I originally heard that this was suppose to release last year but so far nothing. Anyone know whatever happened? I really liked the look of this model.

I guess they're saving it for something, who knows what that could be though.

Yes it looked impressive maybe more is being added to the sprue as one of those in a CSM army would look a bit off.

It mainly looks like a WHFB Daemon Prince at the mo.

Maybe they're redoing it after everyone made fun of the figure.

Yes that face on the first one saids

"IM BEING MAD FOR THE SAKE OF MAD LOOK AT ME DID I MENTION IM MAD!!"

Bit full on with the facial expressions on that one.

Hopefully they canned these concepts and made Power Armour segments for a new Daemon Prince as well as the Fantasy parts.

With the kits their doing right now would it be too much to hope for a properly scaled Plastic Daemon Prince??

I know that's what I'm hoping for!

So much potential not quite realized in that model...

Rumor was that the mold got dropped and broke, and since plastic molds are obscenely expensive, they didn't make a new one. Apparently the same thing happened with a Dwarf lord/banner bearer sprue.

If that is true, it has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I would be beyond amazed to learn that the mold was that expensive. It would have to be so pricey that they wouldn't recoup the losses of two molds over the entire life of the figure before a resculpt. And considering the versatility of multi-part plastic kits, that would be crazy. think how long the plastic SM commander has been out. Or plastic high elf spearmen with monkey hands.

Actually that is the rumour with all models waiting a long time for their release: Seems an old GW tradition to play rugby with the moulds.

Fact is, all 2nd wave daemon models including seekers and plague bearers are waiting for a nice release niche. And so is the Eldar jet bike, the collector's Tau crisis suit pilot and several other things. We have to wait for the GW managers to give it a go.

That's probably because it IS a WHFB Daemon Prince.

Truth is when you are making a mould for something such as this the moulds are ridiculously expensive (think $30,000 and up) however if they 'dropped' it most companies like GW have insurance against such things....My guess is there were quality control issues, or they are saving it for a while.....

I still wonder what happened to that kroot shaper, the fella with his arms back over his head, about to bring down his gun on someone, I really liked that model.

LOL they dropped the mold and it broke. What do you think they make injection molds out of glass or something? They are steel and would be extremely hard to destroy. If I were to guess the "kit" probably is not finished and they are still waiting to cut the molds until the fiscal risks of cutting them are lower. Same with the eldar jetbike the molds are probably in the computer and ready to cut but they are waiting until a new DE or Eldar codex to actually physically produce the mold and start kit production.

A mold doesn't necessarily need to shatter into a billion pieces to be unusable. Any cracks or imperfections in the mold can screw absolutely everything up.

Seriously, there are people thinking the model didn't see release yet because the mold was damaged?! And all the other models that get finished but not released for a few years must be for that reason too rather than marketing issues and timing considered by GW executives? Hilarious.

Plastic injection molding is crazy expensive. Mold makers can spend anywhere from 1-2 weeks cutting a simple mold (like a mobile phone case or computer mouse), to 2-3 months for complex ones (like the large and detailed GW tank kits). Now factor in that the salary of someone with the years of experience needed to do this, along with the risk that any mistakes mean starting the mold again from scratch. Salaries for moldmakers can start from $50k and can go much higher based on ability. GW produce some very detailed items, and I imagine they can will pull people from the higher end of that scale. If someone on that kind of money is only producing 4-10 molds per year, I'm sure you can see how costs per mold can be quite high.
There's also the fact that if a completed mold was dropped/damaged after several weeks work, it may miss its slot in the production schedule. GW may have simply decided to postpone it to keep producing molds for other ranges and keep them on track for release.

Not necessarily, just because it's metal doesn't mean it isn't brittle or prone to cracking, they certainly don't bounce. It's suprisingly common to hear of kits going out of production because moulds were accidently broken. I think this is what happened to the old Ork Battlewagon and more recently there's the rumour that Airfix broke the mould of their 1/72 TSR2 kit which is why it got such a small short lived production of a very high quality and desired model. I also recall hearing of a Star Wars toy figure that didn't go into production because moulds were accidentally broken and now I'm thinking about it, years ago there was a Doctor Who toy which used the head of Gareth Hunt from the Avengers instead of Tom Baker's head for the 4th Doctor, the reason being that the original mould was dropped and the manufacturers decided that the other head was a similar enough substitute.

Even though I agree the models is definately not as good as it could have been I'd still love to have it. It's plastic and as such very suited for conversions. The heads are not that big a problem IMO, buy some plastic Chaos Spawn and use one of those heads...
