I played a game against a new opponent last night. 1500 points, her Eldar vs my Marines. I won quite handily, which seemed to be a combination of a few factors:
1) She was a newer player (fantastic at painting and modeling though).
2) I have balanced my list well.
3) My dice were on fire.
I've never played a game like that dice wise. I would roll 3 sixes over six dice repeatedly. I made 14 armor saves. It was flat out ridiculous...
So my question to you is - what would you do if that happened? I have a set of GW dice and haven't done anything to them, but if I was that girl, I wouldn't be able to walk away from that game without at least a little questioning of my dice rolls...
What I did? I got called on to make another 14 3+ armor saves (for 2 guys). I only failed one (ridiculously), but she wasn't looking, so I said I failed the other one. I reverse cheated because I was worried about looking like I cheated. Anyone else ever have this situation?

I offer to let my opponent use them too. I make a careful point to mix up the colors and use the same dice for LD tests as I do for other rolls where I want high.

I had a game recently where my trygons couldn't make a 3 + save, yet when the stealers got into combat they rolled pretty much nothing but rends. Points to note
1. broodlord blowing up a Furiouso librarian dreadnought before it got to attack.
2. Vanguard vets with lightning claws charging 10 stealers and 9 dead before they go to strike...Out of 20 attacks (before hitting) I think I hit with 6 rends.
My opponent was less than thrilled, but we are good mates so he was ok about it. I'm think I'm the one that's more suspicious about my dice...

sometimes I just use the closest dice, even if they are my opponents, they never mind. Its usually not a big deal which dice whoever uses. when I roll for wounds I set them aside in a pile so my opponent can use them, sometimes they do sometimes they don't, I tend to prefer my black and blue dice over the clear ones but i always offer for others to use them and frequently just use the wounds set out by my opponent. Most of the people in my group are fairly new to the hobby and mostly just play for fun before work on monday so its usually pretty lax.

Actually, I can't say I've ever had a game where my dice did so well that I was flabberghasted. Quite the opposite. Recently, I find myself having to mentally calm myself down, due to my epic losing streak on account of my dice. I don't like to blame the dice, since I don't believe in luck or Karma, but it seems like almost every game, my opponent comments on how bad my rolls were. Although, it does seem like I get bullseyes with my scatter die quite a bit.

To answer your question, I feel that most people who play 40k don't actually understand statistics but posture as if they do.
If you are called to take 12 marine saves, you 'should' fail 4 saves. I'm not calling you out or targeting you OP, just an easy example. I also realize you demonstrate knowledge of the basic stats and the chasm between what you "should" have rolled, and what you did.
Unless there is a grossly wide, and consistent gap between statistical probability and numbers generated, I won't say anything.
Stats only work over obscenely long samples, and even the dice generated in a 1v1 game of 40k over two to three hours aren't enough to demonstrate the law of averages.
So unless I see something like 60 6's in a row, passing 14 armor saves with marines is ok. The other way to look at it is, every Marine armor save die has a 66% chance to come up a success. It may not happen all the time (Which it doesn't), but it's not hard to believe it does happen some of the time. (The small chance you do have to nail 13 armor saves.)

Right, but the limited sample presented during the course of a game is what can make a lucky run stand out, and the real issue is that most players have heard anecdotes of cheaters and their loaded dice, which can make a stretch where you can't fail a roll to save your life feel awkward.

I have a few bricks worth of dice in a case and I use the same handful of them until I get a really good roll, then I grab another handful and throw the previous ones back in. Basically shuffling your dice after good rolls is an easy way to dismiss suspicion.

Luck like that never lasts. Enjoy it while you can, and suck it up when it doesn't play out for you in other games.
Just because she was a girl doesn't bode well to give her anything. Condesinding sucks, and you should just crush them when the opportunity presents itself.
I recommend that when this happens, roll with it and don't be a jerk about it, but don't give anything, either. Its a game and there is a winner and a loser, thats it. Sucks to be on the losing end, but so what.
It happens to everyone, and that just sounded like it was your day.
Good one for you.

