the colour in question, both ranges have their uses.

Valejo has a much nicer range of paints. How many does GW have now? Not enough to really do a good job painting in my opinion anyway.

3500 pts Black Legion
3500 pts Iron Warriors
2500 pts World Eaters
1950 pts Emperor's Children
333 pts Daemonhunters

I use both but I get the Vallejo equivalent whenever I can. The dropper bottles are a lifesaver.

If you haven't tried Vallejo yet you should. My Vallejo yellow is a very nice vibrant shade, and seems to cover much nicer than the GW yellows do.

I use GW washes and foundations (sparingly) but as I pick up new paints I find myself heading to the model color or game color (two vallejo ranges) racks far more than the GW.

Just ignore the washes and foundations option since it wont let me change it again

But the foundations and washes serve a different purpose than other paints. They're not better than Vallejo paints, they just have different uses.

Still part of the paint range though?

Looking forward to when GW redo their standard line. Washes and Foundations are a result of hiring Chemists, 'Eavy Metal giving them a wishlist of properties, and then getting them made to the wishlist specification. Assuming this is done for the standard range, they should be equally bloody brilliant.

GW wins with washes in my opinion, Vallejo can get the rest of the job done

Wow so it seems Valejo is in the league, and I must agree the Gw paints just dont seem that great at times. especially the metallics, Im a huge fan of the foundation and washes though awesome stuff!!!!

Everything's got a use and a place on the paint desk. I use a lot of vallejo for base tones/establishing values, then P3 and GW for base colors and layering/highlighting, P3 inks and GW washes for shade tones and variant effects. It's not that any one range is better or worse.

In general, vallejo model colour is a lot of really great earthy tones; GW standard range has a lot of good 'fantasy' colors like bright primary colors and work well for layering, P3 is a middle ground between GW and vallejo.

The only ranges that rarely see use in my projects are GW Foundation and Washes. Foundation's too thick and I find that vallejo model colour does the basecoat / natural colors job better, and the washes are far too subtle. I'm too used to working with inks and being able to get lots of effects out of them to use something as one-dimensional as the wash.

I still have a couple Polly S pots too, and even a jar of Tamiya metallic blue that come out every once in a while, but my holy grail is two and a half pots of Chestnut Ink!

If possible, Ill move to 100% Vallejo paints. Personally, I find GW paints dry way too quick and feel to "runny".

If you're one of them more professional painters, then Vallejo are much better for mixing water\additives and washing\mixing colours.

Here in Australia, Vallejo pots are $5 and GW are $6. You get 2ml more with Vallejo.

Reaper paints are very good too. Mmm Reaper.

I'v always looked at GW as a business that believe in lots of money rather then pleasing their fans so I try not to buy from them if possible. I spend money on Eldar, but other then that I always go to other companies for mini's and paints.

I enjoy Reaper Master Series Paints. Never used Vallejo. I don't care for the GW ones in the flip tops. I strongly prefer droppers as they don't dry out as quickly.

Reaper is great ,but between GW and vallejo it comes down to the Model line for vallejo. The Game colors are pretty damn much the same except with vallejo you get a little more at 3.7ml at $3 something a bottle to GW's 3.2 ML at $4.25 a bottle. The vallejo Model line though really blows GW out of the water.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

+1

VMC are hard to beat. I do like the Reaper paints, too, and they have some interesting colors. Plus, I got them on a clearance deal :-)

I think the foundation paints are good for painters who don't really do layers. For more subtle work, it's not so hot.

Vallio does have good equvilant washes. the Model Air line works well with just adding water. the GW washers are the best, but the GW paints? forget it i'll stick with VMC VAC and VGC anyday.

Big Vallejo and Reaper MS paint fan. When I first switched it was not because of the paint quality to honest though. It was that I got more for less and I could easily get the paint out of the pot with a dropper vs. GW's flip top can. I found I was not wasting nearly as much paint that way.

The numbers on this poll say that most people prefer Valejo. They are just numbers though, you have to consider the source. Think of it this way - most people prefer valejo - do most people produce good miniatures and paintjobs? I'd say probably not. At the end of the day it's really up to you, whatever you find works best.

Personally I'd say you're not missing all that much by sticking to your mega paint set, but I'd reccomend picking up a few paints from other ranges to see what you think.
