I saw an article on Ars Technica about an interesting toy I knew nothing of...

The Nerf N-Force Marauder Long Sword, and in red. I guess Nerf has bolstered the hardness and made the thing 40 inches long. This thing looks sweet.

It comes in black, as well, which looks even more Power Sword.

NERF was ALWAYS in the business of creating LARPers. Why else would their lines have fluff about teams and such?

LoL, I'd seen these in stores and was rather impressed tbh. I didn't realize then they look just like Imperium Power Swords..ha ha ha... But for the price, I'd rather buy a Shinai or Boken. Still, I think I will have to buy one in the near future.

Don't know about larping, but a bunch of people on my floor bought a bunch of guns, and we had some fun nerf wars in the main hallway of the university at night. Worth noting that (nerf guns)+(the longest straight hallway in North America)=(Great fun)

Want more fun? Open them up and put better springs in them. That'll get you about 30+ extra feet over standard springs.

If you're just using one with the pull plunger(like the Nightfire), you can thread some rubber bands through the plunger and around the barrel for some extra distance if'n you don't feel like opening it.

I've had a couple of those for months, and one of the axes they make.

As a mild warning, the "NERF" part is almost a lie, you can really thwack someone with those swords. It is not the soft, giving material you might expect from NERF.

Yeah, the thing is much more akin to a LARP Latex weapon, but actually even somat harder than the Latex Foam used in those.

the fact that me and my 19 and 20-something year old friends were about to buy them to 'play' with shows how durable (dangerous?) they really are lolol

I just remember throwing the big yellow softballs at my friends and hitting them in the eye with sticky darts... It just takes a lot of what little gravitas these have with the big NERF! logo on the side. But still funny.

Tired of reading new rulebooks... Just wanting to play.

Well, one of my friends removed the air restrictors on his gun, and I tried to do it to one of mine, but the slide ended up breaking off. I have another (bigger) one, but I'm too lazy to mod it.

Besides, we found that, with our modifications, the accuracy suffered anyway, so it wasn't worth the increased range anyway.

I want one >< . Is it wrong I still gawk at the toy section in super markets. Other day I was staring at the mega blocks halo wars stuff with my friend. I spent all my moneys on noise marines :/ damn you noise marines.

There are a number of sites about modding Nerf weapons. Lots of fun can be had for the ambitious and slightly twisted

Personally, I think the BuzzBee weapons are the way to go. The darts travel in a shell casing allowing for magazines and the like. If you drill out the base of the casing some you can also extend the range a bit easily. They also come in more realistic shapes, like lever action psuedo Marlin 1897's or double barreled shot guns that prime when you crack them open. Neat stuff.

I actually saw and handled one of these for the first time at a party on Saturday. Craig of the D6 Generation has one. The color scheme of the red one actually closely matches a space marine chapter he made some years back. It’s definitely a lot harder than a regular nerf item, and I’d want to use some form of eye/face protection if I were fighting with them. Pretty cool, though.

The new Streamline Darts do, as well. Any Nerf weapon with CS(stands for Clip System) in the name uses the new magazined Streamlines.

My friends and I have had plenty of duels with these things at the local Wally worlds at 2 AM. To paraphrase someone from above, these hurt to get hit by. For added fun I recommend the nerf battle axes.

We bought two of these for my son at Christmas. As can be expected, the first thing he did was nail me in the crotch. And yes they are much harder than normal nerf material.

But once the rules are set, they are a ton of fun.
