I do agree that the other WGA sets have an embarrassment of extras that you will be able to use, should you wish.
Also assuming one has the extra heads, customizing the Penal Legion with the headgear of their former team. So the grunt with the plasma gun was once a Raumjager, the leader was a former Les Grognard Grenadier, that fellow was kidnapped from 1870s Barvaria, and the close combat boy was one of Pizarro's conquistadors whose detachment was "lost" in the Andes (but really abducted by aliens, anally probed, then forced to fight in gladiatorial matches).

And as Perfect Organism pointed out earlier, a scope and rotary drum magazine is included to make two of the generic rifles into a special weapon.

This will be another fun base set for kit-bashing!

Aktshully, the Plasma gun is an Einherjar-pattern one. Meaning it was probably taken off a dead Norwegian Space Dwarf post-combat.

I believe Ancestral Hamster is proposing a Cannon Fodder trooper using a Raumjager head whilst carrying a plasma gun. That plasma gun could come from any of the ones available from the Cannon Fodder, Einherjar, Les Grognards or Raumjager kits.

I choose not to join in the speculation over what may or may not have happened to the former conquistador.

Yeah, we don't need plastic bits for that...

Love the idea that troops carry gear from their former unit!

I know I've got three boxes on the way so that's 90 models I can go to town on.

Maybe 40 pure Cannon Fodder?

20 Cannon Fodder modded with other Death Fields kits.

30 Blood Pact or Sons of Sek kitbashed with 40K bits.

Regardless, it's a good kit. Also, haven't seen anyone mention it, but it gives you 6 more men than other Death Fields infantry boxes.

My reply to your post about how this box sucks for those wanting it for 40K stated you get six more figures per box.

A bit of both really. As the rest of the post demonstrated, one can show an individual CF trooper's origins by using headgear from other kits. However, I misremembered where the Plasma gun came from, and thought it was from the Raumjager set. Since that's wrong, I agree with Wha-Mu-077 that it was probably looted from an Einherjar HW specialist. Maybe even just a few minutes ago ... our doomed Cannon Fodder team getting a lucky break, and the former Raumjager eagerly taking up his preferred weapon. {Of course, things are choreographed for the viewing audience. It will look like the Cannon Fodder team will pull off the upset of the season, and they'll think they'll survive, only to have have the kid gloves pulled off, and the Cannon Fodder will be trapped and incinerated so no revival is possible. A cruel object lesson for the rest of Death Fields troopers about disappointing their alien masters.}

Wow, okay, so I'm the only person in the world who thinks "GW doesn't make rules for it" is not a good reason to leave options out of a non-GW kit

We've been discussing over the last couple of pages why the Cannon Fodder kit may be the way it is.

Suggestions include:

1. Deliberate design choice reflecting that, for Death Fields, lack of kit reflects the background that the Cannon Fodder are there to die not win. Why waste time giving them lots of kit.

2. Deliberate design choice reflecting that less options on the sprue gives you more troops (an extra six per box) for the buyer's money. Considering the Cannon Fodder may end up being a cheaper horde army in any future Death Fields game, this is a good thing.

Unless I've completely failed to understand your post, what exactly is the issue?

Should I be complaining that the upcoming Conquistador cavalry will likely NOT have explosive lances because GW no longer has mainstream rules for Rough Riders?

Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to my 90 figures for ÂŁ70 even if I'm the only person to think so.

I'd have preferred to have variety, ANY variety, in the kit. Could be improvised weapons. There's also the spacemen helmet build that presumably aren't slave mooks, they could use some power tools or gak.

Remains to be seen if appealing to penny pinchers who are excited to be buying fewer boxes versus people who might want to build several different forces from the same kit and can't, will pay off

In other discussion, rumor is that GW are bringing back squats in the nearish future. WGA models may have helped (not suggesting that it’s even a primary reason).

I don't think WGA are as much as a blip on GW's radar

I would never compare quality or style between mantic and WGA space dorfs.

They look good together to me. They are roughly the same size and proportions, with the Forgefathers wearing bulkier armor and helmets.

Penny pincher? No, the raspberry blowing Ork doesn't make you appear any less insulting in my eyes.

I'm sure Wargames Atlantic will approve of my spending even if it doesn't meet some of your lofty ideals.

For info, I'm buying the same number of boxes of Cannon Fodder as I bought of Les Grognards but fewer than the, so far six I have planned for Space Brits.

Seeing as it appears at the moment like you are the only person who doesn't seem to like the Cannon Fodder, I think the kit will be a hit.

I think they look pretty terrible. I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't like or have no interest in the Cannon Fodder. But it's perfectly okay for different people to want different things. No reason for any to get offended by it.

I agree, the 'resculpt' Forge Fathers plastic infantry are excellent imho, about a gajillion times better than the reused body sprue from the first Warpath release. They work really well with the WA notsquats, to the point of one looks like a sealed vac suit dude (Mantic FF) vs a dude wearing light combat armor (WA).

The Goblins March Forth!
WHEN THE GOBLIN WARBAND HUNTS THE COUNTYSIDE TREMBLES…

The ancient enemy of the Free Kingdoms, the Goblin tribes are a constant threat. In normal times, the threat can be dealt with tribe by tribe by the warriors and militia of the High Queen, but recently there have been whisperings that some powerful warlord has begun to conquer and unite the tribes. Folk fear that this can only mean that War will soon stalk all the lands.

This hard plastic box set allows you to field up to 30 Goblin warriors with options for spear, bow, and a variety of nasty hand weapons. A huge number of heads and other bits creates immense variety. Also, when paired with WAACF003 GIANT SPIDERS the goblins can be converted to spider cavalry.

We can present the first batch of sculpts for the next set in our Great War range: British Infantry (1916-1918)!

This is where we are in the sculpting process. We have some more arms and another body pose to do.

These could also be useful for the pre-war period, the interwar period (VBCW anyone?), and with a bit of squinting even into WW2! (Although probably better left to our World Ablaze range!)

4 lewis guns for 5 bodies?

That appeals to me for using them in some sort of sci fi way, the bolt action rifles are too historical but the Lewis MGs can pass as all sorts of ray guns with minimal work.

Lewis Guns, gas masks, bits, these could be all sorts of post-apoc soldiers.

Remains to be seen if all the parts make it, Cannon Fodder could only fit like 6 rifles on a 5 man sprue.

that's quite a lot of heads for a 5-body sprue. it does look like there's enough to give them all brimmed helmets or pointy helmets, which would be pretty great for differentiating units.
