I;m having an ethical dilemma here. What do I do with my empty sprues? I've been saving them, but I now have WAY too many.

Is there anyway I can recycle them?

Or if you have any other creative ideas, please shout them out!

Rubble is always needed, but not this much.

Some people actually get a hand-cranked meat grinder and use that to grind sprues into basing material. I've also seen it used to make struts to support foamcore buildings and the like. Also, I think Wargames Factory has a sprue recycling program, but I can't say for sure.

Recycling.

I don't have a grinder - and if I did, it would be used for grinding meat - once you use it for plastics, it's pretty much done as a meat grinder.

I thought I read somewhere that the plastic GW uses isn't recyclable.

Could be wrong... just thought I remembered that.

If you snip them into pieces , you can use them as bricks , or some sort of urban rubble / ruin pieces.
They get used up rather fast this way, so its good!

I usually put them in a grinder, put on the Song of Storms and a mustache and pretend I'm an old timey organ grinder. Then I feel bad because I don't own a monkey.

I use some for structural strength on some terrain I am making. Bricks for rubble ona building also. Many extra sprues unfortunately get trashed. I still have my neon green from my templates though....waiting for something good to use them on.

Someone have the link to the necron army built out of sprues?

I keep most of my bits on the sprues. I have them sorted into boxes by unit type. One box of genestealer sprues, one for gaunt sprues, one for monstrous creature sprues, another for warrior sprues, and the last one for empty sprues/paint/glue/blisters. I'm weird and tend to catalog my army building by dating the purchase and day I run out of my supplies (glue/paint) by painting them on the container.

Once I really get into modeling (if ever) I plan to cut up the completely empty sprues and use them as terrain material for buildings, rubble, or whatever else seems interesting. The bright green sprues from the templates can do fun things for necrons. Especially if you melt it and sort of spill it into gaps. The little square vents on the bottom of each side of the destroy bodies? There's 3 on each side and they look neat filled in with that bright necron green.

was just about to bring sprue necrons up...
curse my lazy slow fingers...

i used to keep em in a big box for whatever random use i would find for em, but that box got very small very fast...
so now i just keep a stock of cut up ones, a few plain empty ones, and trash the rest...

I made my homemade (gakky) battle wagon look much better by covering the hull with cut up sprues. Looks like a giant cobbled together monstrosity now, just like it should.
Other than that, mainly for buildings or barricades.

I save the big sprues for IG movement trays. I don't remember the link for it but it was a pretty good idea.

As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time.

I recycle them as I go. I saved them for a while when I started the hobby, but I went through my boxes and recycled them after I got back from Texas recently. Now, I basically recycle as I go. I tend to build and paint things for friends too, so I'm not likely to be short sprues if I do need them for bitz. I found that holding onto them just added the amount of crud I had around.