Well um.... I had a problem my first fantasy tournament. I was playing Chaos Daemons, it was a rather rounded army in terms of its focus on Magic/shooting/fighting.
My bloodletters whiffed killing only 2 goblins in a turn. HALF of all leadership (Daemonic instability tests) were 11 or box cars (meaning my army goes POOF). Absolutely terrible.
On the other hand, my flamers (which shoot random amount of shots) were shooting far above average. And my spells would not fail.
Crazy dice.

Whenever a squad ends up doing very badly in the dice rolls, I pick up its sergeant and yell at it a bit, then I add a 'demerit point' to his bottom. Surprisingly, it works. Recently, they couldn't do feth to some Killa Kans, so I gave them a demerit point, and now they just defeated 3 killa kans with only 2 casualties.
If they do good, then I cheer.

Like most have already said, I'd offer the opponent the opportunity to use my dice or vice versa. Later (if these dice rolls were really consistent) I'd probably swap dice.
You did the right thing though, mate. It's not often that you'll get a gamer who reverse cheats, but it was awfully nice of you. Good on ya', champ.

Well, it`s even weirder with me. In LotR i fluff every roll all the time, but when i`m playing WH or 40k i roll awesome. Once, a wraithlord charged my captain with relic blade, i hit with all my attacks and roll 3 . It wasn`t even funny. And my bolters were on fire too. I rolled 15 to hits, and 13 hit! Luckely, I rolled to wound behind a building, so i convinced him that just 4 wounded. All i lost that battle was a rhino and two marines, plus a terminator.
The best (or worst, suite yourself) story is when my 12 Dark Elf spearguys get charged by a Stegadon with a skink hero, he kills one, I hit back and get two hits, then re-roll for hate, and get 11 hits, six wounds (on the crew), he fail stubborn leadership test, run away 4 inches, my spearmen cath him with 5 inches. Next turn they charge a saurus block in the flank. I bought my friend a soda after that game; he deserved it.
Cheers!

I also just offer to let my opponent use my dice on the rare occasion where I run hot. I also always keep my rolling consistent. My personal voodoo is I use the dice that hit to also roll to wound as a 'reward' for them hitting. This has sometimes resulted in multiple 6's. When that happens that is when I offer up my dice for opponents use, heh.

Pfff the dices... at least i can see that i'm not the only one who was messed for bad rolls... in my case, good rolls came when i didn't needed it such as leadership... or hitting (in 40k i had bad luck sometimes, in fantasy was EPIC FAIL everytime) such that time against dwarfes... how can you explain to fail 12/13 rolls?, in the other side (maybe one of my most epic ones ) i have been charged by plague bearers to my guardsmen, only to annihilate them at bayonet stabs or that time that saved all the overheating rolls with my guardsmen... its only an opposing between luck and possibility...
to answer to the question that opens the post, i must tell that depends of my opponent, i knew most of them and i know how they can react, and how are they relationship to me, and how cheating they can be, i prefer to play to few honest ones than some people that i don't know (as can happen in a tournament) that can cheat shamelessly or be a bad player (I'm talking about attitude, not "gaming") in the case that tells Andruin in the opening post, its logical (or at least that's what it seems to me) the reverse cheating that he explains, it's not a good idea to embarrass a new player for a excesive dose of luck... i can tell that in similar cases i felt pity...

Serious note, Our gaming group has an almost humourus degree of superstition regarding our dicerolls. Our Eldar player for example, when shooting will roll his to hit dice in a big bulk, rerolling any failures that he can (due to twinlinking etc). Any that still fail are put back in the dice bag and new ones are sent in as replacements for the failuers. Another player keeps his dice in his pocket untill roll time. Of course there is the misc "blowing on dice" and even some "improper rubbing for luck" but like what happened with the OP, we have a designated "Tactical Marine Armor Save"-Taker. Sadly, I don't get that whole "luck" thing... I worship Tzeentch, so basically I should not judge the mind of my god, nor try to know it. I just accept that Tzeentch has a place for me in his grand scheme, and I am happy in the part I have to play.
