I was thinking about taking Grey Knight allies... mostly so I could have the joy of painting such beautiful minis...

I assumed I'd need the codex so I went to look for it on GW's site...

It's not there?

Wharrdoido?!

Any tips on Grey Knight allies with guard? What do I want?

Reading the codex online and seeing that you can take Daemonhunters as allies... Could you combine your infantry squads as a guard player, then stick an Inquisitor Lord inside it as an IC... and choose to pass all morale checks?

That seems OP... But possible?

Both of the Inquisition codexes have been removed, IIRC.

There have been rumours for a while now that a combined Inquisition codex was on the planning table. So they would have stopped printing the current codexes, and simply stop selling them as they run out.

Yikes...

I don't think that will be the case, I mean, they've stopped selling SoB squads as a whole...

Are they phasing them out? Rats :<

At least you can still view them online... Was there only ever one Daemonhunters codex?

As far as i know there is only one. Check on amazon.com. That is where i got mine for $6 slightly worn. It has the inquisitor on the front with a daemonhammer in an epic swinging hammer pose.

Stopping selling the models may mean that they're being phased out. It may mean that new models are on the way with the new codex. It may just mean that they're being repackaged.

Witch Hunters struck me as a popular race...

Never seen Daemonhunters but I wouldn't have thought they'd be hard to keep going...

You just want the Terminators. Go to the local GW and try to find the codex, they're selling just what they have left in stock. I was lucky enough to pick up the last or second last Witch Hunters one from my local GW.

What are the Daemon Hunters, wait aren't they that really obscure army that nobody cares about, sort of like the mystic Dark Eldar of myth and leged?

According to Jervis they got 'carried away' when doing the Daemon/Witch Hunter Codices.

So I guess that means that they also 'carried away' my wallet when I put together entire Inquisitorial armies.

I dunno about Daemonhunters but I could swear there are a fair few Witch Hunter players out there?

The reason Deamonhunters are obscure is because they are more commonly know as "Codex: Gray Knights and friends"

I hope they're not being Phased out. I love the Inquisition but I was gonna wait for a new codex before I start a new army. Oh, and where do you read the codex online?

Just in case the legality is a little iffy (I am not an expert) just google 'Daemonhunters Codex'... It's the top link.

You can even find 5th edition codices up there.

If you're looking for inexpensive codices or models for either of the inquisitional armies, check out Bartertown (www.bartertown.com). There are always people looking to trade them off there.

Pretty much. Of the two players at my FLGS who play Daemonhunters, one of them never plays pure DH - usually just some GKs with a bunch of inducted IG. The other player plays combined Inquisition, running both Witch Hunters and Daemonhunters.

Also, they're obscure mainly because they're a 3rd Edition codex that they're obscure nowadays. The problem is, modern day units have gone way down in points cost since 3e, so it's much harder for older codices to keep up with newer ones through numbers. Although Dark Eldar is still pretty competitive at my FLGS...

Friends dont let friends play pure GK.. Im sure they'll return and perhaps not sucker new players into buying them.. who then promptly lose 100% of their games

I think that GW will be phasing these armies out to concentrate more on the more popular choices, such as the upcoming Blood Angels armies and doubtless other chapters, as Witchhunters and Daemonhunters were always fringe armies.

This is a shame, and probably a marketing mistake, as the presence of such a rich variety of forces will always draw peoples interest to a hobby regardless of whether or not they end up playing some of the quirkier armies.

To be honest they have themselves to blame. The Grey Knights have some spectacular figures but their codex was incredibly lightweight. Who wants to play an army who's codex encompasses all of 35 pages?

You mean, like everyone else? In third edition, Blood Angels had around 20 pages. Currently, they have 6(?) pages! Codex: Space Marines from that era was 40-odd pages. 35 is not small, in the context of its time. Orks and Space Wolves both recently went from being less-commonly played than the Inquisition armies, with smaller books, and are now among the most popular choices. Considering all the rumours of Codex: Inquisition this year, I kind of doubt they are dropping them.

I find its more like 50/50 unless you go over 2000 points and the more monstrous creatures the better, though I haven't played my GK's against the new nids yet
