So Last week I was a bit bored and have been missing playing my wildy unpredictable IG army (lets face it I either owned face or was slaughtered outright zero gray area) I decided to give them another go and being in the mood for something a bit different I figured I would start something a bit different.

I am still up in the air as far as the fluff goes so any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

I am going with an Oceanic Yellow for all the vehicles

Rust Brown for most Metals

Paynes Grey for the Uniforms (In the spirit of WWII Naval Uniforms)

Patent Leather Boots.

I am modeling the bases to look like they were in the midst of unloading on a dock, and the hawk turqouise I feel adds the suggestion of water underneath the dock with out being cheesy and adding water fx etc....

So far I am planning on one or two more troop choices, a Valk and maybe two more sentinals Im trying to keep it around 1000-1500 pts no more and keep it fluffy but fun to play so any suggestions in the naval pirate them would be great....

No Peg Legs, Hooks, Parrots, Striped Shirts, Catachans w/ bandanas and tattoos etc.....I am really going to a clean futuristic space pirate look......Although I may model an iron hand straken as Steve Zissou...haha.

Anyways on to the pictures Please be gentle with your critisicms I only started this on Wednesday

Putting together the Command Squad (this may change eventually but I feel looks okay for now)

First Squad of Vets Fairly Simple, although I love the Rat and Shot up Salted Pork 'sandbags' adds to the pirate feel without being ridiculous...Should be able to get these painted this week and start work on the second squad.

Painting of the command squad (be gentle)

An Objective Marker... Pirates Love Rum and Gold and reinforces my theme subtly....

Testing the Yellow paint scheme for the vehicles and I couldnt be happier with the results...some of the detail was lost in the pictures But I am quite happy still need to add a few details but for the most part it is complete....

Look forward to hearing some feedback and suggestions!

I like it.

Have you thought of shaving down the long flowing hair on some of the heads? Maybe throw in some bald heads or shorter chopped hair jobs, just to mix it up a bit.

I love the yellow on the walker. I think that works very well with your theme.

Nicely painted, but the theme doesn't do anything for me. I will hold total judgement till I see the army completed.

Pirate themed? Doesn't really look it? Looks just chaos. If you want pirate go with brighter colours and pick up a box of WHFB Empire Milita they got tons of cool pirate type btiz and such.

Looked at miltia per the above not interested in doing the peg leg style and going the more militant space pirate style.....all my armys no matter what tend to stink of chaos hahaha eh what can you do....this may be the brightest army Ive ever painted...

I like most of the models, the captain in the cape is especially good. However, the dark eldar heads...not really digging them. Having a hard time believing they are humans.

Ahh my bad then, got confused with the cadian bodies/elf heads. In that case it makes perfect sense then, lol.

I love that sentinel! Do you mind if I ask how you got the awesome rusty look? I'd love a little walk through of your paint scheme if it's not too much to ask...

Don't like the dark elf heads. The rest is okay, but not quite right. Right now, it doesn't really seem to have a theme. All I can see is cadians with unfitting (theme-wise) heads. The only two I like are the commander and the standard bearer. The rest is just meh.

It's being run by people with short term vision and enough greed to extinguish a sun.

Perhaps they're the C'tan.

Fantastic, thank you! I'll definitely try it out on the sent I'm soon to be painting up. One thing to note though - the feet look a little odd - is it too late to try to straighten them up? Otherwise that is one fantastic sentinel

Unfortunatley I got ahead of my modeling skills and tried to push them in like it was crushing the wood......to make a long story short....it didnt work. Ill be trying a different technique with the other two sentinals.....

In regards to no theme it is a wip with a fairly vague theme at best and any suggestions are much appreciated to each his own on the heads I quite like the sculpts and think they work quite nice with the IG bodies and after my last IG army I am quite sick of the cadian helmets haha.....

P.S. Forfgot to add I do two - three coats of a product called rustall on the miniature www.rustall.com absolutley fantastic stuff however play around on a test model first as it tends to strip off the gw paint if brushed on to hard....

IMO they need to be more piratey, they would look great as just 'nilla renegades though.

Great job love the hoe you painted the Sentinal.

Great painting but I´m a bit bothered with the blue rimmed bases , but maybe U have a plan ...

Ah , and U can use the fantasy chaos marauder head´s , I will use them on my veterans when I ever get the time for IG ... just an idea ...

Keep it up

They look good so far. I do also like the sentinel, I too have used the sponge method. You did it quite well. It is unusually hard to achieve good results.

I think they're great. Name them "corsair theme IG" and all the whining about dark elves heads will go away

Anyway ANY original idea is better than the same boring Cadians/Catachans/Death korps. Keep up the good work.

Hey, where did you get the scaley cloak for the Captain, I could use somthing like that for my Salamanders...
apart from that, I do like the models but the paint scheme could probably be a bit more piratey.

You know, when I saw the models unpainted, I thought "This is going to look terrible"

Now that I have seen them painted, I actually really like them. I was worried about the heads being out of place, but you've actually pulled it off quite well.

Well done.

You know, I saw the thread and thought it was an awsome idea, but was a little afraid on how it would turn out. I think you have a solid paint job down, a killer concept, and a great job modeling! Cheers all around I think your only killer is the pics atm aren't the best but thats an easy fix.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
