Current Dark Eldar player, will look at new/updated models and codex only
Current DE player, will to scrap current army and get new stuff
Might read codex, that's it
Don't care
Dark Eldar suck ass, why is GW bothering to update them?

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

For the sake of discussion, let's assume that the DE imminent release rumors are fact, that they are coming out with a new codex and entirely new model line in August. What's the Dakka community's interest level in this release?

Myself, I've always liked the idea of the Dark Eldar: the twisted, corrupted evil shadows of the self-righteous Eldar. Further, I love how they play, being the ultimate glass cannon army of speed; precise, high-strength weaponry; and skilled/drug-enhanced melee combat. But the models have always been terri-bad and it's real hard to commit hundreds of dollars and hundreds of hours to an army that you will be annoyed to put out on the table. But with the model line being redone, DE has shot to the top of my interest level and could even surpass orks as my favorite depending on how they turn out.

What are other people's thoughts?

As mentioned elsewhere have just aquired a DE army that is mostly painted, with a few models in the primed stage.

Since the main reason was to offer another, non-MEQ alternative at our newly formed club.
It is not that important if the models are not the sexy new upgrades we all hope for.

Don't want to spend any more cash on them apart from one or two supplemenatry units if I can get them at a good price. Have too much else to sort out for one thing.

Will probably have to get the codex though. Unless a lot of my current units are made obsolete. In which case will continue with the Ancient Book of Dark Eldar

ps voted the first option as that seems most suitable option.

Craftworld eldar player here.

Don't play DE, but will read the codex to see where they fit fluff wise and for an idea of how their units will work.

Will not collect them or play them personally. Just like I won't with CSM, Daemons, Tyranids, Orks, Tau, SoB, BT, DA, BA, or SW.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I will buy the new codex, and new units, then bitch and moan that I waited 12 years, just to get shafted in one way or another...

Isn't this just wonderful? How can anyone not be excited? Now we can achieve new heights in meticulousness and scale in grading the band wagon jumpers. We can score people based on how long they've owned the models, whether they're painted, according to which set of rumors they bought in during, and the list just goes on and on.

Just imagine, a ten year Dark Eldar veteran being able to scoff at a Dark Eldar player who's played for a mere three years. Or the sound of the eye rolling alone when the first Eldar player says that they're switching codices because the Dark Eldar codex better suits their craftworld's fluff.

That will be the true gift from GW to their players when they release the new codex. Everything else will pale by comparison.

They are one of the few "definite gets" that could be released for me. It is just an expansion of my love/hate for Eldar to be honest. Its not a fanboy thing I just like the playstyle of Eldar more than any other army.

Oh wow. I didnt think it got worse than Marine codex hopping (especially with homebrew chapters )

I started playing in 2nd ed, a few months before 3rd ed came out. I really liked the ideas behind the Dark Eldar, much of which came from the 2nd ed Eldar codex.

When my freinds all bought the 3rd ed boxed sets, I inherited all the DE warriors- so I had a good sized foot horde, and then got to add models as they were released.

They've been collecting dust for a long while now, as I grew bored with them in 2003 or 2004. Im hoping the codex will make them fun to play again. And some fresh models would be nice, might even have me break my 5 year GW boycott

Will get into DE if the models released are made nicely.

Will enjoy killing the new codex. One of our regular players is a DE lass. Do hope slaves stay, painting up that special model only to watch it get carted off (later to be returned but with a dedication arena buddy proposed) is immensely fun.

As an old DE player, since 2003, when the codex update came out,
I'll definitely play DE according to the new codex.
But only if the new 'dex is reasonable.

Personnally when I heard DE were very possibly being re released my first thought was - Meh.

I love Dark Elves in fantasy but think they are a little silly in 40K although I can't think of a good reason why just a feeling.

On the other hand it means less people playing marines so I will actually get to play against xenos. Looking forward to seeing how many hitch up the bandwagon

The original codex is 12 YEARS OLD, with a minimal update about 8-9 years ago. There is no "bandwagon" to jump on; it's been too niche for years. I suspect the vast majority of DE players will be of the new variety, so really, the "bandwagon" effect won't be any more than any other new codex/model release except that, because of the huge gap between releases, it's essentially brand new. I, for one, hope they do take off, as any army that isn't Marines that sells well encourages GW to make more non-Marine stuff. I don't hate Marines and realize they are GW's flagship, but it's nice to see variety, if only for modeling and non-repetitive gameplay.

I only have a hand full of DE, but a friend of mine has a boat load them. I’m hoping they’ll update the DE the same way they did the nids (new weapons, new units, new models, ect…) instead of just re-pointing them. If that’s the case I may start collecting some more myself.

friend of mine that ive played against since I started this game use to do DE. He stopped after the codex wasnt updated when it should have been. I dont know that he would buy the new codex, as he doesnt have the minis anymore. But yea, they are far over due an update, and id love to see them played. They always gave my marines a run for their money, and id love to face them with my orks.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

The category that you don't really have is this:

Current DE player undecided about how they will react to a new codex and models.

Fair enough. I had intended the third option to be, essentially, the "wait and see" approach, but I can see where that gap exists.
