I have heard one that there might be god-specific sprues but that is all that I know and I am very curious if they have started on Chaos space marines or if they are waiting in the line to be re-done.

apparently it was suppose to come out at the same time as CSM but it was delayed (this being GW I'm not surprised)

Do you know when it might be released if it will be?

Chaos space marines were supposed to come out at the same time as chaos space marines? Gee. Where are you getting this useful information?

Well, see, there were rumours about a re-release for Codex: Chaos Space Marines. but then, just when it was expected to be released something else came out instead. It was called Codex: Chaos Space marines, but was really Codex: Renegade Marines, or Codex Spiky loyalist Marines. When the actual Chaos Space Marines will get a new book remains to be seen

i'd guess it to come out earlier, in like 2 or 3 years. after DE, inquisition, necrons, nids, tau and eldar.

I would be surprised if Chaos Marines is updated before 2012.

Well it should, as it is one of the main selling points of gamesworkshop, but the number of players is decreasing in my opinion.

Do they even need a new codex? I mean "need", not "C:SM has cooler stuff than me, this is BS and I want cool stuff too!" Thumbing through it, it seems pretty reasonable even if it's not top tier. It's certainly better than the 3E holdouts.

Okay, pick up the current codex, then read CE, C:'crons, C:WH, CH. Then tell me you're in a position to complain. You at least have a fairly reasonable, above-average codex.

Gav Thorpe and Alessio? They both still work for GW, and write army books and fluff frequently.

There is no codex coming out. They already have thier lash whip, they don't need anything else.

I 100% agree with you concerning the current CSM codex,however since their are some "chaos" players who seem to like it Re: Lash/Oblit ( ),the I would say keep the current dex to represent renegades,Black Legion etc,and release a God specific/Legions codex .
After all SM have Codex Space Marines,Codex Space Wolves,Codex Blood Angels etc, couldn't Chaos have a Legions Codex to cover everything that Codex CSM didn't/dosen't?

Or Pick up a 3.0 Codex, and realize Chaos was never like they were in the abomination that the 3.5 book was.

This is coming from a Siren/Daemon-bomber as well.

Then pick up anything before Jervis' 3.0 monstrosity, and see that they were.

And quite a large group of chaos players refuse to use such a cowardly power.

Pick up the 2 realms of chaos books with their d1000 mutation tables, then you'll see!

Then pick up a Heroquest box and realize Chaos Warriors only threw 4 shield dice, then you'll see!

@ Defiler - Heroquest was in no way a precursor to Warhammer 40,000, so how is that relevant?

@ Fitzz - I see where you're coming from, absolutely, but I actually play Black Legion and don't find the current Codex satisfactory even for them. Plenty powerful, just boring and rubbish.

@Ostrakon - the 3rd edition Codexes may be in a terrible state, but at least those armies still have some options. Although, to be clear, I would never argue that Chaos Marines deserve to be updated before any of those armies. First come, first serve, that's what I say.

Anyhoo, perhaps we'd better get back on topic. This is turning into another Chaos Codex debate thread, and I admit I'm partly responsible. This'll get locked if we aren't careful.

Ok what my source said was the codex out now was gonna be called codex: renegades and the codex CSM was gonna be like 3.5 mainly focussing on the traitor legions in the Eye of terror and that each legion still had specific army lists (ie the Alpha Legion still had the cultists and everything could infiltrate but they couldn't summon daemons) however the traitor legion one was supposedly delayed and renegade was renamed CSM

Gentlemanguy, your source doesn't seem to match up with reality.

So that's like a backwards version of what Jervis said. He said at a Games Day a while ago that they would love to make a Chaos Legions codex, but it wasn't in the planning stage or anything at the time. This was probably 1-2 years ago.
