The Tau Codex mentions that there are many alien species whom fight alongside the Tau either as Mercenaries or after having joined the "Greater Good".

The Tau Codex says that Kroot are the most common, and it also mentions Vespid.

But what of other races? What of Humans and many other random alien races. We know of the Gue'vesa but by know wouldnt an entire generation have passed, so those people should no longer fight like humans and by know have probably been all but assimilated into Tau culture, it would be cool to get more information on them... Do you think GW left Tau with only three(two in tau Codex, and the Gue'vesa) because they meant it that way or because they did not wish to develop new races. Wouldn't it be cool to get some information on the other Races in the empire?

I'm wondering if I missed something.... It just seems like in the codex they hint at Tau armies using vast amount of various Auxiliary but then they only give us the three.....

Never forget there are hundreds of other, smaller xeno species in 40k which don't get a mention. Allot were destroyed during the great crusade and they are still usually hunted by the Ordo Xenos, but aside from that there are still plenty out there. The only other tau auxiliaries ive heard of is a species very good at non-warp space travel (cant remember their name) and also i think they may have integrated a naga/fish race.

The Gue'vesa are descendants of IG units abandoned by the Imperium when it retreated at the end of the Damocles Crusade.

In the official timeline that is about 300 years ago.

According to fluff the Tau gave them machinery to build copies of Imperial equipment like lasguns.

Check the Apocalypse book, the first page or two in the Tau section has a fluff bit that includes the units that were included in a Tau invasion. I know they list two alien aux that I periously never heard of. I think one of them was called Morralian Shocktroopers. Unfortuantly this is the only place the two auxillaries are mentioned.

The BRB has some "minor" civilizations/races but never fleshes them out.
So why should a codex give you greater insight into the smaller civs ?

Maybe if they are part of the "rules", ie got models, there would be fluff too.
Seems fluff and models go hand in hand.

If GW decides to cramp more non-T'au into a T'au codex, some fluff will justify that.
Would not wait for that, too many different "races" would compete for attention and IMO a codex should not have more than 5
of them because that may lead to superfluffy overpriced units which got their diversity for the sake of beeing not a [ insert name of main contributing race of the army here ].
Or should those fluff-less xenos auxillaries be standardised with a basic statline and so you can have every thinkable type of
auxillary but they're just converted models without any special abilities to contribute to the T'au empire?

Actually, codex nids threatened ( per super autowin fluff ) every wellknown race and did mention the loss of several smaller civs.
Maybe some of your auxillaries were eaten?

And those races "joining" the T'au, but not contributing to the military ?
Any civilists aren't represented in this game of toy-Soldiers.

hehe
ya I get your point.

I just think it would be cool to get a run down of Tau auxs and even Tau races that are not militant.

I understand it would be bad to have a bunch of Races in the tau codex, weren't Kroot once their own Codex? It could be cool if GW made a "Minor Races" Codex, encompassing all minor militant races, and telling you which factions they can fight for.....

there isn't enough Tau fluff....(for me anyway)
Maybe if they ever get Abnett to make a Tau book, until then the only Tau book I know of is Fire Warrior, and I heard bad things about that....
Sadly there are so many races that deserve a book before Tau....

You mean like Vespid?

The Demiurg gave Ion cannon tech to the Tau and there are two clans of them in the Tau empire so... You're right though, it would confuse things too much to have too many races thrown in to the Tau: Empire, even though, fluffwise, they're the only ones that could pull it off.

I think GW thought Vespids were going to be a useful and popular battlefield unit and just got the rules wrong.

There is nothing to stop you using some variant models now and giving them a Tau statline just to add visual appeal to the army.

I am building a unit of Quar who will have the same rules as Kroot except I will let them have an armoured personnel carrier.

They should make a 40k Dogs of War codex. Lots of Auxileries, but for all the races. I'm sure I've heard of Aliens allying with both the Imperium and Chaos. I would definately have some Aliens in my force.

A Codex that encompass a large amount of minor races. Incl. instructions on which races can be used by which armies.

That would be a pretty cool codex.

It would not be hard to include a number of existing models from other armies, add a few new models, and bingo!

I couldn't imagine that it would be too difficult to make a codex with a small list for each of the races mentioned. Something with a similar layout and content to the capaign codexs would works. A couple of pages of fluff on each race (nothing in hugely in depth) a table about who you can ally with and which units can be used (only a few units should be able to ally), then a small list with a couple of units for each slot. Possibly some lists should be able to take units from other lists as elites / FA/ HS. The armoury should probably be shared with only basic stuff, like PW, PF, and a couple of standard alien weapons.

Sadly I don't think GW will ever make one, they wouldn't want to make the game too varied.

Never. The squats are doomed.
As for alien races, look on page 115 of "WARHAMMER 40,00", published in 1998/1999. On the bottom left side there is a simple diagram of about 7 different alien races.
In them, the kroot make an appearance, as well as necrons (though not by that name). Go for it. Especially "Clawed fiend of the donorian sector".

I was thinking about the idea of Auxiliaries and I think it would be wicked if GW actually came up with a set, set of rules for using auxiliaries of any kind...
That way they have similar statistics as they are using the base form of Tau tech.
