The Warriors of Chaos codex, has a magic item called the Book of Secrets (page 115).
It lets the owner know and cast one spell from either the lore of shadow, lore of fire, or the lore of Death, and lets him produce 1 casting dice?

I think the Book of Secrets is a great item. I never understood why Warriors of Chaos players almost never take it. It gives you +1 Power Dice, +1 Spell (from another Lore) and it isn't even an Arcane Item. The Miscast roll is a disadvantage, but since every Warriors of Chaos army has the Infernal Puppet, it shouldn't be too big of a risk.

I used to take it long ago, but recently I find myself just unable to spare the points.
The extra dispel dice can be handy, and sending him rocketting out of a unit at enemy chariots to smash them with a greatweapon, or to surprise a skirmisher or warmachine unit with the flying character is pretty handy [I always exclusively choose lore of shadow, for steed of shadows].
Ah, I remember now why I don't take it: If that's your only magic-user, they'll just dispel it. Even if it's not, they can often save a dispel die just to make sure they have a shot at dispelling your steed. He really needs to be in addition to other magic users, so they can use up the enemy dispel dice, giving him freedom to act.

It is usually given to:
Tzeentch sorcerer level 2
MOT
Eye of Tzeentch
Disc of tzeentch
Book of secrets (fire to get fireball)
Blood curdling roar
Chaos armour
Then from at least turn 2 you are behind the enemy line, flying, marchblocking, dropping a flickering fire with your tzeentch casing bonus, then the fireball spell, then a blood curdling roar (at same or different units as you choose).
All with a 3+ ward save vs shooting and magical missiles and a 4+ armour save.
Or take a aspiring hero with all of above (minus level 2) and take the enchanted shield for a 2+ armour save, and a flail to kill stuff in combat.

My tizz sorc on disc is absoultly amazing. i usually run him with a MoT, disc, roar, golden eye and a book of secrets as well, and often i have a lvl 2 nurgle sorc with an infernal puppet backing him up. that build is generally a game breaker and hes destroyed more then his points in every game i use him. i dont even roll for the lore on the book, i just default to fireball. extremly useful item. i honestly think that the book pof secrets, infernal puppet and golden eye are near mandatory for any magic casting chaos army.

I will have to consider this, he sounds like such a trouble maker!

I wonder if a Slaanesh sorcerer on a steed would be as good? Not AS maneuverable but still 20" march behind enemies.

i like the tizz... becuase you A: get the ward save, B: get +1 to cast spells, and C: that flying disc makes avoiding enemies easy...just fly over them!. plus Tz spells are good at dealing damage and nuking things, vrs slannesh wich is more of a buff/debuff magic range. running both and working them together though....that could be a sick combo.
