Fellow Dakka-ites, you'll probably be interested to know that for my communication project in university we're supposed to find a fandom and then analyze it. Of course, I've chosen Dakka Dakka as my subject.

Basically, can you give me any helping information on the little memes and slang and stuff we've got going here? Like what does Dakka Dakka actually mean (it's Ork for either ammunition or shooty-ness right?), or terms like the infamous "Space Pope", "Lash", "cheese" and stuff like that. I really appreciate it, and if there's any interest then I'll post it up here when I'm done.

Because I'm already somewhat attuned to the atmosphere here, so when I think about what to write I get all sorts of great ideas that will look great when it's all organized on paper.

Cheese = A unit, or combination of rules that have resulted in an increadibly powerfull unit. These units are typicaly seen in Win At ALL Costs (WAAC) armies, but it is considered bad form to be abusive when the players are trying to have an enjoyable evening. See also OP (over powered), or OTT (over the top)

Space Pope = refers to the spiritual leader of the Tow, and his playable unit is considered one of the worst units in the game. He is terribly expensive for a small benefit, that often actually becomes a hinderence to you, and when he dies you have a chance of your army running away.

Lash = Refers to a very powerfull ability that the Daemon Prince (DP) can have. Dual lash refers to using two DP's to lash twice, considered very Cheesy.

RAW/RAI = Rules as written / Rules as intended. Most rules are hard and fast, easy to understand, no problems. Certain rules are confussing, and people will argue endlessly that their interpritation is correct and people will often use RAW/RAI as a tool to their own means. And there are a select number of rules that absolutly can not be followed correctly because they were written so poorly they make no sense at all. With these, some people are die hard RAW and refuse to follow common sense, while most play RAI, or RAP (rules as played).

DAKKA DAKKA = Every ork agrees that more dakka is better. Dakka is loosly traslated to fire power, or shots fired. Two gun barrrels are better than one, a bigger barrel on a gun makes it a more powerfull gun. For an Ork, there can never be enough dakka.

The Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike = A joke that takes a half hour to read, and it's punchline is purpusfully not funny.
